Rick picked up the intra-ship telephone on the wall of the maintenance bay on its first ring.
“We’ll be getting underway soon, Rick. Captain wants to know if everything is secure,” asked the voice on the other end of the line.
“Just finishing up now,” Rick said. “The outside doors are already closed and locked. I’ll just be another couple of minutes getting all the small craft secured.”
“We’ll be weighing anchor in ten minutes,” came the reply.
“Right. I’ll be ready.”
Tightening down the last of the straps, Rick did a quick survey of the room, found everything as it should be, and was about to leave the room and lock it when he heard voices.
I thought I was the only one down here, he said to himself and slowly cracked open the door to get a look.
