Sister Sue looked around the refuge’s meal hall. Sam wasn’t there again. She had never been absent for so long before. Since she had started volunteering, she had never stayed away longer than one or two days. Like clockwork, she would be there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, helping before she would ever help herself.
