"David, Did you marry any woman on contract?" Mrs Megan, David's Mother, questioned him on the phone.
"How did you get to know that, Mum? " David questioned knowing fully well that he avoided his parents ever since he got married.
"You are asking me how I got to know? ", can't you see the news, it's all over everywhere," Mrs Megan replied
Did you say the news, Mum? " David asked to be sure of what he heard.
Yes, the news, are you aware of what you have just done, David? You have ruined our reputation and our image and I and your father would never forgive you for that" Mrs Megan said in her angry tone and with that, she cut the call.
As soon as his Mum hung up the call on him, His phone started ringing, jolting him out of his thoughts.
As he looked at his phone's screen, he saw the Caller ID and it was his assistant, Michael.
Picking up the call, his assistant was on top of his voice.
"Have you seen the news, sir? " Michael asked his boss
"What news, Michael " David asked
"The news about your contract marriage with Lily is all over the place, haven't you seen it? " Michael replied.
"No I haven't seen it, Michael" David replied
"It's all over the news, Turn on your Television Sir," Michael said
"I can see that now, Michael, " David said after turning on the television.
"Michael, I want you to tell the tech team to dig up that news and know who sold it out to the media. I suppose it is one of our rivals, I will find a way to pull the news out." David said
"Okay sir, I will do that, " Michael said.
LOS ANGELES
"Sir, the news was just going viral, I don't know what happened but it just got pulled out from the media," the man's assistant told him
"Who did that? Who pulled it down? " The man asked.
"The media said they were given the order to pull the news down by Mr Alex Carter, David's father, but the news has reached many ears, I am sure that it will leave a huge dent in their reputation and might even make them lose the foreign multi-billion contract, "the assistant said.
"Continue working on that," the man said.
As soon as the man was done talking to his assistant, his phone started ringing with a foreign number as the caller ID.
He picked it up and the caller said
"I am David Carter's ex-wife, and I can help you bring David and the Carter Empire down, are you interested? "
"Yes, I am," the man said.
"Let's meet at the Candy Cafeteria by 3 pm, " the woman said.
New York
"So my father has told the media to pull the news out? David asked his assistant on the phone who just called him to say that the news had been pulled down by his father. "
"Yeah he has, Sir" replied Michael
"Have the tech team found out who sold the news to the media ?" David asked
"No, they are close to finding it out, I will let you know soon who did it, once they are done with their investigations," Michael said.
"What about the Chen empire and the contract?" David asked, hoping to get a positive reply.
"Well, sir, they haven't contacted us ever since the day they rejected our application because you were not married, and I hope the news didn't reach their ears, because it might make us seem too desperate for the contract which might lead to them rejecting our application again. " Michael explained to his boss.
"I hope so, and tell the tech team to be fast, we need to know our enemies, " David muttered.
"I will do that sir, " Michael said, and with that, David hung up the call.
Los Angeles
3 pm, Candy Cafeteria
"I am Andrew Taylor, and you? " the man who was behind selling the news of the contract marriage to the media said.
"I am Ava Reynolds," the lady who has called him to meet her at the Cafeteria said.
"And you are David Carter's ex-wife?" he questioned knowing fully well that David despises women.
"Yeah I am," the lady said.
"And what do you want from me? " Andrew asked
"Since we both want the same thing, I suppose it will be better if the both of us work together to achieve it," the lady said.
"And what do you think I want ?" Andrew asked her
"I know you want to get Lily back and also destroy David Carter's reputation" Ava answered with a devilish grin on her face.
"What Makes you think that? " Andrew asked, wondering where the woman got all this information from.
"I know Lily Carter is your Ex-girlfriend and I also know what David Carter did to your family. " Ava said.
NEW YORK
"I think we have found something about the person that sold the news to the media, I am bringing it over to you now, " Michael said on the phone.
"Be fast, Mike?" David said.
30 Minutes Later
"Good day sir, I think we have found that person who sold the news to the media," Michael said, waiting for David to permit him to continue.
"Continue Michael," David said.
"According to the Warner Broadcasting service, they said that they were paid by someone to promote the news," Michael said.
"And who was that? " David asked
"Andrew Taylor was the one who paid them to broadcast the news about your contract marriage," Michael said.
"And who is this Andrew Taylor," David asked
" I am afraid sir, but it seems that Miss Lily Carter Lied to us about never being in a relationship before" Michael Said
"How," David asked
"Andrew Taylor is Miss Lily's ex-boyfriend," Michael said
"What!" was all David could mutter.
He couldn't believe what he just heard.
Immediately, he heard this, he called his chief maid, Mrs Nancy to go and call Lily to come down.
When Lily heard that, David wanted her to come down, she thought that David was now going to give her the money for her mother's treatment.
As she rushed down the stairs, the question David asked her threw her off balance.
"Lily, who is Andrew Taylor? " David asked
Immediately Lily heard the name, she fainted
