Chapter 73

The voice was Yvette’s. She had probably calmed herself down and was on the way downstairs. However, she did not expect to hear such shameless words coming from Susan the moment she walked downstairs. Yvette quickly ran down the stairs and gave Susan a vicious slap. “How shameless can you be, Susan? Do you even hear what you’re saying?” “I know you like the chairman, Yvette. If you can’t bring yourself to say it, let me say it for you. Is that so wrong? It’s just marrying the daughter of the family. It doesn’t matter whether it’s just you or both of us. With me by your side, I can even help you with the things you can’t manage.” “Enough!!!” I stopped Susan from continuing. This woman was getting more and more out of hand. I turned to Yvette. “Since you’re here, I’ll let you decide what you want to do with them.” “I’m so disappointed in the both of them. I never want to see them ever again.” “What?” Susan and Billy were scared silly by her words. They quickly kneeled in front of me. “Don’t kill us, Mr. Chairman. We don’t deserve death. We don’t deserve death for this!” “That’s right, please let us off!” They kowtowed on the floor continuously while saying this. “Kill them?” Yvette realized what she had just said when she heard their begging. She anxiously tried to explain herself. “Don’t misunderstand me, Freddie. I have no intention of making them die. Just help me chase them away.” “Alright.” I nodded and looked at the both of them by my feet. “You heard that too, right? Yvette is very kind-hearted and has decided to let you off. Get out of this city and go as far away as you can from today onward. If I ever see the both of you again, there will be no mercy!” I gave Lorne a look after finishing what I had to say. Lorne understood the look and cut the rope binding them with a dagger. “Thank you for not killing me! Thank you for not killing me!” Billy kowtowed twice to me in great relief and ran away anxiously. Susan hesitated momentarily after she was released. She then knelt on the ground with a slam. However, this time, she knelt in front of Yvette. Before she said a word, she viciously slapped herself a few times. After more than ten slaps, she said with a pitiful look on her face, “Yvette, I was blinded by my greed, and I’ve done so much wrong. I was wrong, I know I was. Please beg for mercy from the chairman on account that we’re sisters. Don’t make me flee from here!” “No, you have to leave.” Yvette was thoroughly heartbroken, and there was a determined look on her face. “Please help me, Yvette. If I really leave, our parents would definitely be sad that they wouldn’t be able to see me anymore. You need to help me for their sake. Don’t worry, I promise to change from today onward. I really know I’m wrong.” “No.” Yvette was still rejecting her, but the determination on her face faltered slightly. Susan continued to convince her when she noticed this. “Just help me, please, Yvette. I will always give in to you from now on, and I’ll make sure to find myself an honest job. I promise not to create any more trouble in the future. It’s a good thing to be able to recognize our mistakes and change for the better. I know I’ve gone down the wrong path. Please give me a chance to make amends for that.” She suddenly began sobbing at this point. Yvette was even more hesitant after watching Susan cry. They were sisters, after all. “Freddie, can we let my sister stay?” “It’s up to you,” I shrugged nonchalantly. I was just here to help resolve her troubles. It did not matter what she chose to do. I would support her. “Well then, let’s let her go. Even though she did make a huge mistake, punishment is still required. Can you get her a job, Freddie? A job that’s not easy or fun.” “A job?” I thought about this. “Let’s get her a job at Stamen Group.” “Stamen Group?” Yvette was shocked. “Is that really a punishment?” Susan was afraid I would go back on my word, so she quickly kneeled on the ground to thank me. “Thank you, Mr. Chairman! Thank you, Mr. Chairman!” “There’s no need to thank me yet. I haven’t told you what the job is.” I smiled nastily. “Aren’t I going to work at Stamen Group?” Susan questioned. “You are, but your job will be to clean the bathrooms…” I had punished Lindy once before by sentencing her to clean the bathrooms, but I had not gone through with it in the end. However, Susan was a vile and malicious woman. I had to give her a strict punishment, so I decided to make her clean the bathrooms. Susan’s face fell when she heard what her job would be. She opened her mouth, wanting to continue asking for mercy. However, she closed it and awkwardly swallowed her words after I gave her a vicious glare. I smiled contently and patted her shoulder to say, “Report for work tomorrow at Stamen Group. Don’t you even dare think about coming up with any tricks, or you’ll end up in a situation worse than this one.” After making all the necessary arrangements, I waved Yvette and Lorne over to me, and we left the villa together. … Yvette kept looking at me on the way back, sizing me up repeatedly. I knew she was curious about something, so I said, “Just me ask anything you’d like to know. Don’t keep it to yourself.” “Are you really the chairman of Stamen Group?” Yvette looked at me in disbelief. “I am. Otherwise, why would that Simon and your brother-in-law be so afraid of me?” I chuckled as I said. “I’m still in disbelief. When I saved you back then, you were dressed like a beggar.” “Life is unpredictable. We should always be kind and never bully others because you never know what sort of person they might become many years later, just like me.” “Alright. I won’t bully anyone.” Yvette nodded earnestly. “By the way, how do you feel after finding out who I really am?” I turned to look at Yvette. I was quite worried that she might end up like Macy, trying to seduce me with everything she had after finding out who I was. “How do I feel?” Yvette gave it some thought before replying, “The biggest thing is the shock…” “Other than that?” “That’s it,” Yvette replied naturally. “Don’t you want to get into my good books, or do what your sister did and try to sleep with me to become my woman?” “I am already your woman,” Yvette said, slightly puzzled. “I said to you before when you helped save my father that I was your mistress from then onward. Why would I put in so much effort to get into your good books?” “Urm…” I was completely convinced by Yvette. “So that’s how you feel. As long as you don’t act like the others do.” “Are you talking about my sister?” “Yes.” I nodded. “Don’t worry. I will never ever become a woman like that. I’ll just hide quietly behind you and be your shadow. I’ll appear when you need me, no matter what you require. If you don’t need me, I will continue hiding behind you and walk alongside you. I won’t bother you.” “Is that how you really feel? What if I have other women in the future? Would you be jealous?” “I wanted to become your mistress to repay you, so why would I be jealous? If you want to be with other women, that’s your business. All I need to do is make sure I conduct my responsibilities dutifully. No matter how many women you have, it would have nothing to do with me.” I was very surprised by Yvette’s attitude. I had pushed her aside initially. Even though she was pretty, she was simple-minded and did not seem to think long-term. However, I found myself liking her a little more when I heard her words. Shadow? I liked that term a lot. She understood very clearly where she stood. From this alone, I found her much more reliable than Mindy. Lorne parked the Land Rover next to the road just then. “We’re here, Freddie.” “Alright,” I replied. I turned to Yvette, “Don’t tell your parents about what happened today when you get home.” They were a family, after all. If things got too serious, it would affect their relationship. “I know. Thank you for today.” Yvette pecked me on the cheek after that and got out of the car. I felt pretty happy to see Yvette leaving so happily. “Where should we go next, Freddie?” I did not reply. I took a few wads of cash out of my bag and flung them at him. “You’ve done well today. Take this.” “You’re too kind, Freddie. It’s my honor to work for you. How could I accept this gift?” “There’s no need to be so polite with me. I’ll need more of your help in the future.” “I’ll happily accept this, then,” Lorne said joyfully. “Where shall we head to next?” I was about to tell him to drive to Waterfront Paradise. However, I suddenly received a message from Chris on my phone. “Where are you, Freddie? Something’s happened to Nadia…”
