Chapter Two "Marianna, that's so beautiful" Anna turned to looked at the bundle of colours on her bed and smiled . " oh thank you Sage, when did you wake up?" The bundle of colours stood on it's legs and shook her feathers as s if yawning. "A while aga, didn't want to interrupt you " It said and flew on to Anna's shoulder. Anna, carefully removed the beautiful bed from her shoulder and gently stroked it's feathers. She placed the bird back on to her shoulder and started to pack her painting tools. When she finished she went to lie down on her bed as the bird stood on her stomach. They remained that position for a while before Sage asked , "Marianna, did something happen?" "You could say that " Anna covered her face with her palms as she sighed. "What did the pair of devil's incarnate do to you?" Sage flapped her wing's angrily. " Calm down will you?. It's not necessarily them but they're part of it." Anna picked up Sage and nestled her into the crook of her neck. "It's Dad" "What did he do?" "He's getting me engaged to his business partner." " A contractual marriage? Why did the task fall on you? What about that devilish sister of yours?" " Sage, be polite. Anyway, Bervylyn refused, so now I have to do it " " I'm sure there's something fishy about this agreement. Why would your sister and stepmother let go of such a good opportunity? I mean the guy's got to be rich right?" " Yeah, I know. But it maybe good for us. He may not be so bad. We might have a chance at a good and happy life." She beamed a smile. " How childish you are." They continued to speak until they were called down for dinner. At the dinning room. Marianna was enjoying her meal until her father brought up her contractual marriage. "Anna, the engagement had been settled for this weekend, what do you think.." She couldn't help but to nod in consent as there was found in her mouth. She couldn't say no even if she wanted to. She knew the decision had been made and nothing the said was going to change it. Her father asking her, was nothing but a formality. After dinner, she quickly went into her room. One would say she's crazy for having high hopes for this contractual marriage. But she believed and trusted her Dad. Although her father never spoke much when her stepmother and sister ridiculed her, at least he always made sure they didn't go go overboard. Her stepmother had never raised a finger on her apart from the usual insults and nasty looks. He also made she had enough money in her account and has always trusted her books matter the accusations her stepmother and sister laid on her. She came to stay with her father and his family when she was ten years old. Then her mother had passed away from a strange ailment and she had nowhere to go. It was in her mother's deathbed that she found out she had a father. Apparently even her father didn't know she existed. Before her mother died, she made her father to come and then entrusted her into his care. At first she wanted to gate her father, nut the promise she made to her mother and her own heart didn't allow her. Her stepmother was furious and her Dad returned with her to their and stated hating her from then on. Maybe due to the fact that her father felt guilty for betraying her mother or because he felt that he owed for the 10 years he was absent in her life, he treated her with utmost care and love. Which aroused the jealousy of her sister and made her stepmother to hate her mother. Since young, Bervylyn would steal and destroy things and put the blame on her. She and her mother will make sure yo evidence in her room to incriminate her just make lose the love if her father. As time went on, it got worse. Bervylyn started to spread rumours about in the neighbourhood and school. She became an outcast amongst everyone and the object of scorn. She also became a bunching bag for her school mates to vent their anger. She'd never told any of these things to her father because she didn't want to be the reason for their family to break. Whenever her father isn't around, she's treated even worse than the maid's in the house. So even the the maids feel that their if more importance than her so even they don't respect her. They only out up a facade when her father is around. Her stepmother always make no matter what she does to her, no physicals marks are shown to serve as evidence. She has no plans to relay any of this to her father anyway. She's been brainwashed to the point that she feels that she deserves whatever they do to her. This is because if she hadn't turned up in their lives, none of it would had happened. So far she has no friends whatsoever. The one's who have enough courage to go against her sister who befriended her, all left her saying that she's weird. Her only friend since birth is Sage. Her mother gave Sage to her even before she learnt to walk. Up until has never known why but since she could remember, she had always been able to converse with Sage. Not only her, she's able to speak to other animals also. She asked her mother about it once when she was young, but she only said that it was a gift she has been blessed with through their family blood. She said she'll understand when she grows older. So it's no wonder that they said she's weird. She spent the rest of the week going about the neighbourhood trying to familiarize herelf with every nook and cranny. That were no alley ways in the neighborhood. The planning had been done meticulously. All the houses were in a linear pattern, walled, with a decoration of flowers in front. Upon entering, nobody would tell you that it's a place the well to do. They had two gyms, one at the East side and the other to the west. They had a large supermarket with all the goods one could ask for. There was also a four story building for clothes, shoes, jewellery and the like. There was also a school for kids in the neighborhood, from elementary to senior high. There were also a few restaurants and two five star hotel. It was a little city on it's own. The nouveau riche were found at the East side while crazy billionaires and business tycoons were at the West side. There were huge gates at both ends of the neighborhood, and one needed a pass before entry. Her favourite was not surprisingly the park. It had tall big which served as home for a lot of animals, there were abundants of games for the kids, a live theme area filled with flowers, tables and chairs. The air was refreshing. And because most people in the area were always busy, the atmosphere was quiet as well. The only problem was thatv the parks was at the west side whereas their house was at the east side.
