Chapter 4.

*Lottie* It’s time, I tell myself, as I descend the staircase. As I reach the bottom I am met with my parents and the Alpha family. They greet me but I am lost in the smell that hit me earlier. I spin around until my eyes land on Aaron, the future Alpha of Silvermoon Pack. I internally gasp.  When did he get back to the pack, I questioned myself. He had been gone for over two years to go study at some prestigious Alpha school. He had grown up since then. He was almost 6’3, dark curly hair that hung low on his forehead, and his piercing green eyes. He looked handsome and had an authoritative aura around him.  I couldn’t help but notice that his piercing gaze rested at me. I felt my cheeks heat up slightly. What the hell? I don’t know why he is staring at me, of all people.  Before I could overthink the situation any further my father interrupts. “Charlotte, it’s time.”  I glance at the rest of the room. I take a shaky breath as we head to the backyard. The sun is about to set and I am about to shift into my wolf. According to everyone that has shifted, it will be quite painful at first, but after I will be one with my wolf. I breathed out an excited laugh. It was time! Once we are in the backyard, my mother comes and grasps my hands. “Lottie, it will hurt, but stay strong. You can do this,” she says as she grasps one of my hands and moves a piece of my hair away from my face. I smile at her. She looks like my older sister, more than my mother. She has blue eyes, where mine are turning gold, but she has the same blonde hair and tan skin.  “Thank you mom. I’m excited.” “I know sweetie. I was the same way when I was your age,” she laughs at the end of her sentence and then steps away.  It’s time, the sun is setting. The group steps back in a large circle around me. The Alpha and Luna look at me and smile encouragingly. My dad gives me a dorky thumbs up and a big smile. Being his only child, we are very close. I giggle and shoot him a thumbs up in return.  I turn and my gaze finds Aarons. As soon as our eyes meet I feel it start. First it starts with a couple pops in my hands. I gasp as the pain starts to build up my arms and reaches my back. I start to scream as my spine feels as though it’s ripping apart. I collapse but never reach the ground, because a large set of hands catch me. I look up and see Aaron. I am in too much pain to be confused by the situation and continue screaming. *Aaron* When Lottie’s eyes reach mine I can tell that she has begun the shift. All too soon she starts screaming. I flinch. My wolf starts to scream at me. “Go to our MATE. HELP HER.” Without thinking I run to her as she starts to collapse. I hear my dad yelling and her parents question what I’m doing. I turn and growl, “She’s MINE!” Everyone looks shocked. They all realize what I mean. My dad looks deadpan, but my mother is all smiles. Lottie’s parents are too focused on their daughter to react at the moment. I look down at my sweet mate. She is almost done. I start whispering to her, “Lottie you are almost done. Hold on. You are strong, you’ve got this.” Since when was I such a supportive person? I have always been quite rough to people and when I train my warriors. All of the sudden the screaming stops and a beautiful golden wolf is in front of me. I take a sharp breath in. Lottie’s wolf was stunning. I had never seen anything so powerful.  She stood up and slowly stretched out her hind legs, like a sleeping cat would. Then she walked around in a slow circle, looking down at her paws.  All of the sudden her eyes snapped up and landed on me. She jumped forward, and barreled into me. I stumbled back laughing and started petting her. She figured it out. She figured out that I am her mate!
