VENUS POV
I stepped into the marble lobby of Ashford Enterprises, my heart pounding. Everything screamed money—the shiny floors, the sharp-dressed workers, even the smell of fresh coffee that probably cost more than my rent. I tugged at my cheap blouse, hoping the sweat on my back wasn’t showing.
The receptionist, with her sleek hair and perfect nails, looked at me like I didn’t belong. “Do you have an appointment?”
“Yes,” I lied, holding my head high. “Veronica James. Tell Mr. Ashford it’s urgent.”
I was moving fast—too fast. But I didn’t have time to waste. In nine months, my life needed to be in order. I needed to secure things.
In 2 days, I needed to get my mother’s surgery money ready.
“You have been staring. Can you please call him now?” I snapped, my patience wearing thin. The way she looked at me, like I was nothing, made my blood boil.
It made me feel small, like my chances to find a way out of this grief stricken situation was nonexistent.
Like I was dirt.
She frowned but picked up the phone. I waited, clutching the manila folder with my proof. My hands were shaking, but I wasn’t backing down.
“Top floor,” she said, waving me off.
I didn’t wait for another word, I just started walking.
The elevator ride felt like a death sentence. By the time the doors opened, my legs felt like jelly. But I stepped out anyway. This was it.
His office was like something out of a movie—glass walls, shiny floors, and a view of the city. And there he was. Damon Ashford. The man who had no idea his life was about to change.
He turned, his icy blue eyes locking onto me like a predator. “You have five minutes. Speak.”
I swallowed hard. “Mr. Ashford, I’m here because I’m pregnant.”
“And that concerns me how?”
I cleared my throat, my throat suddenly feeling too dry. “I am carrying your baby”
Disgust crossed his face almost immediately.
“You are carrying my baby?”he asked like that was the most bizarre thing that he has ever heard. “Do you even hear how ridiculous that sounds?”
I pulled out the pregnancy est, my hands trembling. “This is proof.”
He snatched the papers, glanced at them, and then tore them apart right in front of me.
“You think this will work?” he hissed. “Coming here with lies, hoping I’ll just hand over my money? You’re pathetic.”
“I’ve never even met you before….”
Fuck, what have I just done?
The plan was to make him believe we had a one night stand he couldn’t remember but now what?
I had gone to expose my lies.
He grabbed my arm before I could move. “Let me go!” I yelled, twisting to break free.
“You came here for a fight?” he growled. “Fine. Let’s see how far you’re willing to go.”
I swung my free hand, slapping him hard across the face. The sound echoed in the room. His head barely moved, but the fire in his eyes burned hotter.
“You shouldn’t have done that,” he said, his voice eerily calm.
Before I could react, he shoved me back. My heel caught on the edge of the fancy rug, and I fell, landing hard on the cold marble floor.
He ripped my blouse open, the buttons scattering everywhere. I screamed and kicked, but he caught my legs with one hand, holding me down like I weighed nothing.
“The audacity you people have,” he spat. “So You're trying to scam me?”
“I’ll take you to court!” I shouted, my voice breaking. I wasn’t scared of him. I hadn’t taken fertility meds and put myself through hell for nothing. I hadn’t given up so much just to let him ruin everything.
“You think you can trap me?” he sneered, leaning over me. “I’ll make sure you regret ever stepping foot in this building.”
“This isn’t a movie! You wouldn’t get away with this” he spoke again.
Who would have thought Damon was the king to harm a woman?
My face was probably red from anger and embarrassment but I forced myself to speak. “You can’t treat me like this. I’m carrying your child!”
He laughed—loud, sharp, and cruel. “My child? You think someone like you could ever be the mother of my heir? You’re a desperate little girl who thought she could play in the big leagues.”
“I’m carrying your child, whether you believe it or not. That condom at the hotel…remember? I used it, and now I’m pregnant!” I screamed, my voice breaking.
His eyes darkened, and for a moment, I thought I saw death. “You just made the biggest mistake of your life.”
“I’m keeping this child. And you’ll pay for child support. I’m not some quiet baby mama. I’ll ruin your image. I have nothing to lose.” I said, covering myself with what was left of my torn blouse.
“I see you want death. I will give it to you” He spat on my face, using my hair to drag me. My scalp was on fire.
He stood up, towering over me. “Security!” he barked.
Two men in black suits appeared almost instantly.
“Take her picture,” Damon ordered, his voice dripping with disgust. “Let the world see what kind of trash thinks she can blackmail me.”
“No!” I screamed, trying to cover myself as the guards snapped photos of me half-naked on the floor.
“And get her thumbprint,” Damon added, smirking. “I want her on record as the liar she is.”
The guards grabbed my arms, pulling me to my feet.
“You’re a joke,” Damon said, his voice calm but cruel. “A dirty, desperate little girl who doesn’t know her place. Get her out of here and go find the father of that baby cause it is certainly not me”
The guards dragged me out of his office, my bare feet scraping against the cold marble.
“Don’t do this…I’m carrying your child!” I cried, my voice breaking.
The doors slammed shut behind me, and I was thrown out onto the street, half-naked and humiliated. My upper body was bare and bruised, my trousers dirty.
People stopped to stare, mistaking me for another beggar thrown out of Damon’s office.
I wrapped my torn blouse around me as best as I could, tears streaming down my face. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go. This wasn’t the life I had planned. This wasn’t the man I m*********d about.
