Chapter 31

“One… One thousand?” Montana stammered in shock from Macy’s words. I understood that Macy was doing this to get into my good graces. She was aware that I was the owner of a supreme black credit card, after all. There were only a few cards like this in this world, which was why she had probably guessed who I was. That was why she was eager to please me. I gave Montana a push at the thought of this. “What are you doing? Hurry up and accept the deal.” Montana quickly nodded when I prodded her. “Sounds good. When can we sign the contract?” She was quite anxious about it as she was worried the landlord would go back on the deal. “If both of you have your identity cards on you, we can get things done immediately…” said Macy. “I have mine with me.” Montana quickly handed over her identity card. I smiled in my heart when I saw how anxious Montana was. I guessed that Macy was probably even more anxious than Montana. This was her chance to get into my good graces, after all. When both parties were done signing the contract, Macy smiled as she passed a copy of the contract and a bunch of keys to Montana. “Welcome to your new home. My number is on the contract. You are welcome to contact me anytime.” With that, Macy gave me a meaningful glance. Montana did not notice anything strange with Macy as she happily said, “Thank you for all your help, Miss Ziegler.” “No problem. It’s only right to help each other out. I guess you both have a lot of luggage to move, so I won’t bother you any longer. You can go ahead and busy yourselves.” Macy turned to leave at this. However, she winked seductively at me before she left. This slutty fox was trying to seduce me again! I could not help criticizing her in my heart… She was a brazen woman. I was moving in with Montana, and any normal person would have assumed we were a couple. Even then, Macy was openly attempting to seduce me. She was a s**t through and through. I sighed silently. I knew that a landlord like her would probably give me a lot of trouble in the future. Too bad for me that Montana liked this place! “Freddie, your haggling skills are pretty incredible.” Montana interrupted my thoughts. I laughed in reply. “Well, I am an expert in haggling. When it comes to negotiating prices, even those market sellers aren’t as good as me.” I was telling the truth. Being an orphan, I had always led a hard life. I would haggle for even the lowest-priced vegetable in the market. I did it so often that the sight of me struck fear in the hearts of the market sellers. “Freddie, you’re so great. I didn’t believe you when you claimed you could haggle, but now I do… But this landlord seems too easygoing. I’m a little unsettled by it.” “There’s nothing to worry about. Let’s just happily settle down here.” I knew better than anyone the real reason Macy had rented this place so cheaply to us. If you really thought about it, the person who stood to gain the most in the end was her. “Do you think this is one of those murder houses?” Montana fearfully asked. I flicked Montana on the forehead and replied quite exasperatedly, “It’s not. Stop imagining things and just go get a good night’s sleep. If this was a murder house, she wouldn’t have dared rent it out.” “That’s true. Let’s hurry up and move our stuff in.” “Alright.” … We began to pack when we returned to Shoal Apartments. Montana’s things had already been packed into a suitcase, and with me being a guy, I did not have a lot of stuff. That was why it only took us two trips to finish moving everything to Waterfront Paradise. Montana happily walked around our new place, a wide smile on her face. “Freddie, this place has three rooms. Can I use one of them for my live streaming? I’d like to put up some adorable stickers onto the wall.” “Sure.” “Hehe, thanks, Freddie. Let’s start unpacking.” “Alright.” I prepared to unpack after replying to her. Right at that moment, someone knocked on the door. When I opened the door, Macy was standing outside with a bunch of movers holding plants behind her. “What’s going on, Miss Ziegler?” I looked at Macy in surprise. “This house of yours is a little empty, which is why I’ve gone through the trouble of getting you something green. I hope you’ll like them.” “Yeah, they look nice.” With that, I moved to the side. The workers placed the plants in the house, and the entire area immediately looked much livelier. Montana’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Miss Ziegler, you’re much too kind to us.” “Actually, compared to Mr. Lang’s help, this is nothing.” “Help?” I was a little stunned. I had no idea what Macy was trying to do. Montana was quite curious. “Do you and Freddie know each other, Miss Ziegler?” “We do, but I don’t think he recognizes me anymore. I was working part-time a few years ago when I passed out by the side of the road out of fatigue. It was raining heavily that day, and I ended up with a high fever. I was lucky to bump into Mr. Lang. My life was saved because he sent me to the hospital in time. He is my benefactor.” I was speechless at the nonsense she was spouting. She had actually repurposed Yvette’s story and substituted herself into my role in the story. However, this explanation satisfied Montana. Montana nodded in realization when she heard this. “I see. I wondered why his haggling skills were so amazing. This fellow here never tells me anything.” “I actually forgot about it,” I scratched the back of my head in embarrassment. “Mr. Lang, you may have forgotten about this, but it’s something I’ll never forget. Just stay here without worries. You can come knocking on my door anytime for anything. I live just next door.” Next door? I was scared silly by her! This foxy woman had made the decision to stick close to me. I glared at her at this thought and hinted at her to get out. “Hmm… I’ll come knocking if there’s anything we need. We have to continue unpacking now.” “Go ahead, Mr. Lang. I won’t disturb you any longer. I’ll be leaving now.” With that, her sexy waist twisted as she turned to leave. … Montana began to size me up curiously after Macy was gone. “I would never have imagined you were such a kind person despite being poor.” “Doing good brings you good karma, so it’s only right that we be kind.” I believed this especially now. Otherwise, how else would I have been able to inherit billions? “Seems like you’re a really good person.” Montana’s eyes shone brightly when she looked at me. “Of course I am. I’m definitely a good person that can be trusted. If you don’t believe me, why not try dating me for real?” “What do you mean, date you for real?” Montana was puzzled. “I mean, be my girlfriend,” I said, half-jokingly and half-seriously. My heart started beating wildly after saying that. After all, this was my first time confessing to a girl since the Lina Holden incident. “I don’t want to.” Montana rejected me without thinking twice. “Why? Didn’t you just say that I’m a good person?” I was not willing to give up. “There are so many good people in this world. How can I be the girlfriend of every one of them?” Montana replied nonchalantly. “Alright. I was just testing you, anyway. We’re staying under the same roof, after all. I wouldn’t know what to do if you did happen to have intentions toward me. I can stop worrying about that now.” “Hmmph!” Montana grunted a little pridefully. I wondered what that meant. She went into her room after that. … I was still slightly stung from Montana’s rejection. Even though my ‘confession’ was phrased as a joke, I was still a little serious about it. Montana might be a little slow and silly sometimes, but she was a very kind person. There were even times when she could be quite ferocious. However, she was so pretty… She was adorable even when she was angry. No man would not like a girl like her. Unfortunately, I still ended up being rejected by her. I was not dejected for long before I cheered up once more. Layla had finally messaged me. “Freddie, give me your address. I’ll get my driver to pick you up tomorrow. Remember to bring along your identity card.” My identity card? Were we finally getting married? Was this what it felt like to have one door open after another closed? I was filled with joy at receiving the message and I immediately replied, “Alright, wifey. What time should I leave tomorrow?” “Tomorrow morning at ten. Also, stop calling me wifey!!!!!” Layla sent me a string of exclamation marks. It seemed like she minded this moniker a lot. However, this only encouraged me to tease her further. “Got it, wifey!” Layla, “!!!!!!”
