Bare Facts

The wolf moved another pace towards me.                "M-mom?" I whispered hesitantly, silently questioning my sanity.                The beautiful grey beast stared into my eyes with its wise one, swirled with color.                "If it's you, blink twice." The creature rolled its eyes in turn. It rolled its eyes at me. A wolf! Yup, I'm definitely going crazy. I need to turn myself into a mental asylum. I'm going bonkers.                The wolf huffed- it huffed at me- then blinked once, making its long lashes touch, then blinked once more.                "It really is you," I said in a hushed tone. She stepped toward me, closing the distance between us, and put her paw on my thigh.I held out my hand toward her, and she put the same paw in it.                In a flash, my mom was standing before me in her human form once more.               "Now, my darling Crystal, we have much to explain and so little time." Roxanne interrupted the silence, as she padded toward me to grip my hands into her soft ones. Where the hell did she come from? Most likely noticing my bewildered expression, Roxanne then said, "I was here, standing by the door, the whole time."                Well, okay then.                "I would have eased the information into you, but then you passed out, and I have brunch with the boys in ten minutes. And don't think anyone is trying to drink you, dear. This is all real. Lay the blame on your mother, because she's the one that's been keeping secrets." Roxanne smiled at her attempt to make a joke, but I just cast a worried glance toward my mom.                Her gaze leveled with my own, her expression more serene than anything. "Listen to everything she tells you. I can't stress enough on how important the details that she indulge you with are. And whatever you do, don't panic. Do not fill that little coconut head of yours with trepidation."                I nodded, not sure what I was agreeing with, yet completely understanding that shits about to hit the roof. * * *                Roxanne led me to the sitting area once more, but I strayed away from the chair that I toppled over just a few hours ago. I opted for the large, comfy recliner, and once situated, Roxanne wasted no time on putting her mouth to work.                "The bare facts is that Diamond and I grew up to be best friends. I mated to two of the most powerful beings this world had to offer. My husband is an alpha to be reckoned with, and my other husband has the purest blood, from the very first vampire that was created. We are talking thousands and thousands of years ago. Well someway, somehow, Diamond disappeared a few years after my mating. Months later, she reappeared with a child in her womb. That child was you. Our alpha rejected her plea to return to the pack, because she carried Emrick's scent. I hate to say so, but your father was not necessarily a saint. He was an assassin for his clan, one that was utterly feared. He killed, slaughtered, and maimed for his kin. The head vamp had Emrick do his dirty work for him. But anyways. I'm getting off topic, aren't I?'                See when Diamond came back with a baby, the alpha was a pig head. He was planning the marriage of Diamond and his son when they both turned twenty-one, since they weren't mated. He told Diamond that if she wanted to maintain her place as the healer of the pack, then she had to get rid of the bun in her oven. She refused, and reached out to me. She came and lived with us for a few months, and the twins could not stay away from her. They were always rubbing and whispering to her stomach, and followed her wherever she went. It was amazing, to watch my little three year olds waddle behind her. My mates immediately knew what it was. To find your other half is the best thing to ever happen to a person, but at such a young age, just makes it the more wonderful. They adored that little baby before she was even born, and you know who that little baby was?" Roxanne held my gaze so intensely that I ended up looking away.                This is too much, way too much for me to take in. Just a few minutes ago I learned that werewolves indeed exist, and my flippin' mother was one of them.At least give a girl a few minutes to breath before shoving something else down her throat. Yes I know who that baby was. That baby was me. I was that infant in the womb adored by Roxanne's toddlers. I'm not a mind reader, nor foreseer, but I can place two and two together.                Roxanne's eyes sparkled with utter and complete happiness. " See Crystal, that baby was you," -thank you, captain obvious- "but do you really know what that means? Do you know what having mates truly means?" Dread filled my stomach as her word sunk in. Who said anything about mates? Me? mate to who? What the hell?                "Well, you can sit and think about that, dearest. Just don't overthink anything, or else you'll work up a migraine. I have a brunch to get to. See you later, hon!" And with that, Roxanne was gone.                No need to work one up, I already feel one coming. I rubbed my temples, as I walked to the only place that I consider a safe haven: my bed.
