I could feel him pacing within me, clawing at the edges of my consciousness as if trying to break through. “Go to her,” he growled. I clenched my jaw, trying to focus on the documents spread across my desk. “Not now,” I muttered. “She needs you,” he persisted, voice echoing in the back of my mind. “She’s just a prisoner,” I snapped under my breath. My wolf snarled. “She’s your mate.” The pen in my hand snapped in two. I inhaled sharply, forcing air into my lungs. I couldn’t keep doing this… arguing with him every day, pretending not to feel the pull that had begun the moment I laid eyes on Paedyn Nova. She wasn’t supposed to matter. She was supposed to be a pawn, leverage, a way to draw Stefan out.
