Who had done it?
My first thought was that our house had been burgled.
Montana had a key, so there was no reason for her to destroy the lock.
I reached out for a mop to use as a weapon and carefully pushed the door open.
I was stunned to witness the scene inside.
The ‘thief’ had not left and was now sitting on the sofa in his shoes and happily watching the television. The floor was covered in nutshells and fruit stones.
I could not help but frown at what I saw.
This thief was being much too bold.
He had burgled the house without leaving and had stayed to eat and drink. Did he think this was his own house?
I clenched the mop in my hand and slowly got closer to him.
The thief heard my movements from the sofa and did not even bother to turn back as he said, “So, you’re finally willing to come home? I thought you were trying to hide from me for the rest of your entire life.”
Huh?
What did he mean?
I was puzzled by his words and asked, “Who are you? What are you doing in my house?”
“Hey, you’re not Montana. I thought she was home.” The man lifted his head to look at me. I could see the disappointment in his eyes.
I was able to determine the situation from the words he had said.
This man must be waiting for Montana. It was clear that they did not have a good relationship. He must either be her ex or her enemy.
At the thought of this, I said to the man, “She’s not home yet. Call her yourself if you have anything to say to her. Now, please get out of my house.”
He had broken into my house, which was enough to tell me a lot about his attitude. There was no need for me to be polite to him.
“Your house? Isn’t this my older sister Montana’s house?”
“I rent this place with Montana. She’s your older sister?” I looked at the man incredulously.
This guy was in his twenties and looked like a bum. His hair was dyed blonde and he was wearing a bright, flowery T-shirt. His arms were covered with tattoos, and no matter how much I looked at him, he did not look related to Montana at all.
“We’re step-siblings. We don’t share the same parents. Alright, let’s stop with the crap talk. Where’s the b***h? Get her to come home immediately!” the man said impatiently.
Step-siblings who did not share the same parents?
I remembered something when he mentioned this.
Vincent had helped me find out about Montana’s background before…
I knew that her mother had remarried and her spouse had a kid of his own. It looked like that kid was the person in front of me now.
At this thought, I said to him, “Since you know she’s your sister, you should be more courteous to her. Don’t call her a b***h for no reason.”
“Who the hell are you? I can call her whatever I want, and it’s none of your business. If you know how to get in touch with her, just get her to get back here. If you don’t, then shut the f**k up!”
“I know how to contact her, but is anything the matter that you need to urgently get her home for?” I smiled and asked.
“Of course something’s the matter. We agreed that she would send money home this Monday. Just look at what day it is now! I called her on the phone, but she refused to pick up. This b***h is trying to back out of her promise.”
“Oh, so she owes you money?”
“Not really, but we’re in agreement that she does the earning while my father and I take care of her seriously ill mother. The money is for her mother’s treatment, so this b***h is ignoring her own mother now. Tell me, isn’t such an unfilial person deserving of being taught a lesson?”
Unfilial?
I sneered in my heart when I heard him say that.
I was aware of Montana’s situation.
Her mother had met the wrong person and married the world’s worst scumbag. This father and son pair were nothing but bloodsuckers. They wanted to use Montana’s mother to continue pressuring her for money. They were treating her like an ATM.
The money must be used by them for gambling or p**********n. To put it in a nutshell, this father and son pair were the epitome of scumbags.
This thought prompted me to smile and say, “She sounds pretty unfilial from your descriptions. I assume you’re here to ask her for the money?”
“That’s right. My mum is lying on a hospital bed right now, waiting for the money to save her life, but Montana decided to ignore us and refuses to answer my calls… How could I not be angry? If you have her contact, please call her now and say that her mum is dying. She should quickly send some money over.”
“Alright, got it. I’ll call her now.” I turned to return to my room.
Montana’s brother called out from behind at this point. “Hey, you! Remember to push her for it. Tell her that her mum needs three hundred thousand, and she has to give us the money in three days. Otherwise, her mum can’t be saved.”
“Three hundred thousand? That isn’t a small amount… Can she pull the money together in three days?” I asked worriedly.
“I know it’s a big amount, but there’s nothing I can do about it. The doctor said that the surgery requires that much. I know that she’s now a popular streamer on the Waves of Whales Streaming Platform. She is definitely capable of earning that amount.”
“That’s not right. It isn’t easy for Montana to earn money. She has to go online to stream every night. It’s quite tiring.”
“What’s so tiring about that? I know how female streamers work. Even a p********e of a slightly higher class will sleep with rich men several times if she is willing. Wouldn’t the money come in easily then?” Montana’s brother said with indifference.
I was angered at those words. “What nonsense are you talking about? Is that something a brother should be saying about his sister?”
“Hey, I know it isn’t ideal for my sister to be doing something like this… But our mum is in the hospital bed waiting for the money for her treatment. Our mum brought her up with everything she had. Now that Montana needs to sacrifice a little bit to help her, it’s not much to give back in exchange. Shouldn’t she help our mother out?”
“Alright. I understand,” I answered and went into my room.
…
After I made sure the room door was closed, I took out my phone and called Montana.
“Hey, where are you right now?” I asked Montana.
“I’m in class. What’s up?” Montana replied in a very quiet voice.
“Your younger brother is here.”
“What?!” Montana shouted. She might have realized she was in class after that as she quickly lowered her voice. “Carl Carson… Is Carl there?”
“I have no idea what his name is. All I know is that he’s dyed his hair blond and looks quite uncouth, just like a little punk.”
“That’s him. That’s Carl. Why is he over there? What is he doing there?” Montana mumbled.
I could tell from her tone that she was extremely anxious.
“By the way, did he say what he was doing here?” Montana asked.
“He did. He said he wanted three hundred thousand from you to treat your mum’s illness!”
“Three hundred thousand. He must be dreaming!!!” Montana sounded really angry.
“Montana, this isn’t right. You should give him the money since your mum is sick. It’s money that needs to be spent, so you should give it to him. Besides, you’ve earned over millions before this.”
I knew the truth about what was going on, but I had to pretend I knew nothing in order not to make Montana suspicious.
“You have no idea about my situation. I’ve given them a million before this. I didn’t expect them to spend every penny in just a few days, and now ask me for money again. Tell me, how could they do something like that?!!!” There was desperation in her voice. “Freddie, can you help me? Help me get rid of Carl. I really don’t want to see him anymore.”
“But what should you do about your mother? Are you going to stop her treatment?” I continued pretending like I knew nothing.
“My mum might be laying in a hospital bed, but her life is not in any danger. They want the money to spend on themselves. Freddie, just help me out with this and get rid of him. You can use any reason you want. If he doesn’t leave, I wouldn’t dare to live in this house anymore,” Montana said with melancholy.
It was not difficult to guess that she must be filled with dread right now.
“Alright. I’ll help you get rid of him, but before I do, you have to tell me everything that is happening to your family. Don’t hide anything from me.”
“I…” Montana was a little hesitant.
“Montana, aren’t we roommates and best friends? Tell me what’s going on, and I might be able to help you out.” I tried to convince her.
“Well, alright. It’s like this…”
Montana told me everything in just two minutes.
It was quite close to what I already knew about her. This father and son pair were really something. They were absolute scumbags.
How could Montana’s mother be so blind as to marry such a man?
I sighed soulfully and said, “Don’t worry. I’ll settle this problem with your brother properly. Don’t come home tonight. Come home after everything has been settled.
