My 18th birthday is tomorrow. After Tone came back with Cindi and Callum I explained everything about Amy and the history between us. Callum didn’t know the whole story. He only knew I was upset that day and she had something to do with it. Cindi only knew that we weren’t exactly on good terms. I had to plead with Callum and Tone to not do anything. They would likely be hurt in the end. After a full day of just hanging out and talking everyone went home knowing I was healthy and safe.
The doctors want to keep me in the hospital until they are sure I don’t take a turn for the worse. Because of this my family received permission to they me a small birthday party in the cafeteria tomorrow. Not how I wanted to spend my 18th birthday but we’ll make due with what we have.
I went to bed feeling restless. I had another dream. Someone was calling out to me. It was a voice I barely recognized. Like I had heard it in a dream before. It wasn’t the same person that visited me and told me to wake up. But I know them from somewhere. I felt a tug in the back of my mind. I could feel someone trying to break through a barrier. One that I never knew was there.
I woke up feeling more exhausted than when I went to bed. The constant tug in my mind prevented a restful sleep. I could still feel it getting stronger. This was going to be a long day.
The door bursts open with a loud BANG causing me to scream. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMBERLYN!” Everyone rushes in to give me birthday wishes and a hug.
“Alright, alright. Thank you guys!” I smile at them. Even though I’m in the hospital recovering they still want to celebrate with me. It warms my heart how much they love and care about me.
“Alright boys! Out! I have to get Em ready for her party.” Cindi shoos the guys out and brings out a beautiful lavender color, mid thigh length dress. It has a black corset style midsection and flares out a little at the bottom. “What do you think? I though the light purple would bring out the light blue of your eyes. Besides, I know lavender is your favorite color.” She is bouncing on her toes in excitement.
“I love it Cin. It’s beautiful.” I say marveling at the dress.
“Alright. Go put this on and I’ll set up my hair and makeup stuff.” She all but shoves me into the connected bathroom. I try on the dress and it fits perfectly. I somehow managed to retain my curves despite being in an almost three month coma. It hugs all of them perfectly showing off my small waist and wide hips.
When I come out, Cindi is sitting on a chair waiting for me to start hair and makeup. She gets started immediately making me sit on the bed. The makeup is light with a soft pink lip, light blush, soft purple eyeshadow to match the dress, small winged eyeliner, and mascara. Then a he curls my hair pining a few strands back.
“Alright girlie. All done. What do you think?” She asks with a bright smile on her face.
“I love it Cin. You really are a wizard with hair and makeup. You should go to school for it.” A light blush covers her face. She gives me a sad look and is about to respond but I cut her off. “I know you don’t believe it but I’m serious. You are amazing at this. Imagine what you could do with professional knowledge and training. Think about it okay?” She just nods he head and we head to the cafeteria together.
The cafeteria is decorated with balloons, confetti, and streamers which a big banner that reads “HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY” is big bold letters. My dad and friends are all surrounding a table with trays of food and a 2 tier cake in the center.
“You guys, this looks amazing. You didn’t have to do all this.” I marvel at all the effort they put in to decorating. “Thank you!” I said walking around to give everyone hugs.
When I get around to my dad he gives me a tight hug. “I thought we were going to lose you peanut. You deserve the best celebration not just because you’re 18 now but because you survived. You pulled through and that alone deserves a celebration.” I hear a small sob escape him.
“Hey, pappa, I’m okay. See?” I pull back from him so that he’s looking at me. “I’m alive and I’m okay. I’m not going anywhere. I love you dad.” I tell him hugging him again.
After about an hour of food and laughter Callum pulls me aside. “How are you doing Emberlyn? Are your injuries okay?” He asks looking over me and wincing when he sees the bruise on my shoulder.
“I okay Callum, really. Nothing I can’t handle. Are you okay? I kind of remember seeing you after the truck hit me. I’m sorry I didn’t ask sooner. That couldn’t have been all that fun of an experience.”
“I’m holding up. I just have a weird feeling. Something feels off. Like I know in the back of my mind that something is about to happen. I just don’t know what. I can’t figure it out.” Heel looks at me with worry and concern. Could he be feeling the tug that I do?
“Hey, it will all be okay. Whatever is about to happen we’ll all get through it. Okay? Everything with be fine. I know it.” I try to reassure him. Although I don’t actually know if everything is going to be okay. I can only hope.
