As soon as we left the forest Amanda's phone went into a frenzy. From missed phone calls to text messages her phone didn't quit. "It's John." She dials his number, her eyes widening when he answers. "What? When? My phone had no service. I'm on my way now. Call Bruce and get the Cuo's down there now!" She hangs up the phone and rushes into the car, I follow in toe. "What's up?" She sighs starting the engine. "John's little sister is missing, and his parent's have been killed, they're covered in fang marks."
We had rushed to the farm house, obviously going well over the speed limit, cutting through corn fields and destroying property on the way. When we had gotten there Bruce, Jason, Jakob and Kayla were there. Amanda got out, I could feel the anger flowing off of her. However, I don't know who that rage is pointed towards, herself for not being here, or me for asking her to let this happen. I don't doubt she'll think us going to see the witches was just a way to get her out of the picture. As soon as I step out of the car the familiar sent of the Cuo's hits my nose, one scent in particular. "Reya!" Kayla yelps as she runs over to me, I'm honestly surprised Bruce let her come to something like this. "Kayla?" She hugs me, Bruce watching us from afar. "I know, under different circumstances I wouldn't be here. But, dad doesn't think the clan is safe anymore, we picked up the smell around the house, an entire group."
Leaving Kayla I make a beeline towards Bruce. Smelling Crystal, Alice and Takan not far behind, Jake is here too, and of course Jason, both speaking to John. The scent I first met on the dead nun hits me, she was here, my brother's mate was here. "Bruce..." My head swims with the vampire stench coming from this place, not a single scent belonging to my brother. "Yes," he sighs softly. "This is the same scent that was around our home." I bite my lip hard, nodding my head. "Alright, I'll need to leave, lead them away, no doubt she's picked up my scent at the house. Strong enough to know I'm there often." Suddenly Jason is storming over, "no, no way are you leaving." Bruce stops him. "Son, the pack is in danger." "She is part of the pack! Or have you forgotten-" Bruce raises his voice, making his children and other pack members step back. "I have forgotten nothing, but you seen to have forgotten your place son! You may think you are the Alpha here, but until I say otherwise I am the leader of this pack!" Jason's eyes go blood orange, his lips curling in anger, like a growling dog.
I gently take him by the arm, watching the bright color return to it's deep blue. "Jason, it's okay. I am a danger to you and the pack." His body begins to tremble under me, his voice breaking. "No, we need to fight back." I go to protest, but Jakob joins his brother. "Until this enemy clan is destroyed father we will never be safe, it doesn't matter if Reya is with us or not, we are the enemy, our duty is to the people. We are the only ones, besides Witches who have any chance against the vampires." Bruce sighs, "I didn't say she needed to leave, she is as much my child as you three. She is a Cuo, but we do need to move her to a safe house for the time being. Perhaps I can get Takan to speak to his brother about a short alliance. No doubt the vampires will pose a threat for the Tanja clan as well. Jason, I will need you to take Reya, Jakob, Kayla and Alison to the summer cabin." Jake doesn't like this idea at all. "You want us to sit like a bunch of pups and do nothing!?" Bruce's eyes glow orange and Jake backs down. "No son, I want you to protect each other, if it is war the vampires want, then I need you to stay safe." Amber and John walk over to Bruce, Crystal, Alison and Takan with them.
"The Witches are willing to help." Amanda belts out making John stare at her eyes like they're going to pop from his skull. "We will be able to end this with them. I'm sure I can get some more hunters together as well. We have a common goal, once it is over I'm sure we can go back to hunting and killing each other, but this is bigger than all of us, we are talking about countless human lives, and the lives of others who are a threat to your brother." I could see the pain in John's face, the feeling of not knowing if his little sister is alive or not, it must be killing him. "John." He looks at me, his eyes cold, I'm probably the last creature he wants to hear from right now. "You're sister will be okay, I know my brother, and I know his clan. If they did not kill her here, it means they have another use for her, bait no doubt, for you or me I'm not sure but she will be kept safe and alive until such a job is complete. I know these words may not be comforting coming from me. But you should know she's okay." He nods, turning away.
This was it, war was coming. The only question left to answer now is, who will win?
