After Phil left, Cynthia sat on the bed relieving all that had happened just now between Phil and herself. No doubt she enjoyed it and wanted more, but she couldn’t put her reputation as a nurse at risk. What if someone was to find out she was having an affair with a man who had just lost his wife and was about taking on another? It wasn’t like they hadn’t started talking anyway.
She was the kind of person who never bothered herself to do anything about what people are saying except she is convinced that she is actually in the wrong.
Binta....
Binta was away on business. During her stay, she couldn’t help thinking about Phil and how he had made her agree to his terms. “Couldn’t this be a grave mistake?” She wondered. No. It couldn’t. Not after she had given him a reason not to betray her. She was confident. She didn’t really trust him, but rather trusted her ability to make him act only according to her bidding.
Cynthia couldn’t be a threat. Her marriage plans with Phil were underway. Soon enough, she'd be Phil’s legal wife and she didn’t mind the rumors. As soon as she'd caught her game, she’d chuck Cynthia as well as that annoying, half-caste daughter of Phil, Scarlett, out of the house.
Phil...
Two days before his wedding to Binta, Cynthia was avoiding him like a plague. Performing her duties and getting out of he way immediately she’s done.
Binta seemed happy about it and made several remarks. He felt she must have threatened Cynthia to make her act this way. He really wished he could back out now and chase the woman of his dreams but it was too late and he knew he he consequences of doing so.
Cynthia...
Cynthia had watched the day of shattered dreams draw closer. She really wished she could be anywhere but here but her love for Scarlett wouldn’t let her pick up her things and run away. She loved the girl beyond measure. At times, she wished she was her mother and they could make a happy and lovely family. Scarlett, Phil and her. But right now, she didn’t mind Phil. If only she could take Scarlett away. No one would let her do that and she didn’t really want to separate a father from his daughter. She had no choice but to stay.
She watched as Binta tried to get closer to Phil everyday. Her heart ached silently. In two days, she’d watch the man she loves walk down the aisle with another woman. Not just any woman, but a ruthless, crazy woman as Binta. There couldn’t be anything more heartbreaking.
