NIKOLAI Hunter did not respond to my question. Instead, he closed the gap between us in long strides, his hand already reaching for my jaw. His mouth was on mine before I could ask for anything else from him, and muscle memory took over, combining confusion and relief into one dizzying sensation as I kissed him back before reality snapped its teeth around me. Pulling away sharply, I raised my hand against his chest, pushing him back.
