Episode 13: The Locker Key
The gunshot shattered the silence.
Florence screamed.
Peter staggered backward, his body slamming against the wall before he collapsed to the floor.
For one horrifying second, no one moved.
The smell of gunpowder filled the room.
Mama Grace cried out, covering her mouth with trembling hands.
“Peter!”
Daniel Joe reacted first.
“Everyone, get down!”
He lunged toward Florence, shielding her as another shot rang out.
Bang!
The second bullet shattered the living room window, spraying broken glass across the floor.
Angela wrapped her arms around Tracy while little Divine burst into tears.
Outside, police sirens wailed louder.
Gilbert’s armed men exchanged nervous glances.
One of them whispered, “Boss… the police are here.”
Gilbert never took his eyes off Peter.
He walked slowly toward the injured man, whose breathing had become shallow.
“You disappoint me,” Gilbert said coldly.
“I gave you everything.”
Peter coughed painfully.
“You never… gave me anything.”
“You only bought my silence.”
A trickle of blood ran from the corner of Peter’s mouth.
Gilbert crouched beside him.
“Where is the key?”
Peter smiled weakly.
“You’ll… never find it.”
Gilbert grabbed Peter by the collar.
“The locker key!”
Peter’s voice was barely audible.
“It isn’t… with me anymore.”
Gilbert’s face darkened.
“You gave it to someone.”
Peter said nothing.
The silence was enough.
Gilbert released him with a shove.
His eyes slowly scanned the room.
Daniel.
Mama Grace.
Florence.
Then they settled on Florence.
“You have it.”
Florence’s eyes widened.
“I don’t.”
“I don’t even know what you’re talking about.”
Gilbert took a threatening step toward her.
“Liar.”
Daniel stepped between them.
“Stay away from her.”
Gilbert smiled.
“You’ve become very protective.”
“I wonder…”
He leaned closer.
“…is it because you know who she really is?”
Daniel’s jaw tightened, but he refused to answer.
That silence only deepened Florence’s confusion.
“What is everyone hiding from me?” she cried.
“Why does everyone keep talking about my past?”
Before anyone could respond, Detective Samuel burst through the front door with four armed officers.
“Police!”
“Drop your weapon!”
Gilbert spun around instantly.
Instead of surrendering, he grabbed Mama Grace and pulled her in front of him.
The elderly woman gasped as Gilbert pressed the gun against her temple.
“No one moves,” he warned.
The officers froze.
Detective Samuel lowered his voice.
“Gilbert… don’t make this worse.”
Gilbert laughed bitterly.
“Worse?”
“You think this is the worst I can do?”
His eyes found Florence again.
“Ask your precious Mama Grace what happened the night your real mother disappeared.”
Mama Grace squeezed her eyes shut.
“Please…”
“Don’t.”
Gilbert ignored her.
“Tell Florence whose blood was on your hands.”
Florence stared at Mama Grace in disbelief.
“Mama Grace…”
“What is he talking about?”
The old woman began to sob uncontrollably.
“I never wanted this…”
“I never wanted any of this.”
Daniel spoke firmly.
“Don’t listen to him.”
“He’s trying to divide us.”
But Gilbert’s words had already planted a seed of doubt.
Florence looked at the woman who had raised and protected her for years.
For the first time…
She wondered if Mama Grace had been hiding more than the truth.
She wondered if she had been hiding guilt.
Outside, more police vehicles arrived, surrounding the house from every direction.
Blue and red lights flashed through the broken windows.
Gilbert realized his escape routes were closing.
His grip on Mama Grace tightened.
Then Peter spoke again.
His weak voice barely carried across the room.
“Florence…”
She rushed to his side, ignoring Daniel’s warning.
Peter struggled to lift his hand.
With trembling fingers, he reached into the lining of his torn jacket.
Everyone watched.
Slowly…
He pulled out a tiny folded piece of paper.
Not the silver key.
Just a note.
He pressed it into Florence’s hand.
“Don’t…”
“…let Gilbert…”
“…see this.”
Before Florence could unfold it, Peter’s hand fell limp.
His eyes closed.
“Mama Grace!” Florence cried.
“No…”
A paramedic who had just entered knelt beside Peter and checked for a pulse.
The room held its breath.
After several long seconds, the paramedic looked up.
“He’s alive.”
Relief swept through the room.
“He has a pulse, but he’s fading fast.”
The medical team immediately lifted Peter onto a stretcher and rushed him toward the waiting ambulance.
As the doors closed behind him, Gilbert’s expression twisted with fury.
Peter had survived.
That meant he could still talk.
Gilbert knew time was running out.
Without warning, he shoved Mama Grace aside.
She fell into Daniel’s arms.
Gilbert fired one shot toward the ceiling.
Bang!
The officers ducked instinctively.
Using the moment of confusion, Gilbert sprinted through the shattered back window.
“After him!” Detective Samuel shouted.
Officers poured into the darkness.
But Gilbert had vanished.
Only the sound of screeching tires echoed into the night.
The house fell silent once more.
Florence looked down at the folded note still clutched in her trembling hand.
Her fingers slowly unfolded it.
Inside, only six words were written in hurried handwriting.
The truth is inside Locker 27.
Beneath the sentence…
Someone had written a four-digit combination.
Before Florence could read the numbers aloud, every light in the house suddenly went out.
Her phone vibrated in the darkness.
An anonymous message appeared on the screen.
“If you open Locker 27… your children will die first.”
