Lord, Help Me

I woke up to the noises of laughter and chatter. The voices belonged to Roxanne and my mom. I felt an eye roll coming on. Gosh, don't those two ever give it a break? The sun is barely out. I glanced at the clock, and it read six twenty-five. Stifling a yawn, I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom.I brushed my teeth and washed my face, because, in my opinion, it is too damn early for a shower.                I slowly padded out of my room and followed the whispers into the kitchen. I didn't even bother eaves-dropping this time, learning my lesson from last night. Whatever they say will just confuse and kill my brain cells. I need those to complete my senior year, so they will do no more suicide missions, trying to figure out just what Roxanne and my mom are hiding. Or not hiding. I don't know.                Their vocal patterns led me to the kitchen. The aroma of fresh coffee filled my nose. I greedily walked toward the pot containing the brown liquid, not even sparing the two figures whispering over the island a passing glance. I grabbed a teacup from the cupboard, and poured some sugar and cream into the little cup, as well as the steaming black liquid. I blew the steam that was rising from the cup before letting the teacup's brim touch my lips. I sighed in deep content, this is why life is worth living. Getting that beverage which starts your day, going to sleep at night, just to drink the same liquid refreshment again.                After a few more delicious sips of my coffee, I glanced up at Roxanne and Mom, who had found it within themselves to stop their conversation.                "Good morning," I stated, while taking continuous swallows.               Roxanne looked at me eagerly. "I know, I know. What am I doing here so early? Well ,my dear, let me tell you why. I thought it would be...' She lolled her head around, looking for the right word to complete her sentence. "- more beneficial if I came here, instead of you going up there." She pointed to the ceiling, indicating where she resides. "I don't want to tempt them with your scent. I can barely keep them away at it is!" She chuckled, walked toward the sitting area, doing the "come here" motion, beckoning me forward.                What the hell? My scent? I know I haven't taken a shower yet, but there is no need to call it out. I discreetly sniffed around me, checking my body odor. Relief pooled in, as I still smelled of the soap I took a shower with last night. My eyebrows raised in inquiry. If I don't reek, why would she mention my odor?                I watched as Roxanne sat on the comfy looking chair, and patted on one not too far from hers, inviting me to sit.                She started talking before my bottom fully hit the chair. "Let's start with the subject that won't have you running for the hills. Let's talk about school. Drake suggested a personal tutor, but I think you would prefer to have a chance to mingle and visit the outside world, rather than stay in this building all day. But of course, If you want a much more personal space of learning, the option of a tutor is always available.I think you should give the school a chance first, then choose, yes?"                 I nodded in compliance.                She continued on, " Let's take another baby step that won't freak you before we take the huge leap. Let's talk about work." My whole body perked up at this topic. I don't know the first thing about watching over someone else's kids, but I'm sure it can't be that bad. Roxanne seems like a nice enough person, more than nice honestly. I just hope her kids take after her.                Roxanne must have noticed the slight change in my body, since she looked at me with apprehensive eyes. She smiled reassuringly. "You, dearest Crystal, will be working at Le Déjà Vu. Sounds fancy doesn't it? Your hours are from six to eight, just preparing the club, and getting things ready. You may come in contact with the light crowd, but that shouldn't happen often. Friday and Saturday only. Thirty an hour. Am I forgetting anything?"                Well don't ask me, I don't know a darn thing.                "Now, are you ready to be freaked?" Roxanne smiled warily at me.                No, no I am not. "Um, yeah, I guess," I said, my voice coated with uncertainty.                " You see, the thing is, I don't know the best way to say this. I feel like sugarcoating the matter will not help. So I'm just going to be blunt. I just ask that you give me a moment to step away before you start acting delirious and commence throwing sharp objects around." I nodded slowly when she stopped talking.                "Look into my eyes, Crystal." I complied and watched as her eyes began to swirl with color, Brown, green, blue, and what looks like hazel moved around and around in her eyes. Finally the colors settled, and purple eyes stared back at me.                Wait, purple? Her eyes were blue just a few seconds ago. What the hell just happened to her eyes? Maybe I just imagined it. She might just be wearing contacts, that shows different colors when the light hits it some type of way. I opened my mouth to ask her what's up with her eyes, but the only sound that came out of my mouth was a tiny yelp. I quickly pulled my feet, which felt like dead weight at the moment onto the chair, that I was soon standing on. I let out a glass shattering scream. Roxanne no longer sat before me. She disappeared in a flash and in her place a brown wolf the size of an average human being sat. It was almost as tall as me and it was effing sitting!                I screamed once more, calling out for somebody, anybody, to come help me. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray to God my soul to take. If I should live for other days - Oh God I'm gonna die. Come on, Big Guy. I'm so sorry for everything. I'm sorry for spilling chocolate milk down my childhood bully's back and told everyone she went poopy. Oh God, help me, I don't want to die. I never prayed so fervently in my life.                The wolf stood on it's four feet and took a step forward. I screamed, yelled, howled, and sobbed for it to stay away.                "Crystal, calm down. You're giving me a headache. Please stop with the noise." Someone called out to me. I looked around and saw my mom shushing me. Funny that one doesn't know their own mother's voice at the moment of the death. "It's just Roxanne Crystal, stop screaming."                "Roxanne shift back, she is going to make me deaf." My mom spoke about two inches down to the wolf.                Just like that, the beast vanished, and there stood Roxanne, as naked as the day she was born. I was about to call out that a huge monster of a wolf previously stood where she is right now, but my right foot slipped, and the chair tipped over, taking me along for the ride. I felt and heard the painful thump of my head hitting the concrete floor. Black dots colored my view as the pain erupted throughout my skull. It reached a point where I couldn't fight against the darkness that was dragging me down, and let it the blackness engulf me.
