Chapter 38

1500 Words

VALERIA. Before I realize what's happening, the tip of the sword starts to draw blood from Mr. Gallagher's body. It flows through the gaps of his armor. Seeing the thick scarlet liquid snaps me out of my strange trance. I stagger back, snatching the sword right out of him. Only when it's out and stumbling out of my hands do I realize that it was the wrong thing to do. Removing the weapon would mean he's going to bleed out more. And he does just that. He sinks to his knees, gasping for breath. With fumbling hands, he takes off his armor. Everyone in class is screaming in panic. Some of them rush out of the amphitheater altogether. I'm still left there, sitting on the ground and watching as Mr. Gallagher struggles to get up. He looks at me and screams, "What the f**k is wrong with you?"
