It wasn’t dark by any means when Boyd and Oliver stopped and caught each other’s line of sight over the roof of the car, but the clouds that had chased them through the state had either bred new members, or dropped closer to the Earth, and they turned early evening into an oddly lit midnight. Pinks chased orange and blue through the dark purple sky, and the world looked washed in watercolors. The lights of the resort had been lit sometime during their interlude and their gold glows reflected off of perfectly manicured shrubs, trees, spring flowers, and a sea of grass so brilliantly green that it looked fake.
