Peace or a trap?
Cardan’s summons came faster than expected…
Too fast, if I was being honest.
The guard barely said a word when he appeared at my door. “The Alpha wants to see you.”
His tone was flat, but I could see the tightness around his mouth, almost like he knew whatever was coming wasn’t just another casual command.
By the time I walked into Cardan’s chamber, the air was thick, heavy with that quiet dominance that always surrounded him. He was by the window, facing the open valley, his back straight and hands clasped behind him.
“Alpha,” I said, bowing slightly.
He didn’t turn immediately. Just stood there, watching the horizon as if it held all the answers he’d ever need. Then, finally… “Kai,” he said, slow and deliberate. “You’ve served me well over the years.”
