AMARA
I was already at the second Harry Potter movie. I was enjoying this particular scene where Harry broke his arm during a quidditch match and this know-it-all professor, Lockhart attempted to heal Harry’s arm but made it into jelly. I always found that scene entertaining, Lockhart really still had the audacity to be confident about his stupidity. Not long after, I could feel that my wolf wasn’t at ease. At first, I tried to ignore it and brushed off the feeling but it got to the point where I couldn’t properly focus on watching the movie. Taryn was pacing back and forth at the back of my mind almost endlessly, what’s gotten her in a stir?
“Taryn….” I call her but no answer.
“Hey, Taryn… do you hear me?”
“Ame” She finally answers.
“What’s wrong? You seem a little tense.” I question her.
“I don’t know something is drawing me to go near it.”
“What is it?”
“I’m not, sure but I think I sense something.”
I tried to push her at the back of my mind, she was always so chill most of the time but today was something else. I did my best to just continue watching the movie, but still, it didn’t really affect how she was uneased and kept pacing; making me feel uncomfortable by the minute. I decided to finish the movie halfway and tried to find some other kind of activity that would help me get rid of the uncomfortable feeling. I went to the packhouses’ library to try and read books there since it helps me focus and meditate. I got there in no time, I walked fast enough to get there quickly. I was finally in another room where I could be isolated and hopefully relax. This was the only place that really had little to no visitors at all, most of the pack members would be at the recreation room playing games and whatnot, but I prefer to be alone surrounded by books. The smell of old paper and leather eases me.
The packhouses’ library was the most underrated room. It had a rustic décor, walls that were covered in bookshelves, pearl-colored marble floor, tall white windows that had a garden view, a fireplace with large bean bags near it, and a lot, I mean, a lot of books to choose from. Who wouldn’t go to a place like this?
I went to the history section and I took my time in choosing a book until I finally decided to read the history and origins of the werewolf. I sat on one of the bean bags, it almost hugged my whole body because of how tiny I was. Finally, I got really hooked on reading it, I was slowly feeling relaxed. The book talked about how the first family of werewolves existed and were found, shifting to human and wolf form, heightened strengths and senses when you gain your wolf, and werewolves’ natural enemies, the vampires. Feeling the warmth of the fire, the huge beanie bag hugging me, and as I was about to read the other parts of the book my eyes really got heavy. I was already reading the same sentence over and over again until I fell asleep while holding the book. I was knocked out.
BRIAN
I was fast asleep on the car ride; I heard my Gamma call me.
“I’m sorry to wake you up Alpha but we're almost at Yellow Moon.”
With that, I slowly opened my eyes and woke up from my short nap. As our car drove closer to Yellow Moon, I remembered why I just chose to sleep on the way, I could feel Alex getting more and more agitated, thirty minutes ago was bearable but now, it wasn’t anymore.
“Alex, what the hell is wrong with you today?” I got no response from him.
“Fine, whatever. Just don’t cause too much pain in the ass.”
I looked out the window trying to avert my attention to something else and saw how Yellow Moon had improved their territory since my last visit. As always, they had their thick and luscious forest surrounding the area, I saw a few wolves running around, some were playing, horsing around and some were just running through bushes and trees chasing small animals. Their packhouse is fairly big compared to Darkmoon. Alpha Liam has kept a really good reputation of leading Yellow Moon, alongside his Luna, Martine. Both of them were such accommodating and gracious people. I give nothing but my uttermost respects hoping that one day, I might rule Darkmoon just like them.
I saw Alpha Liam already waiting for me on the veranda near the entrance of their home from a close distance. As the car went to a stop, I got out, and immediately, I could feel my wolf in a frenzy, pacing around and whining like there’s no tomorrow. He usually isn’t like this; I tried my best to push Alex at the back of my mind, composed myself, and try to pay respects to Alpha Liam.
“Brian! it’s good to finally see you again after all these years. You’ve grown.” Alpha Liam welcomed me as I entered the Yellow Moon packhouse.
“Yes, Alpha Liam. It has most certainly been.”
“Let’s skip the formalities, Brian, our families have known each other for a long time! Just call me Uncle Liam.” He was right, he and my father were close friends before, so he was like an uncle to me. This is also the reason why both of our packs were allies.
The short meeting with Alpha Liam was grueling, Alex didn’t really keep his cool no matter how many times I tried to shut him off. For the past forty-five minutes, it was an internal s**t-show battle between me and my wolf. I kept getting distracted and my attention was divided between listening to Alpha Liam and shutting off my wolf. I was just really thankful that Alpha Liam and I were only discussing our pack's continued alliance and small partnership businesses that needed to be taken care of.
“That’s about it for our meeting, are you sure you don’t want to stay for dinner?” Alpha Liam insisted that I should stay and eat dinner before I go back to Darkmoon but I had a serious situation, internally.
“Thank you for inviting me Uncle Liam, but I’m afraid I have to pass. I still need to take care of other business I left off at Darkmoon.” I lied, I’m afraid if I get to stay another hour in this place, I don’t know what I would do anymore, I could feel that any second Alex might surface. This mutt has some serious explaining to do later.
“Well, that’s unfortunate, but I understand. Being an Alpha can be quite a demanding job.” He says to me while patting my back.
“I couldn’t agree with you more Uncle Liam,” I said trying to make the conversation shorter.
We both finally said our goodbyes, and I took this opportunity to talk with Alex whose been driving me crazy this whole afternoon. It was getting dark and I mind-linked Boe to pick me up in 20 minutes. I went down the veranda and walked to a nearby tree meters away from the packhouse; When I got there, I took a deep breath and tried to talk to Alex.
“What the hell is wrong with you today?” I said in an angry tone.
“Brian” Did he really just respond with my name? For goddess sake we’re Alphas and he’s acting like this.
“Brian what?” I said while pinching the bridge of my nose. He’s really giving me a headache.
Just as I was about to speak, a faint scent caught my nose and it immediately stirred both me and Alex, it smelled like vanilla with a hint of caramel and fresh flowers. I searched for the scent, it was getting stronger and stronger. I looked at every angle, in the forest I was facing, nobody was there. As I turned my whole body to face the packhouse, the tantalizing smell hit me with full force making my hairs stand up as I saw her slowly walking in front of me.
“Mate.”
“Mate.”
