Something stirring

1010 Words
Emberlyn Beep, beep, beep. What happened? What is that sound? I can’t open my eyes. They’re too heavy. I hear a door slide open then close again and someone start to talk but I only pick up pieces of it. “Critical… not wake… time… rest” That’s all I hear before the darkness takes over again. When I wake up I’m in a cave. What am I doing here? How did I get here? I have no control over my body and I start to move deeper. I feel confident. Like I know exactly what I’m doing. A door opens to a wide room made of polished stone. When I enter a crowd of people now to me. Why would they bow “My queen, Arendaya is ready for you” suddenly a massive black dragon lands in front of me. I want to flinch. To run and hide. But I don’t. Instead my hand reaches up to touch it, adorned in beautifully crafted silver and gems. “Hello my beautiful friend. I’m glad to see you’re okay. You took quite the hit” “Dragons recover fast mother.” The dragons voice rings in my mind. I can’t make sense of any of it. Then I hear another voice in the back of my mind. One that feels like it’s a piece of myself. “She still calls us mother. I hope she never stops.” The voice says happily. “Of course she does Kona, we only raised her” I reply in my mind. All of the sudden the woman from before speaks. “Wake up! You can’t awaken yet. A few more days and you’ll know the truth my dear. But for now, wake up!” I shoot up short of breath. Like the air was torn from my lungs. I’m in the hospital? The monitor starts beeping faster and my heart starts beating quicker. What happened to me? Doctors rush in checking my vitals and injuries. My head is pounding. “My baby girl you’re awake! Don’t you ever scare me like that again. I though I’d would be burying my daughter days before her 18th birthday.” My dad comes in crying and hugging me. He looks like he hasn’t slept in days. “What do you mean dad. My birthday isn’t for a few months. What happened?” “Oh honey. You were in an accident. The doctors said you may never wake up. You’ve been asleep for almost 3 months. Your birthday is in 2 days. You had us all scared. Cindi, Toni, and that Callum kid have been coming in every day to sit with you.” My dad says. “What do you mean I’ve been in an accident? I remember taking my phone out and texting you, but I don’t know what happened after that.” I’m confused. I don’t think I stopped in the road. “Well, peanut, Callum said that when you stopped to text me Cindi saw a truck speeding towards you. She tried to yell out but it was too late. Callum looked up when she yelled and saw the truck. He said it was big and black. Claims that it looked to be a deliberate hit and run. He thinks whoever was driving had every intention to cause serious damage.” He explains. My head is spinning. Someone tried to kill me? “Do the police know who did it?” I asked, taking a deep breath. I have an idea who. The description of a big black truck is almost enough to tell me that Amy was behind this. I’ve seen that truck more times than I’d like to. I caught her and Matt making out by that truck in the school parking lot. That’s how I found out he was cheating. I did make her pretty mad that day by interrupting her attempts to flirt with Callum. She’s still with Matt. They deserve each other. Something inside me stirs with anger at the thought of her getting close to Callum. I don’t know why it makes me so mad but it does. I know it shouldn’t as I have no claim to him. We barely spoke up until the day I got hit. “Unfortunately not. They’ve been beating around the bush. I doubt they even really looked into it all that much.” He says breaking me out of my thoughts. Visibly getting more and more annoyed. His posture shifts from relaxed and relieved to rigid and tense in seconds. Judging from the look in his eyes he’s angry. I can’t say I blame him. The lack of police involvement doesn’t surprise me. Amy’s dad is Chief Turner, the chief of our cities police force. Amy is his perfect little princess. If she does anything wrong, apparently including potential attempted homicide, he will do everything in his power to cover it up instead of holding her accountable. “You look tired peanut. Get some rest. I’ll make sure the others are here when you wake up.” Dad says with concern lacing his voice. With that I drift off into a restful sleep. When I wake up Tone is sitting next to the bed smiling. “About time you came to.” He engulfs me in a big hug, careful not to squeeze to hard. “You had us so worried Lyn. We thought you were going to die. Cindi called me as soon as she could to tell me what happened. She feels like it’s her fault for not warning you sooner.” “Oh poor Cindi. Where is she? This was not her fault at all. I think I know who did it though. Can you have Cindi and Callum come in. I’ll explain everything I know and think I know to you guys.” Tone leaves the room to grab them. I want to cry. Cindi thinks it’s her fault I’m here. There’s no way she could have known or said anything any sooner to prevent it.
