Daniel poked Trip at the nape of his neck. With a grimace, he collapsed to his knees, and fell in the dirt, his knife clattering away. Laban regarded his prone form, grinning from ear to ear.
“Dumb whippersnapper,” he said. “Way to teach him a lesson—!”
“Shut up!” snarled Daniel, and then he saw Jonah. “Were you speaking with him, boy?”
“Yes, sir,” answered Jonah, “he was talking about being the one that betrayed Trip's father to Creyton. Karin and Markus must have had the tunnel bugged, and they probably told Trip what they heard.”
