“Assassination?” Vincent sounded shocked over the phone. “Are you alright, Young Master?”
“I’m fine now. I’ve shaken him off. Send someone quick to get me.”
“Glad to know you’re fine. I’m on my way right now. I’ll pick you up in a while.”
…
I sat by the roadside to rest after hanging up. I was still shocked.
My mind was filled with thoughts of what had just happened.
I could not figure out if this was a coincidence or was it a planned assassination.
If this was a coincidence, why would that illegal taxi driver want to murder a ‘penniless loser’ like me? One look at me and it was clear that everything that was on me was not worth even two hundred.
Unless what he wanted was not money, but my organs.
If this was premeditated, who would want to kill me?
Howard?
Or was it Macy?
If it was Howard, it was true that I had recently offended him and he hated my guts tremendously, but how would he know where I was?
As for Macy, she knew where I would be, but what would be her motive for this?
I thought about this long and hard, but I still could not figure out who would be behind this.
It was also unclear if this was just a coincidence or planned.
I waited for about more than ten minutes before Vincent arrived with some men.
He hugged me when he saw I was fine and tear flowed down his face in agitation. “I’m so sorry, Young Master. I have let you down by allowing you to suffer such a shock.”
I was a little touched to see him care about me so much. I quickly consoled him, “I’m fine, Uncle Quinn. This could be just a coincidence. You don’t need to feel so bad about it. Let’s get in the car to talk.”
…
Vincent looked me over properly after we had gotten into the car. When he was sure I was not hurt, he breathed a long sigh of relief. “Young Master, what did the person who tried to assassinate you look like? Describe him to me and I’ll get in touch with the police to get them to conduct a nationwide search for this person.”
“That man was dark and skinny, about 1.6 meters tall, has a crew cut, and drives a common, black Passat. As for the license plate, I can’t really remember it. He was heading out of the city and I guess he has left by now.” I felt a little sorry about it.
“Don’t worry, Young Master. How dare he try to hurt you? We’ll catch him no matter where he runs to. By the way, Young Master, who do you think is behind this?”
“I’m not sure. I came to Cloudy Waters today to have a meal with an old friend. Only Yvette Sullivan and Macy Ziegler knew where I was, which is why I’m not sure who could be behind this. It could be a coincidence, or it could be a planned assassination.”
“Have you offended anyone recently, Young Master?”
“If it’s someone I offended recently, it would be my classmate, Howard Lincoln. Even though I’ve had a brush of trouble with others, it’s not enough reason for them to do me harm.”
“Alright, Young Master. I’ll get someone to investigate these people. I’ll do my best to get to the bottom of this. Also, you better not return to your home tonight. I’m worried someone might try to harm you there.”
“Well…”
I hesitated for some time before rejecting him. “I think you should just take me home. What if my roommate gets hurt instead? That is why I need to return.”
“Alright, I’ll take you home now. Another thing, since there’s a danger of your identity being revealed, we will be assigning a bodyguard to ensure your safety 24/7.”
“A bodyguard?” I shook my head vigorously. “I don’t think that’s necessary. How am I supposed to go to school if I have a bodyguard with me at all times?”
“Don’t worry, Young Master. We’ll make the proper arrangements.”
“But…”
“No ‘buts’, Young Master. If you don’t agree with it, the board of directors will not allow you to continue with school.”
“Alright.” I could only agree as Vincent had put it that way.
…
It was already eleven at night when I reached Waterfront Paradise.
Montana had gone to sleep and her room lights were turned off.
I felt a little disappointed about it.
Ever since my relationship with her had broken the friendship barrier yesterday, I wanted to chat with her a little longer today.
I had not expected her to turn in so early.
After brushing my teeth and cleaning up quickly, I went back to my room to sleep as well.
…
I woke up very early to school the next day because I had morning class.
On the way to school, I could sense eyes staring from behind me.
I knew that they must belong to the bodyguards Vincent had assigned to protect me in secret.
Even though I knew of their mission, I still felt uncomfortable.
So, I called Vincent before I got into my classroom.
“Uncle Quinn, are there any results from last night’s investigation?”
“No, there isn’t. Whoever he was, he was quite cunning. He must have used a fake license and a mask. It’s quite difficult to continue with the investigation…” Vincent was sorry as he said this.
“I see. Thank you for your work. By the way, could you get those people following behind me to buzz off?” I laughed bitterly. “They’re too annoying.”
It was fine I did not notice them, but after realizing they were there, I felt awkward and suffocated.
“Young Master, those people are just temporary. Once the real bodyguard arrives, they will leave.”
“The real bodyguard?” I was astonished. “Who is it?”
“I’m not really clear about the details either. Just wait and you’ll see.”
“Alright.”
…
I entered the classroom after hanging up.
The first class of the day was International Finance. However, the person who walked into the room was Cherry.
A beautiful and cool-looking girl followed behind her.
The girl had on exquisite makeup and was wearing a pretty baseball cap. She was tall and slender, and she was wearing a short shirt, showing her tummy, and a pair of hot pants. She looked very trendy and cool.
She attracted everyone’s gaze with her presence and her appearance had actually overshadowed Cherry.
Cherry slammed on the table a few times after getting up to the lectern. “Be quiet, everybody. I’ll be teaching this class today. Before we start, let me introduce your new classmate. This is Mindy Neal, an exchange student from a university overseas.”
She was from overseas?
Everyone began to discuss this amongst themselves when they heard this.
As for me, I narrowed my eyes and smiled as I sized her up.
If I was not mistaken, she must be the bodyguard Vincent has assigned me.
“Say hi to everyone, Mindy,” Cherry said to Mindy.
“Hi, everyone. My name is Mindy Neal. Nice to meet all of you.” Mindy gave a bow to everyone after saying this.
“Alright, class will begin now, Mindy. Find yourself a seat.”
“Thank you, Miss Quentin.” Mindy carried her backpack and walked off the lectern.
The boys in the class were excited and rowdy, especially when the new girl was gorgeous. Every boy waved Mindy over, indicating the empty seat next to theirs.
However, Mindy took a look around the class and, in the end, she took the seat next to me. She said to me coldly, “Can I sit next to you?”
“Sure.” I nodded.
With that, Mindy sat next to me under the envious eyes of every boy in class.
After the new student had settled in, Cherry began the class.
However, I was not in the mood for the lesson. I wrote something in my notebook and pushed it to Mindy. “Were you sent here by Vincent Quinn?”
However, Mindy took a look at it and ignored me, acting as if she had not read it.
I was not about to give up. I wrote another sentence. “I know you’re the bodyguard he assigned me.”
Mindy took another glance and continued to stay silent.
However, I knew that she was here for me.
…
After the class, I went to the washroom with Chris.
He was quite excited while we were walking along the corridor. “Freddie, that new girl is so gorgeous. Didn’t you see how the eyes of the guys in our class popped when they looked at her? I overheard them saying that they wanted to go after her.”
“Is that so? How about you?” I smiled and looked at him.
“Me… Well, if I didn’t have Natasha, I’d go after her too. You don’t have a girlfriend now, Freddie, and she’s sitting right next to you. Why don’t you make a move before everyone and try your luck?”
“There’s no need to.” I smiled. “She’s here for me anyway…”
“Here for you? Freddie, there’s no need to exaggerate here!” Chris looked at me in disbelief.
