Chapter Sixteen.
“Melina, wake up,” my mother stormed into my room. I swear that door was locked but when has that ever stopped her.
“Ew, mum! I’m naked!” I yelled at her, wrapping the covers around me.
“Why are you sleeping naked? Are you hot?” She looked over my bed before sitting down, “and looks like you’ve been running a mile in your sleep, have you got a fever?”
She leant over to feel my forehead.
“Mum! Move away!”
“Fine,” she stood up again and pushed down the creases in her shirt, “I just wanted to see if you’re okay, since it’s been days.”
She looked me up and down once again, “but I see it’s because you’re sick.”
Her eyes stopped on my wrist and in turn her eyes widened, “you’re hurt.”
“It’s nothing,” I hid my arm which had a new accessory thanks to Jack’s handiwork.
“I really worry about you, Melina,” she crossed her arms, “now get up and shower. We’re all going out this evening. All of us.”
“But you just confirmed I’m sick,” I whined.
She turned her heels, “looks like your fever was broken last night.”
And just like that she was gone again.
I moaned as loud as I could before pulling the covers all the way over my head.
So we were back in our navy blues, while I had a white button up crop top I had a mid length pleated navy blue skirt that came up to my waist. I looked over the lawn as far as I could for Jack. Yes, we were on our front lawn but it was a sea of people at high bar tables congregating together. People I knew and people I didn’t. But the main people I knew were in navy blue, my family. And the other were Prince Eric and King Angus in grey. Everyone else was a blur. Most being acquainted and friends from school, but no one I cared for. I didn’t know why we were having this meeting, but I felt that my mother had something to do with it to do with her meddling with Eric and I. Surely she knew that two rejections meant it was final. I felt like looking for Jack just to make a scene. And that’s what I felt I should do.
After too many champagnes and too many greetings I decided to make my way to the stables, and through to the beagles. It had been a while since I had seen my babies. But I also knew if anyone of significance to me were looking for me, this is where they would come, and I was right.
“Jack,” I almost ran into his arms.
He held onto me tightly and kissed the top of my head, “I’d been waiting for you, precious.”
“You did say I would see you later,” I smiled up at him.
He leaned down towards me and before long we kissed quickly, like it was a daily routine.
“I hoped it was sooner rather than later,” he smiled before kissing me again.
“They might miss me,” I told him, kissing him once more, “so I’ll be quick.”
“I don’t care,” he mused, leaning down further and kissing my neck, “you’re mine.”
“So it is true,” I heard a voice squeal from behind the stables.
We both turned and looked to find Jessabelle peak out before walking out confidently.
“Jessa, it’s not what you thing,” I warned carefully.
“I told Carmichael, but he didn’t believe me,” she countered.
Oh how she was wrong.
“Princess Jessabelle,” Jack started, but I knew he had no chance with her.
“Jessa, it’s okay, we’ll figure it out,” I told her, putting my hand up trying to be weary of her feelings.
“You love him?” She asked me, her bottom lip wobbling like the world was crashing beneath her.
I looked up towards Jack for a moment, who looked at me longingly, then back to my sister who looked at me in despair, “yes.”
It was all I could say. Jessa looked even more in turmoil and I dare not to look at Jack. Instead he just squeezed my shoulders from behind me in reassurance.
All three of us stood there in silence for a moment while it looked like Jessa got her thoughts together.
“It won’t be before long that people will look for you, Melina. Best hurry up.”
Jessa ran off towards the house and I looked up at Jack dumbfounded.
“That’s two down, about fifty more to go,” he told me.
I tried to laugh sarcastically but it only took a second before Jack’s lips were back on mine.
His body pushing me back towards the side of the stables, his body against mine as his hands moved vigorously underneath my skirt before he felt the skin of my thighs, he lifted me up, his mouth taking in the skin on my neck. My head lulled back and if I didn’t have my wits about me I’d let him keep going.
“Jack,” I pushed against his shoulders and he slowly stopped, dropping me back to my feet and letting my navy skirt flow back down to my calves, “not now.”
He kissed my neck one more time, quickly sucking my skin into his mouth, “but later.”
The rest of the afternoon went by without a hitch, it felt like forever but we were finally saying goodbye to our guests and turning in for the night. Jessa had been avoiding me the whole time, but I didn’t want to push her. I knew she’d never try to out me and would come speak to me when she was ready. The only person she would possibly speak to about it was Carmichael and it was safe to say he already knew, or if not an inkling with what he did for Jack and I the week prior.
After everyone had well and truly left I went out to the courtyard and slumped down on a lounge, I was exhausted. From fake smiles and fake laughs, to running and hiding from Eric and sneaking off with Jack. It was all too much. My eyes were heavy and before I even realised it I was slowly drifting off.
I woke up slightly to the feel of fingertips trailing down the side of my jaw, down my neck and to my collarbone. Jack, it made me smile before I even opened my eyes, against my collarbone he replaced his fingers with his lips, sucking slightly and licking with his tongue, it shivers down my spine, I held onto the back of his neck and his hair didn’t feel the same, I opened my eyes to see a dark mop of curly hair hovering over my chest.
“Eric! What are you doing?” I screamed, trying to push him off me and pull away.
But it was too late.
“I was looking for you all night,” he pulled at my top and then suddenly all the buttons flew off revealing my cream bra, my breasts peaking over the top of it.
His head wait straight for them, kissing my left breast greedily.
“Get off of me,” I screamed, trying to push his head away, but he was stronger than me and had me backed up into the corner of the lounge, he wasn’t going anywhere.
I kicked at his abdomen but he was on a mission.
“Get the f**k off my sister,” Carmichaels voice boomed from behind me, his words leaving his mouth slowly.
Eric stopped almost instantly looking over to my brother, his mouth open, scared that he was finally caught.
I pull my shirt closed tightly and ran over to stand behind my brother.
“Carmichael I- She-,” Eric couldn’t form a proper sentence.
I watched as Eric stood up to face my brother from the other side of the lounge and shakily tried to speak, “we are engaged.”
“No, you’re not,” Michael spoke with authority, “and from what I heard just now, you’re actions are not wanted or welcomed.”
Michael looked down to me cowering behind him, I was shaking from shock.
“Go to your room, I’ll sort this,” he said softly to me.
I wasn’t waiting another second, I turned on my heels and walked out briskly, still holding my shirt together.
“I don’t give a f**k who you think you are, no one touches my sister,” I could hear Michael’s booming voice even as I pretty much ran down the hall, until I got to my room and slammed my door shut behind me.
I couldn’t sleep, my adrenaline was still pumping. I wanted to know what had happened after I left, anyone could’ve heard Carmichael, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he lost his temper and gave Eric a nice shiner. It wouldn’t be the first time. But I didn’t dare go outside of this room and find out for myself. Instead I sat on the bench under the window and took turns in either watching the door or looking out the window to the night sky. I had my blanket wrapped around me and my head leaning against the wall, but I was wide awake.
A couple of hours after the incident I was pulled out of my thoughts by the turning of my bedroom door knob, I was alert and ready sitting under the window. I would scream bloody murder if I had to. The door creaked open slowly and my eyes grew wider and my heart was racing. My hope was that it wasn’t Eric, but maybe Carmichael, I didn’t expect anyone else but one of the two.
When the head slowly popped around the ajar door I noticed that it was blonde hair, not brunette. There was only one blonde in this house. Jack.
I got up quicker than I expected and ran to him, he barely got the door closed before I crashed into him. My head in his chest as I wrapped my arms around him. He in turn wrapped his arms around my shoulder and rest his chin on top of my head.
“I’m so sorry, Melina,” he whispered. I could hear the hurt in his voice.
I leant back and looked up at him, “who told you?”
“Carmichael, we’ll be leaving at dawn now,” he told me.
Tears pricked at my eyes at the thought of Jack leaving me, much to my dismay a tear slid down my cheek.
Jack swiped it away softly then kissed where it once was, before his soft lips met mine.
“Don’t worry, I’ll come back for you,” he whispered against my lips before deepening our kiss. I had never felt so much passion as he intwined his fingers into my hair at the back of my head, holding me in place his lips pressed hard against mine and his tongue snaked between them, dancing with mine. I felt his member pressed hard against me as I let out a small gasp.
