Marie's POV
The trees were passing by in a blur. I can feel the sun shining on my face and the wind blowing around my hair. My mom is in the passenger seat with her window rolled down and her feet up on the dashboard, singing along to music on the radio. This nightmare starts the same every night. Daddy had come home about a week after my fifth birthday and had decided we needed to move. Everything we owned was in the back of the car. "How do we keep her safe, love?" My mother asked. I could hear the worry in her voice.
"We do everything in our power to keep her safe, even if that means leaving our pack to protect her." He replied while kissing the back of her hand he was holding. You could hear the love and determination in his voice. "He will never get his hands on our baby."
In the blink of an eye, the bright blue sky was now so dark, there was an eerie feeling in the air and suddenly there was a loud squeal that seemed to linger in the air. Bright lights shine on the side of the car right before the force of the collision makes me hit my head on the window and everything goes black.
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Not again. I should be waking up in Hawaii, on my honeymoon, not in a hospital bed the day after my wedding. Wait, a hospital? Elizabeth would never allow me to go to a hospital.Who brought her here? Elliot! The Wedding! The voice! Everything came crashing back to me. My husband has been drugging me, I'm apparently a werewolf according to the voice I've been hearing, and the dream! I have the same dream that terrorizes me every night, but I have never been able to hear their voices! Why were they protecting me? Who were they protecting me from?
Good morning,Marie." Astrid paused for a second, not knowing how to speak with her without frightening her again. I know what you heard yesterday, and I know you have a ton of questions, and I promise I will answer all that I can for now.
I couldn't hold back. So I wasn't hallucinating, you're real, I'm in the hospital because my husband has been drugging me, and there's a huge possibility I could some day actually transform into a wolf. I was spirilng.
Breathe, Marie. Listen to me and feel the light inside of you. I didn't know what she had done, but I just tried to push everything out of my mind and soon I felt a warm ball building up in my stomach. I let it take over me and I realized it was calming me. It is called shifting. We will shift one day into my form. Something has been holding me back from coming forward and connecting with you before. The wolfsbane that he was talking about is something that is given to a werewolf so that they can not reach their wolves or link up with their pack members.
Shifting. We will be shifting. That is great. What am I supposed to do now? I think it would be wise of us to pretend that we do not know anything. I have been resting because it takes a lot to suppress a wolf like me and I still need to strengthen up more, but I've healed enough to heighten our senses and we will just be careful from now on, since we know where he puts it. We need to listen and plan a way to get out of here. They will not know about our hearing and smell, they wont know when we can hear. Wow. I want to be scared. I should have been scared but the ball of light in my belly was keeping me calm and comforting me. I want to trust this voice and I'm starting to actually think I'm crazy.
I will always be with you now. We shouldnt have been away for so long. I'm sorry I wasn't there. She sighed in my head before continuing. Our life should never have been like this. I've waited for you for a very very long time.
What do you mean a long time? I asked, wanting to get to know her and also out of curiosity.
Mother Selene, as most people here know as The Moon Goddess, has been waiting for an Alpha to be born that is powerful enough and his pack strong enough to be able to keep us safe. Werewolves are born with another half of their soul that we can find when we turn eighteen. We are called mates. We need to find him and he can help us. But first we need to pretend to be the loving wife they are expecting to have while we come up with a plan.
It was official, she was crazy. She was listening to the random voice in her head. Nothing weird about that. You will understand soon, Love. Now, let's wake up and find a way to find our mate!
I opened my eyes slowly, letting them adjust to the blinding light above the bed I was on. For being in a hospital bed, I don't think you could get any more comfortable. I tried to talk but all that came out was a strangled groan.
"Oh thank goddess, you are awake!" Elliot ran to my side. Concern and even a small hint of guilt on his face as he passes me a paper cup of water.
"Thank you. What happened? Why am I in the hospital?"
"We got in the limo and you just passed out before we even got out of the parking lot. I didn't know what happened to you."
"Did they figure out what was wrong? Am I sick?" Pretending like I didn't hear anything.
"Well," He began, nervously chewing on his bottom lip. "I will explain everything once we get you back to our apartment,"
