Act 2 Scene 3

( The new wife,Mama Yemisi and Mama chatting in the sitting room)

Mama:

(To the new wife) You must be very tired my wife, come with me to your husband's room and freshen up. (Turned to Mama Yemisi) Carry her bags for her, you know she is our new wife, so we have to take care of her.

Mama Yemisi:

Yes mama.

Mama:

( Turned to the bride) Then when you are done with that, you can come and eat your meal with your husband, he will be back before you come back.

Iyawo: Okay mama. Thank you.

(She left with Mama Yemisi)

Mama:

(Talking to herself) I thank God Almighty for making today a reality. Now I can hope for a grandson. That stupid woman should better not Maltreat my wife. If she tries to do that, I will show her hell in the house. In fact I will send her out of this house with are worthless and useless children.

(Mama Yemisi return and kneel down before Mama)

Mama Yemisi:

Food is ready mama. Should I serve your food now?

Mama: Am not ready for now. Set the table for your husband and his new wife. You must know that she is four months pregnant.

Mama Yemisi:

(Surprised) Wow that's great.Thank God.

Mama:

So I don't want her to do any stressful work in this house until she deliver the baby, am I clear?

Mama Yemisi:

Yes Mama. (moving out of her sight)

Mama:

Idiot! Come back here, let me finish talking before you go.

Mama Yemisi:

Sorry Mama.

Mama:

Sorry for yourself. So from now on, you will prepare all the meals in this house and your and your children must do all the house chores as well. When her baby is young enough, you will both take turns to prepare your husband's meals. Do I make myself clear?

Mama Yemisi:

Yes Mama.

Mama: Better. You can go now.

(Mama Yemisi walks out slowly feeling dejected)
