PART—3
Viviza indirectly told Sumit to lift her up. When he tried doing it, she pretended that she had said it to have fun. But having read and understood her real desire wanting to be in his arms , Sumit without losing time took her up while she was flinging her hands and legs like a child by saying, " No,no.....don't do it."
Suddenly she became quite quiet and told Sumit, " Please hold me up like this forever, Give me word that you should never leave me." Sumit said that he loved her very much, but he couldn't say for long because of her seriousness. Sumit wanted his gift from her.
She said, " You feel tired, so get me down first." When Sumit got her down, they exchanged their kisses through lips and both felt warm although they were walking being covered with snow.
In the meantime the vehicle that Sumit beheld a while ago came nearer. Viviza was walking nearer the road vehicles going on and Sumit, beside her. Noboby knows when Aphrodite will start her game even then when the destiney follows them. Suddenly in both of them their imprisoned love pounded like a dam breaking wave as immense as it could not be imagined. They seemed to be flying in the air like birds. In mind they both started making blueprint regarding their future: the scene of marriage, roaming after, their children, and many others like these. They did not even get the slightest hint that death would soon take one of them to another world.
Suddenly, Sumit stumbled against something stuck on the pavement( a hard snow ball frozen on the pavement , known later), and fell down. This time two things happened simultaneously. One when hardly had he managed to stand up than he heard a shrill cry of Vivi like' Aaaaaaaah...., which became echoed into the mist and the other when he fell down, it seemed to him something as heavy as an iron-rod but looking white had flown over their heads, which was protruding from a lenghty, heavy vehicle passing by them, and struck Viviza from behind at the almost same time.
He then immediately tried catching hold of her, but feeling a cold sensation going down through his spine, noticed it was not a human-body, but a mingled dough of flesh and blood of Viviza. He again and again called out, "Vivi ! Vivi !' But no response came. He was unable to pile up the body. Sitting on the pavement and holding her half boby with both his hands in his chest tightly, he became so much shocked that he remained dumb for a couple of minutes. Thereafter he kissed her like a mad man, holding her face high with his bloody hands. All the place the incident occurred on was full of blood and some cut off guts spreading here and there. For the time being, he became petrified. Later when
he got back to his conscence, he phoned over to police and hospital. And after that he became senseless.
Thereafter the scene that there arose was like this, that police, ambulence, media, many local people, skilled personnels, many flashlights, hue & cry, road blocking and even the catching hold of the trailer some distance
away, which was responsible for the accident,
made the cold night hot one.
The next day's all big newspapers like USA TODAY, THE NEWYORK TIMES, etc. published
the news under headlines,
' The Dreadful Accident
Happened Late Night'
, the gist of which was that a 16-meter long trailer while carrying a load of as many as 50 pieces of 13-meter long railway track each, one of which somehow came out transversely on the pavement side and hit a girl walking along the pavement with her friend. She immediately fell down, shouting an only big yelp before being crushed, which is known from the conversation between police and her friend over phone. The body of the girl has been mingled, being a dough of flesh along the mid part of her body and her unconscious friend had a hair's breadth escape and now has been admitted into the famous hospital named ANJELINA JOLLY HOSPITAL while recovering the body, the police sent it to the morgue for postmortem. The driver of the trailer who just heard a shouting only has been arrested. When he was asked about the incident, he told that he had been totally ignorant to it except an yelp.
On the other hand the trauma that engulfed Sumit at the place where the incident occurred led him to unconscious on the spot when he was recovered by the police from. After checking him by the doctors at hospital, they declared he had gone under coma( partial brain death). Chances of his recovery was very little. If he might come into senses within 72 hours, he might survive. A nurse was always monitoring him. 48 hours had already passed, yet no sign of stirring was noticed. In the meantime hearing the news, both John and George were visiting to hospital to see him. When they were enquired, they told police what had happened in the taxi that night outside the Manhattan station, which was really unbelieveable to everybody hearing it. On the third day suddenly a little stir was seen on his eyes, which was immediately given to doctors, who after examining announced him to be out of danger. On the fourth day he came into full senses and his first question to the nurse was how Vivi was. Then he slowly saw John, George, doctors and the police, but he couldn't see her whom he searched. All were told to go out except the nurse looking after him. She, taking the newspaper that was published on the next day after the incident, handed it over to Sumit and went away, leaving him alone.
Sumit thought there must have been something wrong otherwise he should not have been left alone. He started reading the paper with intense care and understood what the white thing was that had gone over his head and simultaniously killed Vivi when he had stumbled. It was a protruding railway track covered with snow-falling. But when his eyes came over the lines(in the newspaper), '........... So horrible was the accident that some bloody body-parts, or guts of the girl were scattered hither and thither on the sidewalk...........' , he shouted a very loud cry of exclamation with this, "Oh oh! Vivi!" I..I can't bear, can't bear." When he made this, all waiting outside the room re-entered into the room. Doctors were sent for ; for he was panting with much excitement and was about to fall down from his bed. The on duty nurse, holding him, let him lie on the bed properly while it came to her notice that there was some blood in his mouth. Doctors checked him up and declared , "His larynx has partially been damaged, he will not be able to speak for some days ." They gave him tranquilizer.
The next day when he opened his eyes, the whole scenario of the previous day was reflected again on his mind's canvass. Being calm & quiet, he looked at the far off high rising buildings through the window and started thinking how his newly blossomed love had become newly dead one, leaving him alone behind. Now he believed the proverb, 'No one can escape from his fate.' ADIEU.
