I stood by the window, watching the moon dip behind the trees like it was trying to hide from something it couldn’t explain. I wasn’t in the mood for games or company, but this couldn’t wait. So I sent for Kai.
He came in minutes later, sharp as ever, always alert, always watching… always scanning for danger.
“Did anyone follow you?” I asked, still facing the window.
“No,” he said slowly. “Why? Were you expecting someone to follow me?”
“Did Paedyn see you?”
Kaeya raised a brow. “No. She didn’t. You want me to lock the door?”
I nodded. He crossed the room and clicked the door shut, then turned to me, arms folded.
“Yoy look really troubled, and that's unlike you. What is this about?”
