Nadia knew what I meant, and she held my hand without fuss as we left school together.
Back in the hotel room, Nadia was even more proactive than usual.
She did her best to accommodate me in bed and did it with me three times that night. I was completely squeezed dry by her.
After our vigorous love-making, Nadia laid in my arms, as obedient as a little kitten. “Thank you, Darling. I know you got Roman White to perform here for me.”
“Are you happy?”
“Of course I am, but…” Something crossed Nadia’s mind as she suddenly seemed a little gloomy. “The thought of going home immediately when semester break starts is making me a little unhappy.”
“Stop worrying about that. It’s only going to be two short months.” I kissed Nadia on the forehead.
“Will you miss me during break?” Nadia looked at me lovingly with her beautiful, wide eyes.
“Of course I will.”
“You have to think of me regularly, and you’re not allowed to flirt with other women,” Nadia said fiercely.
“Got it. Don’t worry, I promise I will…” I gave a vague answer.
“By the way, my parents have bought me tickets to go home. I’ll be leaving for my hometown tomorrow.”
“I’ll be there to see you off.”
“Let’s get some sleep…”
“Alright.”
Nadia must have been too tired. It was not long before she fell asleep in my arms, snoring in a low voice.
…
I saw Nadia to the bus stop the next day.
After that, I returned to Waterfront Paradise.
My gut told me that Montana might be home. If she was planning to return home during the break, she would need to come back to pack.
As I had expected, Montana was in the middle of packing when I got home.
A look of panic flashed across her eyes when she saw me. She quickly put her things down and said hesitantly to me, “We need to talk, Freddie.”
“Are you planning to break up with me?” I smiled bitterly.
I knew that something was wrong when Montana did not return home for such a long time.
“No, it’s not that.” Montana shook her head.
“What do you want to talk to me about?”
“Actually, I’m not sure what I want to say to you, but I do know how you feel about me, and I do like you back. However, my family has given me too much trauma, and I feel conflicted. I’m not brave enough to accept you. Can you give me some time? Just this semester break will be enough. Once the break is over, I’ll come to you with my decision.”
“Alright. That’s okay.”
Montana’s words reminded me that she had been hurt before.
Her family had caused her to fear relationships and marriages. She was quite resistant to this.
We used to be able to chat and laugh freely back when we were still roommates.
However, once we begin to cross a certain barrier, she got scared… She started to avoid me.
I knew this was not how she wanted things to be. This was how she was dealing with things as someone who had been hurt. At this thought, I did not continue the topic but asked, “When are you going home?”
“My ticket is for five in the evening today.”
“Let’s have a meal together, and I’ll see you off after that.”
“Alright.”
Montana did not object to this.
We had lunch together in the afternoon, and I saw her off later in the evening.
…
I began to feel quite melancholy after Montana left.
It was because I knew that when she returned, she might choose to leave me for real.
Montana was a good person. She did not find me off-putting because I was poor. Even though she was quite careless and silly at times, she was still the first girl who took my heart.
It did not matter if she would end up not wanting to be with me. I would still wish for her to find herself a good husband.
I went to school after seeing Montana off, seeing many students pulling their luggage along, chatting and laughing on their way off.
This was the saddest time for me every year.
Even though my classmates bullied me at school, everyone lived in the hostels and ate at the same canteen. It made me feel like I was no different than they were, just a bit poorer.
I felt especially sad during the holidays.
Everyone had a home to return to, while I did not. I was an orphan.
I would find a restaurant every semester to work hard at, really really hard.
It was because I had to earn my school fees for the next semester. Also, it was only through work that I would not have too much time to wallow in my sadness.
However, it was different this year. I had inherited a fortune and now had financial freedom.
Despite that, no matter how much money I had, it was impossible to fill the loneliness in my heart.
I suddenly had thought. I really wanted to have a home.
A safe place where I could rest when I was tired and fatigued.
The thought of Layla flashed across my mind.
Even though we were in a contract marriage, I wanted far more than what she did.
Her body was not the only thing I desired. I wanted her to have my child, to build a family with me. I wanted to ‘conquer’ her completely.
I did not want her to only be with me because of some bullshit contract.
At this point, I made the decision to buy a villa when I had the time and turn it into our home.
It was only through spending time together often that I would have the opportunity to change her impression of me. This would allow me the chance to completely ‘conquer’ her.
I took out my phone at this thought and prepared to search for property for sale.
However, my phone suddenly rang. The call was from Chris.
“Where are you, Freddie?” Chris asked.
“I’m outside school. What’s up?”
“Have you gotten the news? Stamen Group has informed us to assemble for training on the first of August.”
“First of August?” I went blank momentarily. “There’s still half a month to go.”
“Yeah, which is why I’m hesitating if I should make a trip back to my hometown.”
“Just go home if you want to. There’s no need to worry about me.”
I knew Chris was trying to spare my feelings. He would always accompany me at school for a while before returning home, and there had been times when he would even work part-time alongside me.
“I think I’d better forget about it. It’s only half a month. It would be quite tiring to rush back.”
“By the way, do you need to attend the training too? Weren’t you already hired?”
“I’m not required to, but Natasha has to go, so I thought I’d join her. I have nothing to do at school if I stay here, anyway,” said Chris.
“Alright. It’s up to you.”
“By the way, Freddie, since there’s nothing much left to do, why not join me for a drink at the bar tonight? It’s the holidays. We should take the time to relax.”
“The bar?”
I was hesitant. “Won’t it be really noisy?”
“If you find it noisy, we can go to a live house instead. A new one just opened up near school, and it’s quite popular. You can enjoy a drink there and watch the band play,” said Chris.
“Sounds good.”
“Let’s meet in front of the school gate at eight tonight.”
…
I waited for Chris outside the school gate at eight.
When I saw him coming alone, I was curious. “It’s just the two of us?”
“Of course not. There’s Natasha too. She’s waiting for us at the live house.”
“f**k, isn’t this terrible of you? You’re taking me there to be a third wheel?” I was quite exasperated.
“We wouldn’t do that to you. Natasha is bringing along her roommate. I’ve told you about her before. Her name is Tara Thompson. I wanted to introduce her to you as a potential girlfriend, but you ended up in a relationship with Nadia, so I had to forget about it.”
“Oh, her.” I had a vague impression of her. She was pretty and had a nice body, but she had quite a cold personality and was a little arrogant. She seemed difficult to get to know. “Alright. Let’s go.”
…
It was more than ten minutes later when we finally arrived at the live house near the school.
Natasha and Tara were already waiting there when we arrived.
They waved us over when they spotted us.
Natasha began to introduce us after Chris and I took our seats.
It was my first time meeting Tara, so I extended my hand to shake hers.
However, she ignored my goodwill and did not extend her hand. She even grumbled in a whisper to Natasha, “Natasha, is this the Freddie you were planning to introduce me to? Isn’t he too ordinary? Next time, try not to push someone like this at me. I’m not a garbage dump.”
