Chapter 5: Haunted by the scent

That scent… Where on earth is that coming from? 12 midnight it started, when I woke up it was there, during the David accident it was there. The closer I got to my house the stronger it got. Where is it coming from? It was addicting. I wanted to know so bad. I was meters away from the door, I started to hear conversations from the inside. The voices started to become more distinct when I got to the patio. “She has been quiet all day, you think she has no wolf?” my mother asked her tone and sounded awfully concerned “she has a wolf alright” my dad replied followed by a chuckle. “Why are you laughing?” my mother asked. “Because, just this afternoon, he almost broke David’s neck” dad replied, “SHE WHAT?” that concern turned into frenzy almost “Is he okay, where is he? I hope he’s doing well” my mom was frantic at the news which broke me to be honest. She was never that worried about me. “He’s fine, I’d say he deserved it, Angela said so too” Gamma Henry replied, “How on earth can you say that?” My mom asked, “He was in the wrong aunt Kate” Anthony answered, “How so?” my mom replied asking for clarification. “He did just say that she became a beta for the Alpha II unit because his father is the chief command officer and not because she was strong.” Gamma Henry answered, “HE SAID WHAT?” Now my mother is furious. This is the first time she has ever used that angry tone towards someone who hurt me. Most of the time that tone is reserved towards Louis. “Kate, he has already been punished enough.” A female voice mentioned “How?” my mom asked.

“Well, it all started when I got a call from Izzy saying that they needed help. And I thought to myself she was with Steph so what’s there to worry about, then she said it was David… so naturally I assumed something happened like a car accident or something. Then I heard Kaye in the background calling for Steph, I just alerted the entire unit that David managed to piss an 18-year-old she-wolf who just got her wolf.” Anthony explained “When we arrived, Steph was holding him by the collar near his bed of a car, with a smirk on his face. Ton managed to get through to her and calm her down a bit. But you know, despite how powerful his charm is that he has managed to calm me down, he never gets a hold on her. Uncle Henry did the same on his own still with very little luck. But both managed to get through to her.” Ethan added “You forgot the most important part. David managed to make even more angry that it broke through the charm and she through him 6 feet away.” Kyle added “She’s fast and strong. She got to him faster than any of us could blink and carried him near Anthony and Uncle Henry like he weighed nothing.” Andre joined in.

“How on heaven and earth did you punish him?” my mom asked “Well, he was no longer allowed to join the Alpha II unit, he will be training with the patrol unit and will never be allowed a higher position than 5th command patrol officer, His wolf is ceasing, did I fail to mention?” Alpha Charles explained. “Ceasing?” another female voice joined the conversation. “Yes, Zion managed to get through to Ulmer, he told him that David has become unhinged lately, he hasn’t been listening to a word he’s saying. It is rare for a wolf to give up on his human counterpart, but it seems to be the case with David.” Alpha Charles explained.

So that’s what Thena meant. ‘It is, he has been begging to end David before he is corrupted.’ Thena answered. ‘I must tell them’ I replied. I quickened my footsteps to reach the door Alpha Charles kept talking which made me slow them down. “Ulmer wished to for David to be ended or both he and David are corrupted.” Alpha Charles mentioned. Silence filled the room. “The last time this happened…” the female voice mentioned “Angela I know…” Gamma Henry replied.

Aunt Angela’s father and grandfather had their wolves corrupted after they went rogue. They have been killing and killing fellow rogues and pups alike. Humans or not. They became savages after corruption. “There must be... there...” Aunt Angela broke into a sob. “There is no way out of corruption. If we take his wolf away and become human, he will become a rogue who wishes revenge and we do not want another great war to ensue. If we keep his wolf, they might get corrupted, go rogue then go on a killing spree.” Alpha Charles replied. “Where is he now? David?” my mom asked “At home, he has been acting like my dad since he lost to Steph or at least that’s how he phrased it.” Aunt Angela answered. The entire group inside let out a big sigh.

“Speaking off, I think Stephy found her mate” Ethan mentioned trying to change the very heavy topic. “Mate?” Andre replied. It sounded like he was curious. And hold on… I found my mate. I don’t even know where he is or if he does exist. Where is Ethan going with this? “How so?” my dad asked. “Isn’t it a mate thing to have a distinct scent towards your mate?” Ethan continued “It is. Now that you mentioned it, that could be the case of her being quiet all day.” Dad added. “If indeed that’s the case, how come it came so early? She just turned 18 at the stroke of midnight when she mentioned that started smelling this good scent.” My mom continued “Most she-wolves find out about their mates during the presentation” The other female voice mentioned. “Elaine…” Alpha Charles called his wife “I know, I know, she is not like other wolves. But…” Luna Elaine agreed. Not like other wolves? How?

‘You are not like other wolves Stephanie’ Thena stated. ‘You can call me Stephy you know. But how am I different from other she-wolves?’ I asked her, "In time, Steph, you will know.”

“She’s coming” was the first time Louis spoke. I was already on the porch when he mentioned it. Louis did know me too well for him not to realize I arrived a couple of minutes ago and was just listening. The conversation about David took my mind off the scent but as soon as I got to the door the scent grew stronger and stronger. Once I opened the door, there they were. Alpha Charles, Luna Elaine, and Andre. My mom, dad, Ethan, and Louis. Gamma Henry, Aunt Angela and Anthony with Delta Jacob, Aunt Mia, and Kyle. They all looked at me like they’ve seen a ghost. I hate that look.

I took a deep breath only for the scent to take over my nostrils. It was intoxicating. I scanned across the room and stopped at Andre. I took one look at him, goddess, he was gorgeous. I don’t think I can say anything to that face. He had tan skin, his smile was ever so sweet, despite all the grandeur an alpha’s aura and demeanor can bring, he was good to me. He was one strong playmate I might add. Having to tell others that you had an alpha for a playmate must be one for the books. I grew up with Izzy and Kaye, but then again, we trained together. I had as much of a bond to him as I did them. His smell… his smell… that scent. It was intoxicating. Cinnamon, Strawberries, vanilla. It was him. It had to be.

‘Mate!’ Thena stood up and started wagging her tail and her ears in attention. ‘Who?’ I asked but I had one huge guess ‘You will love him’ Thena exclaimed. Could it be? Andre, the next alpha, was my mate?
