BRITTANY'S POV:
Dwayne and I talked about so many things. I told her about my old school, Bixler High, and she shared stories about Dashville High.
I’m so glad I met Dwayne.
"So, tell me, Dwayne, why don’t you want to meet your ‘boyfriend’?" I asked her sarcastically.
"Because I don’t want to leave you alone," she replied.
"How?" I asked, curious.
"If I leave you, you’ll get bored, and Dawn will definitely pick on you," she said with a knowing smile.
"Thanks, Dwayne," I replied sincerely.
"Sure thing," she said, her face lighting up with a warm smile.
DWAYNE'S POV:
"Hi, Mum," I greeted, giving her a peck on the cheek as I walked into the living room.
"Hi, darling. How was school?" Mum asked.
"School was amazing, Mum," I said, grinning from ear to ear.
"Really?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes, Mum. I made a new friend," I replied excitedly.
"What? A friend? How can you call her your friend? You just met her today!" Dawn interjected, sounding annoyed.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at her.
"Urgh! Just forget it," Dawn said, storming upstairs angrily.
"What happened between you two?" Mum asked, her concern evident.
"Uh… Daw… You know what? Don’t worry, Mum. We’ll sort it out. I know my sister very well," I said, trying to brush it off.
"If you say so, dear… but you know your dad won’t be happy to see you two like this," Mum replied.
"I’ll see you later, Mum," I said as I turned toward my room. Just then, Molly walked in with her fiancé, Jace. They looked so cute together, though I couldn’t help but think, Molly’s going to torture that poor guy.
"And what’s going on between my worst baby sister and her twin?" Molly asked, holding Jace’s hand possessively as if someone might snatch him away.
"Really Molly? Am I your worst sister?" I asked, feigning offense.
"Obviously, you are," Molly said with a smirk.
"Hi, Jace," I greeted, choosing to ignore her jab.
"Hi, my favourite," Jace replied, winking at me.
"Hey! He’s my man, not yours, sis!" Molly snapped playfully. We all laughed, even Mum, who had been quietly observing.
"I’ll be in my room," I said, turning to leave.
"Hold it right there! I’m not done with you," Molly said.
"For real? Come on, Molly. I’m starving, I haven’t changed out of my school uniform, and I had a long day," I replied.
"What happened between you two?" Molly asked.
"Which two?" I asked, pretending not to know.
"You and your twin," Jace chimed in.
You’re not helping, Jace.
"Oh, that…" I trailed off.
"Yes, that. So tell me, what happened?" Molly pressed.
"Nothing serious, sis. We’ll handle it ourselves. There’s no need for you to interfere, we’re not kids," I replied, climbing the stairs.
"Come back here!" Molly yelled after me.
"See you later, sisi," I called back without turning around.
When I got to my room, I hesitated for a moment before opening the door. What if Dawn tries to annoy me? We share the same room, and she’s clearly upset. I need someone to hear me if I call for help.
Between the two of us, I’ve always been the calm one, while Dawn is the feisty and serious one.
"Uh… what’s this?" I muttered to myself as I tried to open the wardrobe. It wouldn’t budge.
"What’s the meaning of what you did in school today?" Dawn asked from behind me.
"Why isn’t the wardrobe opening?" I asked, ignoring her question.
"Dwayne, why did you have to squabble with me over that stranger?" she demanded.
"She’s not a stranger," I replied firmly.
"And you even called her your friend," Dawn said, her tone dripping with disbelief.
"Why are you being so petty right now?" I asked, starting to lose my patience.
"You spent your recess with her," she said accusingly.
"Don’t question me, sis. I may be your twin, but I’m still older than you," I said, raising my voice.
"By just two minutes! You’re older by only two minutes, Dwayne, and that doesn’t mean anything," she snapped back.
It’s not easy having a younger sibling who acts like the older one, but even if it’s just one second, I’m still older!
"You didn’t even meet James when he called you. Why?" Dawn asked.
"Dawn! Do you have anything to say, or are you just trying to get on my nerves?" I yelled.
"It’s not like you care. You know what? Just forget it," Dawn said, her voice tinged with sadness. She dropped the wardrobe keys on my bed and walked out of the room.
What have I done? I could see the sadness in her eyes. She probably wanted to tell me something. Is she jealous? Oh, Dawn…
