Night was creeping in. Andre parked the truck in a enclosed space, so no one sees them. He and Ray got out. Andre grabbed the jerrican. Camilla poked her head out.
"Let him sleep in the camper, honey," she said.
Andre looked at him, "Okay," he said.
Ray walked inside the camper. The lights were dimmed down so the camper wasn't that noticeable. He sat at the table which was attached to the wall. He was sitting on green cushions Jordan was already sleeping. She was sleeping on the bed in the back.
"Now that it's time to kinda relax, how old are you, Ray," Camilla asked.
Ray needed paper. He pointed to the paper pile behind her. She looked at it and grabbed the top paper and a pen. She gave it to him. He wrote down his age.
"You're fifteen. Huh, what happened to your parents?", Camilla asked
Ray shrugged and looked down. Andre came in. He was making sure that the truck was put. He put the jerrican under the counter.
"What's going on here?", Andre asked.
"He was telling me his age," Camilla told him.
"How old is he?", Andre asked.
Ray showed him the number on the paper. Andre looked at the number.
"You're fifteen? Where are your parents?", Andre asked.
"He doesn't know," Camilla told him.
Andre looked at her, then back at him. Ray looked down.
"Well, I guess we could go to sleep. I'll keep watch first," Andre said.
Camilla went lay down with Jordan. Ray sat on the bed besides the bed that Camilla and Jordan are sleeping on. Ray pulled out the camera and leaned his back on the back pack. He looked through the pictures more. There was a picture that was taken of the man, the boy that looks like him, the little boy, and the girl. They were standing in front of a blue camper.
That weird flash happened again. He was seeing out of the boy's eyes again. The lady was in front of them, holding the camera.
"Say cheese," she said.
They all said cheese. The lady took the picture and the flash made him come back to reality. He looked around. It was dark and the wind was blowing. A lamp light was shown at the table. Sitting at the table, Andre was sitting there. He was fixing a pistol.
Ray stood up and went to sit across from him. Andre looked at him.
"What is it?", Andre asked, flipping the pistol over.
Ray shrugged. He looked outside. Leaves were falling, flowing in the wind.
"I was supposed to keep watch but the wind was picking up. It blew my umbrella away," Andre said.
Ray looked at him when he said that. He looked at the pistol. Andre was having trouble getting the barrel back on. Ray went to grab it, to help him. But Andre pulled it away.
"What the f**k do you think you're doing?", Andre asked.
Ray showed what he was going to do. He pointed to the barrel. Andre looked at the gun then back at Ray. He sighed and gave it to him. Ray took the gun and the barrel. He slide the barrel back on. He aimed the pistol at a jar. It was good. Ray gave the pistol back to Andre.
"Um, thank you," Andre said.
Ray nodded his head and leaned back. He was hungry. He needed something like a rabbit. He stood up and walked to the door.
"Hey what do you think you are going?", Andre asked, looking at him.
Ray made the notion of eating. Andre pointed to the refrigerator. Ray loomed at it and walked over to it. He crouched down and opened the door. The light blinded him. He saw nothing he wanted, except for some beef. He took the little of what was left of the beef.
He put the beef on a napkin, "The microwave is by the sink," Andre told him.
Ray didn't know how to tell him that he eats things raw. He was willing to try microwaved beef. He opened the door and put the beef in the microwave. He waited for it to hit one second. When it did, he quickly open the microwave door. He didn't want it to beep, that would be like an alarm clock to danger. He pulled it out and sat at the table.
He waited for it to cool down. When it did, he pulled a piece off. He looked at it before smelling it. It smelled disgusting, but needed to act natural. He took a bite.
"That taste good?", Andre asked.
Ray smiled as he ate the beef, putting a thumb up. He ate the beef, trying to keep a neutral face.
"So, Ray, where were you before this all happened?", Andre asked.
There was a map of Michigan besides the table. He pointed to Ann Arbor.
"What were doing in Ann Arbor? You know, before this happened," Andre said.
Ray had a flash back again, seeing through the boys eyes again. There was a birthday cake in front of the boy. Then he snapped back to reality. Ray notion a birthday cake.
"So, it was your birthday. So now you are fifteen," Andre said.
Ray nodded his head "yes".
The night passed with no trouble. Andre looked out the window to see if the coast was clear. It was. He and Ray got out. Camilla and Jordan stayed in the camper. Ray grabbed the jerrican from underneath the sink before going outside. He put it in the truck's bed. He got in the passengers seat.
Andre put the keys in the key hole. The engine turned on and it rumbled. Andre drove out onto the road. Ray rolled the window down. The wind hit his face. His hair that was outside the beanie flowed in the wind. He saw and heard those dead trying to climb a fence separating them to road.
Andre stopped the truck and looked at Ray.
"We have a name for those things," Andre said.
Ray loomed at him, "We call them walker or zombies," he said.
"Walkers? Zombies?", Ray thought.
Andre put his foot on the accelerator, "Let's get going. I'm tired looming at them," he said and drove off.
