l entered the classroom, everyone was talking, so I just sat down. Then someone tapped me. When I looked behind me, it was Ethan.
"Why?" I asked.
"Hi, I'm Ethan Sherman. Sorry I didn't introduce myself yesterday," he said with a smile.
"It's okay, you didn't have to apologize," I said emotionlessly.
He smiled widely. "Why do you look like that? You're frowning so early in the morning?" Ethan said jokingly.
"Huh? I'm not, this is my normal face," I said seriously.
He laughed. "Seriously? You look like you've got a problem."
"I'm probably just tired from reviewing," I said listlessly.
"Huh? But class hasn't started yet!" Ethan asked in surprise.
"Advance studying. It's better to be prepared," I said.
Sir Polo arrived. He was our first-period teacher.
"Good morning, class. Today's lesson is about the history of the ocean. It's vast and full of mysteries, so let's explore what beneath the ocean's surface," Sir Polo said.
He started teaching, and I wrote down important details in my notebook. When I glanced at Zephyr, I shook my head, he was sleeping at his desk during Sir Polo's lesson. Even though Sir Polo noticed, he didn't care and continued teaching.
This guy is so annoying! It's only the first period, and he's already asleep. Just because he's the owner's son doesn't mean he can disrespect the teacher.
"Okay, can you tell me the definition of an ocean?" Sir Polo asked.
I immediately raised my hand.
"Yes... Hilton," Sir Polo called.
I stood up. "An ocean is a vast body of saltwater that covers most of the Earth's surface, encompassing interconnected seas, exhibiting a complex interplay of currents, tides, and diverse marine life, and playing a crucial role in regulating the planet's climate and supporting a significant portion of global biodiversity."
"Correct," Sir Polo said happily.
"Okay, so what's under the ocean?" Sir Polo asked again.
I raised my hand again.
"Other hands?"
No one raised their hand, so I kept mine up, but then Zephyr answered.
"The underwater world of the ocean is a vast and mysterious realm encompassing a breathtaking array of diverse ecosystems, from sunlit coral reefs teeming with vibrant life to the crushing depths of the abyssal plains where bizarre creatures thrive in perpetual darkness and extreme pressure, all interconnected by intricate currents and a complex food web supporting an astonishing biodiversity." Zephyr answered.
I was surprised. I thought he was asleep and not listening. He smirked at me before going back to sleep. Was that a taunt? This guy is so annoying. His answers are so much better than mine, and it looks like he didn't even study.
Our next class was Science, and we went to the science lab where Sir Polo was our teacher.
"Okay, guys, now that you're all seated, we're going to do a simple experiment. You'll need a partner, and your partner will be the person sitting next to you," Sir Polo said happily.
I was shocked. When I looked, Zephyr was sitting next to me. We both raised our hands simultaneously.
"Yes?"
"Can we... have different partners?" I said.
"I don't want him as a partner."
"Me neither," I said sarcastically.
"No," Sir Polo said quickly.
"What?! You're not listening to me!" Zephyr said angrily.
"Tss, spoiled brat," I muttered.
"Look, in this school, we treat all students equally. Whether you're the owner's child or the president's child, you're still a student, and I'm your teacher," Sir Polo said seriously to Zephyr.
Wow! That was cool. It was satisfying to see him lose.
I smiled triumphantly, even though I didn't do it myself. It felt like he lost.
*Clap*
"Okay, class, listen carefully, and you'll do the same."
After Sir Polo explained the procedure, we started the experiment. Everyone worked well with their partners, but we didn't. Thankfully, we were almost finished, with only one drop of liquid left. I picked up the pipette and was about to drop it when Zephyr stopped me.
"What?" I said angrily.
"Let me do it. You might drop it incorrectly, and it could explode," he said.
"Why do you think I can't do it?" I said angrily.
"Yes, give it to me," Zephyr said seriously.
"I'll do it, I can handle it."
"Tss, you're so stubborn. I said I'll do it."
We fought over the pipette. I accidentally stumbled, and he suddenly let go of my hand, causing me to lose my balance and fall to the floor. Thankfully, our experiment didn't fall. He prioritized holding the experiment over me.
"V, are you okay?" Gwen asked worriedly.
"Yes," I answered. Ethan helped me up. I glared at Zephyr angrily.
"It's your fault! You weren't careful, and it almost fell. It's a good thing I caught it," he said.
"Wow! Thanks. You prioritized that over me!" I said seriously.
"Both of you, stop it. You didn't work as a partner, so this happened. I want you to repeat the experiment," Sir Polo said seriously.
We had no choice but to repeat the experiment. While others left, we were left alone in the science lab. We didn't speak, we just continued working.
Without looking, I reached for a test tube, but I grabbed something else. When I looked, it was his hand, also reaching. We stared at each other for a few seconds before pulling our hands away.
l focused on my work, but because of the silence, I could hear my own heartbeat. I stopped working, took a deep breath, and held my chest, calming myself down.
"What's wrong with you?" he suddenly asked.
"Nothing, let's finish this. I'm hungry," I said.
When Sir Polo approved, we left the science lab. It was break time, so I went to the cafeteria, where I saw Gwen and Ethan together. After buying food, I sat next to Gwen.
"How was it?" Gwen asked.
"We finished," I answered.
"You two are like cats and dogs," Ethan said.
"Yeah, you two seem to be competing," Gwen said.
"No, I'm just angry at him," I said, looking at my food.
"Why?" Gwen asked.
I remembered our first encounter in the rain, I thought I was going to die. But he just gave me a cold look. I didn't want to tell Gwen, she might tell my mom, and it would cause a big fuss.
"Nothing, I just don't like him," I said softly.
I don't like trouble. I'd rather stay quiet than cause a big commotion because my mom would be the one who gets hurt in the end.
