CHAPTER 2

BRITTANY'S POV: "Brittany, are you okay?" the driver asked. "Yes, I am. I just feel a little dizzy," I replied, holding my head. "Should I call your mum?" he asked with concern. "Please don't call anyone. I don't want to ruin my first day. I can manage... Let’s just get to the school," I replied firmly. I didn’t want him to call my parents; I didn’t want them worrying about me. "Alright, dear, I won't," he said. "Thank you, sir," I replied as he called a vulcanizer to pump the flat tire. The car had stopped abruptly, but thank goodness no one got hurt. "Let’s go," he said as he maneuvered the car, and we started moving again. * * Hi there! I’m Brittany Smith, and today is my first day at Dashville High in Los Angeles. "Finally," I said as I stepped out of the car and waved goodbye to Josh. I took a deep breath and walked into the schoolyard. Oh boy, I feel so nervous. I don’t know anyone, and I can’t help but wonder if my new classmates will like me. "Ouch!" I exclaimed as I bumped heads with someone. Why do I have to hurt my head twice in one day? I raised my head in pain, only to see a very pretty girl holding her head, her books scattered on the ground. Great. You've messed up, Brittany. "So sorry! Let me help you pick them up," I said, bending down to gather her books. "Thanks a lot" "No, don’t help her! She doesn’t need your help," another girl interrupted sharply. "What?" I thought, utterly confused. The two girls looked identical, and I couldn’t figure out which one I had bumped into. "I’m sorry," I said softly. "Whatever," the second girl snapped before walking away. "Sorry about that. I’m Dwayne, and that’s my sister, Dawn," the first girl said, extending her hand for a handshake. "Thanks. I’m Brittany," I replied, shaking her hand. "Were you heading somewhere?" Dwayne asked. "Yes, but... I’m lost," I admitted. "You’re new?" "Yes, I am." "I think I can help if you tell me where you’re headed," she offered. "I’d appreciate that," I said, relieved. "What grade are you supposed to be in?" she asked. "11th grade," I replied. "That’s great! I’m in 11th grade too. I’ll show you the way," she said, turning to walk ahead as I followed closely behind. Phew! What a relief. How would I have explained being lost on my first day? Thanks, Dwayne. Dashville is a beautiful school. Everything is so organized, and the staff seem really nice too. We walked through the hallway, which had such lovely décor. Every student had their own locker shelf, it was all so neat and well-arranged. "Here we are," Dwayne said as we stopped in front of a classroom. The place was immaculate: cool desks, neat lockers, and the walls painted my favourite colour - blue. I love it! "Let’s go in," Dwayne said. "After you," I replied, tagging along. I think I have butterflies in my belly. I stepped into the classroom slowly, clutching my bag tightly. Damn. All eyes were on me. "Here comes another newbie. This is going to be a long one," Dwayne’s twin sister Dawn said from her seat. I don’t think I’m ready for this. I just want to go back home. Do you think Dawn will make Brittany’s time at Dashville difficult? We’ll find out in Chapter 3…
