Chapter 71

Billy’s threat made me laugh. “Fire me? Those are pretty big words. I’ll give you a chance to do it right now…” I took Billy’s phone from him. After using his facial identification to unlock it, I searched through his contacts and found the number of the general manager of Stamen Real Estate, Simon Landry. “Didn’t you want to get me fired? Come on, let’s see how powerful you are.” I called the number and placed the phone near Billy’s lips. “You will regret this.” The call was picked up right after Billy said this. Simon’s lazy voice could be heard from the other end. “Anything the matter, Billy?” A smile immediately appeared on Billy’s face when he heard Simon’s voice. He chuckled and said, “Mr. Landry, I’m calling to check if you’ve received the premium tea leaves I sent over this morning. If you like them, just let me know, and I’ll get more for you.” “I’ve received them. They were not bad. You’re not calling me just because of this small matter, are you?” “Of course not. I have a little issue I might have to trouble you with. There’s an ignorant intern from your group that has offended me.” “Intern? That won’t be any trouble. How about this, just give me his name and I’ll fire him to make you feel better,” Simon said it very casually, as if it was nothing much to him. “That’s great. His name is Freddie, and he’s a student from Southside National University.” Billy lifted his head to look at me after saying this. There was a delighted look on his face. “Alright. Easy-peasy. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be hanging up now,” said Simon. I quickly took the phone from Billy when I saw he was about to hang up. I sniggered as I said, “You’re Simon Landry, right? Are you the one who’s going to fire me?” “Who are you?” Simon’s unhappy voice could be heard from the other end. “I’m Freddie, of course. I’m the intern you were about to fire.” “Oh, it’s you. How dare a mere intern talk to me? Pass the phone back to Billy. Who the f**k do you think you are?!” “Hoho, I’d like to advise you to be nicer with your words, or you might end up regretting it,” I chuckled and said. “You’re just a f*****g intern. I can scream at you if I want to. And not only do I want to scream at you, but I’m also going to get you fired,” Simon said without fear. “Alright, go ahead if you want to fire me, but before you do that, I’d advise you to find out if Vincent Quinn would agree to it.” “You know Mr. Quinn?” There was some hesitation in Simon’s voice. I did not answer him. I simply placed the phone back by Billy’s mouth. “What else do you have to say? Just say it.” “Remember, you asked me to say it!” Billy was taken aback, but later shouted through the phone. “Save me, Mr. Landry. I’ve been kidn*pped by this bastard. I’m at my house now. Save me!!!” His sudden action gave Lorne a scare. He moved forward to try to stop Billy. However, I pulled him back. “It’s fine. Just let him shout.” … Billy’s attitude completely changed after he managed to get help. He said with delight, “You bastard. You’re still too young to be going up against me. The police will be coming here soon after Mr. Landry calls them. You should make a run for it now if you don’t want to end up in jail.” Billy said this with great relish. However, his words did not scare me. There was a high possibility that Simon would check in with Vincent after my words. If Simon did that, it would be easy to guess that he would not continue with what Billy imagined he would do. However, Billy’s words had frightened Yvette, who was at the side. She said anxiously, “Freddie, how are you going to explain this when the police arrive and find them tied up? I think you should make a run for it now. I’ll say this was my doing when the police are here. They are my sister and brother-in-law, after all. They won’t do anything to me.” “That’s not necessary. I’ll be fine,” I replied confidently. With that, I sat in my seat once more and crossed my legs. “Tell me what exactly you were planning to do by making Yvette stay here?” “If I were you, I would make a run for it, you bastard.” “Ho, I see you haven’t learned your lesson. Since you think you still have a chance, we’ll just wait together and see if Simon will help you in the end.” I got Lorne to pour me a cup of coffee. I took my time to enjoy the fragrant coffee while waiting for Simon to show up. … Simon was pretty quick. It took him only twenty minutes. The sound of someone arriving outside the villa could be heard. Billy clearly heard it, looking extremely excited. “You’re done for, you bastard. Mr. Landry has brought help to save me. It’s your funeral today! You’re done for, ahahahaha!” Billy began to laugh maniacally. Yvette looked quite anxious when she heard this. However, I ignored him and continued crossing my legs with a carefree expression on my face. The door was opened a few seconds later. Simon came rushing in with a head full of sweat. Billy shouted happily at him when he saw Simon. “Mr. Landry. Here, I’m over here. Come save me.” However, Simon came walking straight toward me, as if he did not notice Billy at all. When he was a few feet away from him, he kneeled on the ground with a slam and said with tears flowing down his face, “I’m so sorry, Mr. Chairman. I was blind to not have known who you were and offend you. Please do not hold it against me. Please forgive me!” Simon’s action shocked everyone. Billy and Susan, who looked smug before, dropped their jaws in astonishment. One could stuff an entire egg in their mouths. “Mr. Landry, w-what did you call him?” Billy looked fearful when he asked this. “How dare you ask such a question? It’s all because of you that I offended Mr. Lang, you son of a bitch.” Mr. Landry stood up and began beating Billy up. When Billy was down, Mr. Landry kneeled on the ground once again and said to me earnestly, “Mr. Chairman, please forgive me on the account that this is my first time making this mistake. I did not mean it.” Simon had acted so arrogantly before, but now, he was kneeling on the ground, extremely humbled. I knew that he was not the most important person to take care of today, so I waved him off and said, “It’s not that I won’t forgive you, but you are aware that Billy offended me. You do understand what needs to be done, don’t you?” A look of delight appeared on Simon’s face as he quickly said, “I do. I know what to do.” With that, he stood up and began beating Billy again. He beat him and screamed at him at the same time, “You son of a b***h, how dare a useless thing like you offend the chairman? Are you tired of living? Also, don’t think I have no idea about the dirty things you’ve done. You will never again touch any Stamen Real Estate projects from today onward. Also, I will work with all the local developers to blacklist you!” “Blacklist?” Billy began to tremble when he heard this. He finally understood how serious the situation was as he knelt on the ground and kept bowing. “Mr. Landry, don’t blacklist me, please don’t blacklist me, I beg of you.” “What f*****g use is there for you to beg me for anything?” Simon kicked him to the ground once more. “You were left with nowhere to go the moment you offended our chairman.” Billy realized who he should be begging when he heard this. He crawled to my feet and sobbed as he said, “I’m sorry, Mr. Chairman, it was all my fault. Please give me another chance.” I looked at how pathetic he looked right now. I knew that I had gotten the result I wanted, so I waved Simon away, gesturing for him to leave. Simon left when he saw this. As for me, I kicked Billy aside. I looked both him and Susan up and down for a while before I asked with a smile, “Now, can you tell me what your intentions for Yvette were?” “I…” There was hesitation on Susan’s face. She did not answer me. Instead, she asked the question, “Freddie, are you really the chairman of Stamen Bank?” “Hoho, is there a need for me to answer you?” I sneered at Susan. “All you need to know is that who I am is enough to decide whether you’re going to heaven or hell. “Give me the answer I’m looking for, and I’ll consider letting him off.”
