PART—2
The car went running through Kingston road,
both sides of which there were lined up mid-sized deciduous sycamore trees covered with snow, towards the 70th National Road that connects New York and Manhattan cities
and this Kingston Road connects Manhattan Rail-hall and Elmhurst Queens, a place situated on the 70th National Road. By the by when John asked them —" Who where get down ?" , Viviza replied that they would get down at Elington. On both sides of this Kingston Road was many a big bungalow house, and each of which had lawns, gardens, pavements around it, one or two luxurious cars frequently standing in front of it, and all houses were surrounded with wooden fences, not because of saving money
but because of creating beauty. So it could easily be understood that this area must have been rich.
In this cold night while the car was passing
through the rows of sycamore trees, by the lights of the car, by the lights of street-lamps,
and by snow-falling lightly covering everything present there with a cover of whiteness causing light and shadow-effect, or in other word - a bewildering criss- cross of light rays, specially owing to sycamore trees, it seemed to them that they were entering into such a mysterious ghostly tunnel that would swallow
them and never ever let them come back.
When the car was going forward, nobody was apperently talking to anybody, but everyone was talking to oneself in mind.
The thoughts of them were as follows:
Viviza thought that if she could not see the tomorrow's morning, the untold love towards Sumit would never be told to him. Her chance of dying was much more because what the man like a beggar said might be true in this sense that he forbade her to travel in a car where there were four persons. But eventually they were four in a car. Suddenly she felt shivered by some unknown fears. Many a time she had thought she should open her mind before Sumit but by some unknown reason she was unable to open herself and it seemed to her that she should immediately tell it to Sumit, or she would never have chances to tell it. So when she just pronounced the first syllable— "Su" of Sumit, suddenly.......
At the same time Sumit was also in reminiscence. Two years ago after having successfully passed the law course, Sumit started living in Viviza's bungalow, in accordance with Vivi's wish (he sometimes called Viviza as Vivi). He thought the incident that happened one day a month ago. When he was lying on his bed and writing a poem of love, suddenly coming unknowingly, Vivi snatched it up and when he tried to snatch it again, she put it where no gentle man could reach easily to collect it. The poem had not yet come back to Sumit, moreover he had to fall in lawyer's questioning. That day though Sumit's mind wanted to tell who he had written the poem for, but he could not do it in lack of mental strength owing to her strong personality. But this time he must have to tell it, otherwise who knows he might not have a chance anymore. So when he was about to tell, the sound of 'su..' from Viviza attracted him, but suddenly.....
And at the same time what George thought was this, that if he died this very day, his family would suffer much. His ambition of being a scientist would never be successful.
Later he started thinking that those all who predict regarding future are to make people idiots. After all nothing would happen. He tried being rational, but yet he felt that an unknown fear went running through his spine. Suddenly.......
And at the same time what the driver, John, was thinking driving was this, that he would probably not die in accordance with the word the mysterious man had uttered. But somehow if he died, what would happen to his family. He had a little daughter whom he loved very much and his daughter did him too.
When all were busy with their respective thoughts and the car was advancing forward
through the undisturbed silence, suddenly a surging wave of grave but forceful barkings of an alsetian dog from a near-by house crashed upon their thoughts, stopping Viviza, who just started uttering 'Su'..of Sumit, and everybody got back to their present senses immediately before the completion of Viviza's word.
In the meantime within half an hour they reached Elmhurst Queens. Turning on NH-70
northwards, John again asked where they would get down. Viviza again replied, 'Elington'. NH-70 being an 8th lane way, he took the right side 1st lane. Only two or four heavy vehicles were running to and fro with yellow signals, suggesting, ' Go slow, watching carefully'. It is a very broad, straight road almost without trees except a few big trees standing on a considerable gap like other American High ways with automatic signal-system. Heavy vehicles, trailers, etc. generally pass through at aronud mid-night.
But this being cold, foggy night, the road seemed to be alone and friendless, only very light fog was floating everywhere under high power halogen lights, covering everything with its whiteness. Visions were not going far.
The car stopped as Elington came. Viviza and John, getting down and giving fair to John, said, " Good Night ! Be safe!" They went to pavement and began to walk side by side, gossiping.
Surroundings of the public thoroughfare were not only silent but mystic also. Only two shadowy figures of male-female covering themselves with hats and long coat-pant sets,
but the female figure had a speciality of wearing long shoes upto knees. They were walking on the pavement side by side, whereas Sumit was along the row of shops, but Viviza, along the road side.
Viviza suddenly laughed and said to Sumit, " How bogus our conversation, or mine was not only in the car but also with that beggar this day !" Smiling, Sumit replied that
many people even now believed in superstitions, but he himself knew that nothing would happen and dreams never came into reality. It was nothing but bogus.
Feeling a bright light backwards instantaneously, Sumit turned his head on back and behind them saw a heavy vehicle in probability since it was a far bit.
They would leave this NH-70 soon and turn on Hilari lane, where a little inside Viviza lives in her own house, which is a two storey building with a garage and a beautiful garden.
The other days they two go to the station by Viviza's car, but this day there being a minor problem seen in her car, they went by taxi.
Sumit stays in the ground floor as her paying guest. Once when Sumit was not finding a room to stay, Viviza requested him to stay in her house if he has no problem.
They were walking side by side talking. What they both felt was likely to be coming home passing by all danger at last. And being very much tired, they both thought how soon they would lie down on bed. Sumit had a side bag hung from his shoulder and Vivi, a lather briefbag at her hand. Sumit noticed Vivi was in trouble for that bag. So, he said," Vivi! Will I take it?" Vivi answared, " Only the bag, not me! I'm so much exhausted if I were lifetd up by you, I would be so much glad that I would give you a kiss as a gift." Sumit kept quiet for a couple of minutes, but in his quietness he went deep in reminiscence. At one night in winter probabely last year while he lay asleep on his bed, suddenly he felt two jerks almost at the same time, one direct created by Viviza and another indirect, which seemed to be pushing, or pulling his bed. Waking up from sleep with an unknown fear and sitting, he asked, "What happened? Vivi !" But before the response from her, he felt such a turmoil that he could not understand whether Vivi had fallen upon him, or he himself had fallen upon Viviza. Thereafter being puzzled, they remained embraced with each other on his bed just for a minute. But Viviza immediately released herself from the clutch of Sumon as soon as she got it into her senses and said that she had come to tell him that there had been happening an earthquake, which Sumon had already understood. All the things in the room were at sixes and sevens, but he seemed to be thinking some other thing—their embracement, which he would never ever forget. This was his reminiscence that he went under when Viviza indirectly told him to lift her up. "Hallow! What happened!", said Viviza. "Hau! I...I...thinking....", said Sumon.
In the meantime the taxi driver, John let George get down where he wanted to, after that he started going his own home.
