CONTROVERSIAL LOVE

CHAPTER ONE

Shuffling between college and part-time jobs is all I do these days and it's so annoying.

“Clean up table ten” Evelyn shouted.

That's my boss but that's beside the point.

I just think about how miserable my life is every day. I also think about my mum and feel that she wouldn't be working so hard if my dad did not leave us with so much debt. Now we are about to lose the house to the bank.

I guess I have got to pick up more shifts. I just have to be careful so it will not affect my education.

Why is she still in school?

Well, I have to be because I don't want to be like this all my life. I need to get a degree and get a proper and good-paying job.

I want my mum to live a comfortable life shortly.

Oh f**k, I'm late for my online class.

“I need to leave, I'm already late for my class,” I told my somewhat nice boss.

She laughed “You can go but you look like a mess”.

“It does not matter, it is just an online class” I snort

With that, I dashed out to an Internet cafe.

I cannot afford a laptop, not with all the debts my mum and I are paying off.

“You are late Stone” the professor booms immediately I joined the class.

I wonder how he was able to spot that, there's like a hundred students taking his class.

“I'm sorry sir”

“Sorry for your self”

I ignored that and took out my notes from my bag to jot down some notes. No one dares to laugh cause that man is strict as f**k.

The class was done in an hour and I rushed out immediately because I had to get to a physical class in 30 minutes, luckily for me, the campus is not too far from here.

I started to run and after running for a while, I saw Kyle drive by, he saw me too but decided to pretend like I did not exist. He could have just offered me a ride because we are in the same department but I guess that's me being delusional cause I'm sure he does not even know who I am. Even if he does, he would not offer help because he is rude and arrogant.

I got to my class and luckily for me, the professor was just coming in. I sigh in relief. That was close.

I'm the second-best student in my department and Kyle is the first, I wonder how he does that because he is always at parties or hanging out with his gang. Weirdly enough, I have never seen him with a girl. I mean, he looks like every girl will shamelessly drop their panties for him. Whatever, it's not of my business. As for me, I'm not surprised because I have good genes. My mum is super intelligent even though she is dumb.

“Hazel”, Aurora calls in her low and intimidating voice. God knows that I love this girl, she is my best friend. She knows literally everything about me and does not judge me no matter what, she would always defend me no matter what.

I wonder what she is doing here because we are not in the same department.

“What are you doing here?” I inquired with my brow raised and eyes narrowed at her.

“I missed you so much”

Seriously?? She did not just say that. I know she is lying but I play along.

“Really?, I missed you too,” I said coyly

She snorts then laughs, “I'm not buying that”

“You started it first” I rolled my eyes.

“Ok, fine” “ I wanted to know if you would come with me to the party tonight,” she said under her breath but I could hear her, and I was sure she knew what my answer would be Now, that's why she sounds like that.

“You are such a party freak, I wonder how you are my best friend, we are complete opposites”

“Are you coming or not?” She said, annoyance evident in her voice.

“You already know what my answer would be”

“I know but a girl has gats to try”

I felt bad at this point, she invited me to literally everywhere but I don't have time for that because I'm packed with a lot of part-time jobs.

She's got class in ten minutes so we parted ways. I am done with my class for today so I am headed to my part-time job.

I brought out my phone and earphones so I could listen to music on my way to work and I suddenly hit a wall. I bit my lips in pain and looked up to see that I bumped into a person, not a wall.

“Watch where you are going i***t” a deep voice came. If it isn't Kyle f*****g Reyes, who else would it be. That guy is rude as f**k, I wonder how his friends tolerate him cause rumors have it that he is rude and grumpy to them as well.

Wait, did he just call me an i***t?

“You should also watch where you are going fool” I spat out with pure annoyance

What? He called me an i***t too. Besides, just because I'm polite does not mean I will let him insult me.

I did not even wait for his reply and left his presence. I have got better things to do than exchange words with him.

I got to work and changed into my uniform immediately. I have to be fast cause Claudia can be very picky and annoying.

The last thing I want to do is get on her nerves because she will deduct my pay and I need as much money as I can get right now. I need to round up as soon as possible because my mum will get home soon.

After work, I walked to the bus stop to get a bus. I was about to get in when I saw Aurora park behind the bus and usher me to get in. Well, that would save me some money I thought.

“You know you didn't have to come to pick me up”.

“Of course I do, I know you must be exhausted right now and you will still have to walk home because the bus won't exactly drop you in front of your house or would it?” She stated as a matter of fact .

“Thanks babe, I really appreciate”

“Anytime”, she waves dismissively.

We got to my house and she finds a space to park safely before letting me out. I sighed and walked in. Today was really stressful. But then again, everyday of my life is so I'm pretty much used to it by now.

I was greeted by my mum's back as I got in.

She signed “Good evening my princess, how was your day?”

“It was fine mum” I lied. If I told her it was stressful, she would be worried and that's the last thing I need right now cause my mum gets dramatic when she is worried and I am too tired for drama right now.

“Goodnight Mum” I yawned and went into my room.
