Chapter 1.

*Lottie* A loud yawn escaped my mouth as I stretched the sleep from my limbs. I wish I could stay in bed for a few more minutes of sleep, but today I turned 18. I finally was going to shift and potentially find my mate.  I rolled over to my bedside table and grabbed my phone. I already had a text from Blair.  “Happy Birthday Lottie!!! Come find me before class!!! :)” She always made sure to celebrate my birthday in the biggest way possible, knowing that my parents, Beta’s of our pack, would not have enough time to dedicate a whole day for me.  Once I had responded to Blair, I shuffled out of bed to hop into the shower. After my shower I looked at the fogged mirror and saw that my eyes had started shifting from grey to a sparkling gold. Once a werewolf turns 18, their eyes start to take on the color of their wolf’s eyes. Just the sight of my new eyes, I felt my chest bubble with excitement. I quickly dried my wavy blonde hair and threw it into a neat braid. Once I made it to my closet, I tossed on a pair of dark jeans and a baby pink blouse that complimented my tan skin. As soon as I had my shoes on I skipped down to the kitchen of the pack house. My pack was quite large, with a population of 1,200 warriors. We are called The Silver Moon pack, because of how the large moon appears silver on the water of our large lake. Our territory extended for miles and the lake was in the center. When someone stands in the backyard of the packhouse there is a wonderful view of the lake.  The pack house was bustling with activity. The omegas had started serving breakfast at 6am so that our warriors could eat before patrols. I arrived about 7:30am so there were only teenagers and women eating breakfast before school. I grabbed some french toast and berries and made my way to my table. Since my parents were Betas, I sat at a table reserved for the Alpha’s family, Beta’s family and the third in command. To my disappointment, only Tyler was at the table. He was our third’s son and had a nasty habit of starting fights. I sat as far away from him as I could and kept to myself. He did not even bat an eye towards me as I sat down.  As I ate, a few pack members came up to wish me a happy birthday. I graciously thanked them and hurried to eat before school. Once I finished, I ran out to my car and headed to Woods High School.  When I pulled in, I saw Blair waving at me from the school steps. We only had a couple weeks left until we graduated and officially started our jobs at the pack. Blair’s family ran a restaurant and boutique in our territory, so she would soon start training to take over one of the family businesses. I, on the other hand, would be moving into patrols when I graduated. I have been training hard and would soon start training my wolf after I shifted tonight.  I jumped out of my car and ran up to Blair. From behind her back, she revealed a yellow gift bag. I laughed and gave her a huge hug. “Happy Birthday Charlotte,” she screamed in my ear, “Please open it!” “Of course I will open it, but let’s get inside before the mass of students trample us.” We headed inside with our arms linked and laughing at the crazy energy that the last few weeks of high school brings. Once inside, I grab the yellow bag from Blair. “Please tell me you didn’t go overboard?” I question as I start to pull on the tissue paper. “Me? Overboard? I would never,” dragging the last word. “I always get you tasteful gifts that suit the occasion,” Blair giggles.  I finally pulled out a little velvet box and opened it. Inside was a beautiful tear drop shaped gold pendant. Blair was not wrong, she did get me the most tasteful gifts. “I gasped and threw my arms around her. “I love it! It’s beautiful Blair,” I cried into her. “I knew you would love it. And it even matches your eyes which is an extra bonus! By the way, I will be there at sunset for your first shift!” she squealed. I rolled my eyes. “Blair I was there for your first shift, so of course you will be there for mine.” She giggled knowing that we had been planning our first run together since we were 5.  The bell sounded for class and both of us groaned. “I will see you at lunch, birthday girl,” as Blair ran towards her first class. I turned and headed towards my first class, when I caught a whiff of cinnamon and dark chocolate. It was mesmerizing!  I spun around to see where it was coming from, but it disappeared as quickly as it came. I stood in the hallway, dumbfounded, until a teacher scolded me to get to class. As I sat in class that day, I could not shake the butterflies that were doing marathons in my stomach.
