The Dragon Queens Forbidden Mate

Awakening

After a few hours I started to feel tired and decided to go lay down. The tugging in my mind became a full blown pounding. Whatever was going to happen is going to happen soon.

I lay down for a quick nap and after about an hour of rest the pounding in my head worsened. I let out a groan. I’ve never felt a headache this horrible. I feel a stirring in my chest. All of a sudden a small spark appears between myself and the door. I try to call out but I can barely hear myself. There no sound. As if the spark was drowning all sound out. It begins to grow slowly gaining speed as it grows. Next thing I know a swirling black portal with purple edges and a bright golden ring on the outside is open and drawing me in. I scream out. Still no sound. Nothing in the room seems to be affected by this portal, except me.

Callum comes running in just as I’m pulled into the portal. I feel his hand reach in and grab me but the force of the pull is to strong and he falls in with me. The world disappears and darkness consumes us.

“Hey, Emberlyn, come on, wake up.” I blink the blurriness from my eyes and sit up with Callums help. We both look around and notice we are not in the hospital anymore.

“Where are we?” I ask him standing up to get a better view. We’re standing on a cliff overlooking a beautiful vast valley with an endless forest surrounding it. I feel different. Like there almost something magical about this place.

“I was going to ask you the same thing. I heard you scream but nobody else did. I went to check on you. I did not expect to see whatever that was.” He says. I can see the panic in his eyes just before he masks it with a look I can’t quite determine. “What happened in there? What was that thing Em?”

“I… I don’t know. I took a nap and when I woke up my head was pounding. A small spark appeared and it evolved into that portal. At first the progression was slow but after a couple minutes It blew open. I remember feeling you grab me.” TUG. There’s that tugging again. It’s stronger but not painful anymore.

A voice whispers in my mind. What the hell? Hello? Who are you? I try to reach out to the voice but no one responds.

“Em… this is really starting to freak me out. What is going on? Do you see that?” Callum snaps me out of my thoughts pointing to the field below us. In the field we see a big majestic unicorn. Yes I said unicorn. On its back is a person. They look ethereal. And if you look close enough you can see elf ears. An elf! “I’m imagining things. I must be. This can’t be real can it? It’s all a dream.” He starts rambling to himself. We hear a loud woosh and the unicorn sprouts wings and takes off.

“An alicorn! Callum can you believe it! That’s a freaking alicorn! Amazing!” I marvel at the beautiful creature as it flys away.

“No! Em, I can’t believe it. This is all to crazy! What the hell is going on?!” He yells at me. He’s looking around like he’s trying to find something.

“Look Callum. I’m freaking out too! I’m just trying to make the best of our situation! I don’t understand what happened but I’m trying to keep a level head because panicking won’t get us anywhere okay!” I yell back. A sharp pain starts emanating from my temple and when I look down I see my hands have a faint purple glow. “Umm… Callum? I think something is happening.”

“What do you… holy s**t Emberlyn your glowing! What the hell? Your eyes are purple! How are you doing that?” His eyes are locked on mine and he looks scared. Not for himself but for me.

“I don’t know! I… I’m scared. What’s happening to me?” The glowing dies down but I can see the reflection of my eyes in his and they’re still a vibrant purple.

“I’m here now. It’s nice to meet you Emberlyn. I’m Kona.”

“Who are you? How do you know my name?” I ask aloud to the voice in my mind. Callum gives me a weird look.

“What do you mean Em? Who are you talking to?” He asks.

“My dear you can speak to me in your mind.” I hear a dog like laughter come from her. “I am your wolf. It’s so nice to finally meet you. The goddess wouldn’t allow me to come to you at 16 like I was supposed to. You are from this realm and the magic in the realm you grew up in was to weak for me to be with you.” My wolf? What does that mean? “You will shift soon Em. You have to be prepared. It’s going to hurt but only briefly and only the first time. If you don’t have a change of clothes I would suggest you take them off first. I’ll let you know when it’s time.” She smirks at me. Relishing in the embarrassment to come with stripping in front of Callum.

“Um… Callum… I need you to not freak out. I’m about to tell you something that I’m having a hard time believing myself.” I look at him with wide eyes. Now terrified of what’s to come.

“Okay Em. I’ll try my best.” He responds calmly.

“I think I might be a werewolf? I mean that’s what Kona is saying at least. She says she’s my wolf and I’m supposed to shift for the first time soon. She also said I’m from this realm. Whatever that means. Callum I’m scared.” He takes a deep breath staring deeply into my eyes and then responds. Shocking me to my core.

“Emberlyn… my “wolf”, Braxton, said the same thing to me. This is to weird. Is this really happening? We need to find a safe place before we dig any deeper into this. Shelter before it’s to dark. By the looks of the sun id say we have about 4 hours to find a place before it gets dark.” His wolf? He has the same thing?

I can’t help but notice that ever since Kona came to me things are brighter and more vibrant. I can hear the rustle of the grass as a bunny hops around a few yards away. I shouldn’t be able to hear that. Even more strange is the increased attraction I feel toward Callum. What was a teenage crush before was becoming something more. His rustled hair hanging in his face making him look even sexier. I need to focus on something else. Take my mind off of him.

Callums pov

Emberlyn was lost deep in her thoughts for a while. While I was staring out into the field below us a sharp pain emanated from my temple and a deep voice echoed in my mind

“Hello Callum, My name is Braxton. I’m your wolf. It’s nice to finally meet you.” The voice says.

“Wolf? What do you mean?” I think back to the voice.

“You’re a werewolf. I was supposed to come to you when you turned 16 but the magic on the realm you were in was to weak. The goddess wouldn’t allow it. But I’m here now. You were born in this realm and transported to earth. I’m here now though. You’re going to shift at midnight tonight. The first time is painful but after that it’s easy as pie.” He says back. My mind is reeling. Emberlyns shaky voice brings me out of it.

“Um… Callum… I need you to not freak out. I’m about to tell you something that I’m having a hard time believing myself.” She says trying to take deep breaths. Her gaze giving away her fear.

“Okay Em, I’ll try my best.” I try to remain calm. After having a conversation with my “wolf” I’m a little freaked, but she needs me to be calm.

Whatever that means. Callum I’m scared.” I stand there shocked while she rambles. I didn’t know if I hear her right or not. She’s trusted me enough to tell me despite not really knowing me. So I did what I thought was best and told her too.

Emberlyn POV

After a couple hours of searching for a place to rest we found a decent sized cave in the forest. Callum went out to find firewood and pine needles leaving me alone with my thoughts. I find a large flat rock in the back of the cave against the wall and sit to think.

How is this happening? Better yet what is happening? I’m worried about this “first shift” my wolf told me about. My wolf. That feels weird to say but also somehow right. “Kona” I reach out to her in my mind.

“Yes Em?” She responds almost instantly. Shocking me.

“I’m sorry I started freaking out. This is all so strange. I’m not used to having someone else living inside my head.” I confess to her.

”Dear it’s fine.” She laughs in my head. “Part of me being in your mind allows me to hear some of your thoughts and feel what you feel. When we’re in wolf form it’s the same thing. You go into your mind and can hear what I think. We can feel each others feelings always.” She says. I realize she’s right. I can feel her amusement at my confusion.

“Can you tell me more about my first shift?”

“Of course Em. Your first shift happens at midnight during the first full moon after your birthday. Since your birthday is on a full moon you will shift at midnight tonight. Callum turned 18 on Earth so he never shifted during his first full moon so he will also shift tonight. It will be painful but it will only last a few minutes. Once you shift you’ll come into your full power as a wolf and be able to sense your mate!” She states in excitement.

“Mate? What is that?” I ask her confused. What is a mate?

“Silly. A mate is your soulmate. The person who completes your soul. Bonded to you and chosen for you by the moon goddess. They are supposed to love you unconditionally. You will be their sun, moon, and stars and they will be yours.” I can feel the love and longing rolling off her in waves. She’s excited to meet her mate. I guess I should be too but it’s all so new.

I’m snapped out of my thoughts by Callum. I was so engrossed in my conversation that I didn’t see him come back or even light the fire. He walks over to me and places a hand on my shoulder giving me a small shake to bring me back.

“Hey. Where did you go?” He says laughing. “I’ve been trying to talk to you for a few minutes.”

“I was talking to Kona. My wolf. I wonder what she looks like.” I’m still a little lost in my thought while I talk to him. We decide to try and rest a bit before the shift starts. It’s a restless night for me.
