At the Cafe
The cafe manager apologized to Edgar and Simon, saying, "It seems there was an error with our system. The CCTV footage you requested is corrupted. We can't recover it, please accept our apologies." The cafe manager tried his best not to offend the two men in front of him.
"Has anyone else come to inquire about the CCTV footage before?" Edgar asked.
The cafe manager shook his head. He didn't know if the corrupted CCTV footage had anything to do with the woman from before, but he had promised not to say anything about Victoria's visit. "No, sir."
Edgar stared at the cafe manager with a judging gaze, trying to discern the truth through his expression.
Just then, a gentle voice called out, "Edgar?"
Wearing a white dress, Emily approached. Her frail and pure appearance made her look like a very humble woman.
Seeing Emily, Edgar immediately forgot the purpose of his visit to the cafe.
"Miss Emily," Edgar said with a smile. His eyes were filled with admiration and affection.
"What are you doing here?" Emily asked. She seemed a little confused to see Edgar at the cafe during work hours.
It wasn't time for Emily to know Edgar's true identity yet. So, Edgar said, "I'm attending a friend's invitation." Then, he glanced at Simon.
Simon hurriedly extended his hand and said, "Hello, Miss. I'm Simon, Edgar's friend."
Emily didn't ask further and shook Simon's hand. Then, she gave a gentle smile.
"Emily."
Simon felt Vincent's gaze on him, so he quickly retracted his hand.
Emily tucked her hair behind her ear with a graceful gesture and said, "Well, I'll be going now."
Emily was just about to turn to leave when Edgar's voice stopped her. "Miss Emily, where are you going? Let me give you a ride."
"No, there's no need. Victoria must be looking for you. I wouldn't dare make her angry."
"That won't happen," Edgar assured Emily. With a slight bow, Edgar gestured for Emily to walk ahead. "Please, Miss Emily."
Emily smiled. "Alright."
With that, Emily walked towards the cafe exit.
As Edgar was about to follow, Simon pulled on Edgar's shoulder and whispered, "What about the person who brought the evidence?"
"Forget it. I think they don't want anyone to know. That's why they deliberately covered their tracks. If they need something from me, they'll come themselves," Edgar replied.
Simon shrugged, sighing.
Inside the car, Emily sat in the front passenger seat. She turned to look at Edgar, who was driving. "Are you sure Victoria won't be angry? She always sits here. If you pick her up and she sees me sitting in her seat, she'll definitely be upset."
Emily looked worried, her fragile appearance touching Edgar's heart. "Don't worry, Miss Emily. You can trust my word. Miss Victoria won't do anything to you."
All this time, Victoria had always done everything to win Edgar's heart. Whatever Edgar said, Victoria would surely obey. Of course Edgar was sure that Victoria wouldn't dare do anything to Emily if he said so.
A moment later, Edgar stopped the car in front of a law firm building, which was where Victoria worked.
It was almost lunchtime, and usually, Victoria would ask Edgar to accompany her. However, this time, because Edgar wanted to take Emily somewhere, Edgar would only take Victoria to the restaurant and then leave her.
"Wait a moment." Edgar smiled gently at Emily. Then he got out of the car.
It didn't take long for Edgar to see Victoria coming out of the building.
As Victoria walked down the stairs, she saw Edgar waiting for her as he always did every day. However, this time, there was no joy in Victoria's heart as she saw him. Her face was expressionless and her gaze was cold.
Inside the car, in the front passenger seat, Emily smiled at Victoria through the window.
"Miss Emily has a lunch appointment. I'm going to take her. So, I can't accompany you for lunch," Edgar said, not caring at all whether his words would hurt Victoria or not.
Victoria said nothing. She looked at Emily, who was smiling mockingly at her, then looked at Edgar briefly before walking away.
Edgar opened the back passenger door for Victoria. But Victoria didn't get into the car, she walked past them.
Edgar was stunned for a moment. Realizing that Victoria's attitude had changed. Usually, no matter how he acted, Victoria wouldn't be angry, and she would never dare to ignore him.
'What's wrong with her?' Edgar frowned. Turning to look at Victoria, who continued walking towards the parking lot.
"Edgar, this is my fault. Now Victoria is angry." Emily's voice caught Edgar's attention. The guilt on Emily's face made Edgar feel disturbed.
"Miss Emily. Don't worry. I'll handle it." Edgar reassured Emily in a gentle voice. Then, he looked back at Victoria.
'She... is she angry because I didn't wait for her yesterday? Hah! I know, this must be her new trick to get my attention. Disgusting.'
Regardless, Edgar didn't want Emily to continue feeling guilty. So he stepped forward to catch up with Victoria. As soon as he got closer, he immediately stopped Victoria by grabbing her wrist.
"Miss Victoria, please watch how you act. It's up to you whether you're going to use cheap tricks or not. But please don't bother Miss Emily. I was the one who offered to take her." There was a warning tone in Edgar's voice when he spoke.
Feeling the pain in her wrist, Victoria's eyes welled up slightly, she looked at Edgar and said, "If Emily is so important to you, why did you become my personal bodyguard?"
"Miss Victoria!" Edgar felt more disgusted seeing the defiant expression on Victoria's face. Even so, he had no intention of explaining anything. To him, Victoria was not worth an explanation at all. She was just a tool for Edgar to get closer to Emily.
Realizing that Edgar wouldn't say anything, Victoria pulled her hand away from Edgar's grip, her gaze turning cold again. "Since you care so much about Emily. You don't need to be my personal bodyguard anymore. The remaining two years of the contract, you can spend it being Emily's personal bodyguard."
With that, Victoria turned around, continuing to walk towards the parking lot before getting into her own car.
'She asked me to be Emily's personal bodyguard?' Edgar was confused. But then, he scoffed, 'She really thinks that her new trick will affect me. Fool. With her arrogant and cheap attitude like that, which man would like her? Let's see how long she lasts.'
Thinking about that, Edgar returned to the car and sat in the driver's seat.
"Edgar, why did you let Victoria go? She must be very angry. I wouldn't be so worried if she was angry at me. But you, you could lose your job." Emily put on a sad expression.
Edgar smiled and said, "Everything is fine, Miss Emily. Miss Victoria can take care of herself. For the foreseeable future, I will be serving you."
Edgar didn't care about Victoria at all. On the contrary, with the ridiculous trick that Victoria did, he was happy because he had more time to be near Emily.
'Victoria is the daughter of the legal wife, but her attitude is really disgusting. While Emily, she is a real diamond. So what if she's the daughter of a mistress? After she becomes my wife, I will give her all kinds of honors.'
"Being my personal bodyguard? Why?" Emily asked.
Edgar smiled again. "It's nothing." Then, he started the car and drove onto the highway.
Emily nodded her head obediently. She didn't ask anymore. Even so, in her heart, she felt satisfied.
Of course she didn't ask because she was worried that Victoria would be angry. After all, since when did she care about that outcast? Instead, she was happy if Victoria suffered.
'Victoria, you love Edgar so much, right? How does it feel to see the man you love care more about another woman? Hahaha.' Thinking about that, a glint flashed across Emily's eyes. 'I'll make sure to take everything from you, Victoria.'
