Chapter 6: Just For Tonight

573 Words
The laughter still echoed in Tho Tho’s ears. "Beautiful, charming... Ko Kan Bar’s still young. Girls like her suit him better, haha..." She could still feel their eyes on her as she walked into the event. Their words were playful, but the sting lingered—disguised judgment wrapped in careless laughter. --- Later That Night... Tho Tho sat on the edge of the bed, her hair damp from a fresh shower. She wore a silk nightgown, soft lavender in color, the fabric flowing gently over her curves. The room was dimly lit, wrapped in a golden hush. Her fingers tapped lightly on her phone as she reviewed photos from earlier that day. The door opened with a quiet click. Kan Bar stepped in. The air shifted. Neither of them spoke at first. It was no longer the awkward silence of strangers—but the quiet of two people learning each other’s presence. "What are you looking at?" Kan Bar’s voice was low, almost tender. "Just on LINE," Tho Tho replied, not looking up. "I was thinking of posting the photos we took today." He walked closer. "What’s your account? I’ll add you." She hesitated a second, then gave it to him. That small exchange—so ordinary—felt like a tiny step across the fragile bridge between them. After he added her, Kan Bar set his phone down and climbed into bed. Tho Tho did the same, placing her phone on the nightstand and lying down, her back to him. They lay in silence. A heartbeat. Two. "Tho Tho..." His voice came again, quieter now. "You looked tired today... Are you okay?" She smiled faintly, her eyes on the wall. "Not really tired. I actually had fun. I never thought I’d ever play golf, but talking with your CEO friends… that was a bit nerve-wracking." Kan Bar let out a soft laugh. "Don’t worry. You’re my woman, remember? And honestly... having you beside me like this, I like it." His words made her breath catch. She didn’t respond. Then she felt it—his gaze on her, warm and steady. She knew without turning that he was watching her, studying her. "You’re beautiful, Tho Tho." Her cheeks heated instantly. She pulled the blanket up a little, her voice small. "I... I’m not..." But Kan Bar had already shifted closer, his hand reaching toward her hair. His fingers brushed through it gently, reverently. "Tho Tho..." he whispered again, this time with a quiet yearning in his voice. "Just for tonight... can I hold you? I want to sleep with you in my arms." Her heart skipped. She hesitated—then slowly turned to face him. His eyes were kind. There was no pressure, only sincerity. "Okay," she murmured, her voice barely audible. "But... don’t hold me too tightly." "I won’t." With that promise, Kan Bar pulled her close—carefully, like he was afraid she might shatter. The light glowed gently around them, casting soft shadows on the walls. Tho Tho could feel his warmth, his breath against her forehead, his arms secure yet gentle. And for the first time in a long time… she felt safe. He didn’t say another word. She didn’t need him to. Wrapped in each other’s quiet presence, the night moved slowly—peaceful, warm, and wrapped in something that neither of them dared call love yet… But maybe… Just maybe... It was the beginning of something more.
