His Pain

Aeko's POV 

Ethan comes and kneels in front of me. He tries to lock eyes with me so I start to look around just to avoid eye contact with him. Ethan has those eyes where if he says anything to you while your eyes are locked, he can make you do whatever he wants. 

Ethan: I know you probably mad at me right now but I wanted to save the best for last

He gets up and goes over to the lady by our gate. They exchange a few words then she goes, I don't know where she went. After what seemed like forever, she comes back carrying a huge teddy bear. My mouth drops in surprise. Then immediately I start crying, did he really get me a teddy? He walks back to us then kneels again. 

Ethan: I remember you telling me that as a kid you never asked your dad to buy you any toys because you had specifically wanted a body sized teddy bear. I remember you said you cried for a week because he had forget to get it on your birthday and after that he fell sick. So I decided to get you this body sized teddy bear because, even though I never knew your dad, I'm sure he loved you and I'm sure he wanted you to have it just as badly as you wanted it. 

I just couldn't stop crying. I didn't know that he had listened so deeply to what I said. I couldn't find any words to express my gratitude so I just pulled him in for a tight embrace and cried on his shoulder. I think I've found a new best friend guys. For the first time in my life I have a male friend and he's also my best friend, but first let me confirm that with him. 

Me: Will you be my best friend?

Ethan: And here I thought I already I was

I just laugh in between my tears and Jayden wipes my face. He handed me the teddy and I just held on to it do tightly. I felt like Ethan had connected me to my dad again. Oh how I miss him. 

Jayden: Dude if you gonna be making my sister cry like this all the time then I might as well cancel Capetown 

Ethan: Don't worry, it will only be tears of joy

Me: Thank you Ethan. You have no idea what this means to me 

Ethan: Believe me, I know what it feels like to miss one's parents 

Then it struck to me that I don't know anything about Ethan. I am suck a bad friend. At that moment I made it my mission to find out everything about Ethan. Right from when he first cried down to his favorite juice . It is almost time to board our flight so we say goodbye to Jayden and start walking towards our gate. I stop, turn around and run to hug Jayden one last time. 

Me: I'm gonna miss you so much 

Jayden: I'm only one phone call away sis. Just call me when you need me and I'll come to the rescue 

Me: I love you so much 

Jayden: I love you too 

He kisses my cheek and let's go. I return back to where I had left Ethan. I pick up my bags then send Jayden one last smile before continuing with my walk. We board the plane then take our seats. I don't when I fell asleep but I'm woken by Ethan shaking me. We exit the plane and carry our bags inside.

After that whole process, we exit the airport and stop a cab to drive us to 22 Riebeek Street. We will be staying at a hotel called Raddidon Blu Hotel & Residence. We arrive at our destination and we exit the taxi and Ethan pays the fare. We enter the room and luckily for us, the fridge wasn't empty. I make a quick sandwich for us to eat then wash the dishes. 

Ethan: I'm going to go shopping, want to come with me? 

Me: No, I'll just stay here and look around the area

Ethan: Don't open the door for anyone then besides me ok? 

Me: Yeah I hear you, I won't 

Ethan: OK then. Go take a nap, I'll be back soon 

Me: Get me some pizza too

Ethan: LOL I definitely will 

Pizza has become a symbol of our friendship, I mean it is how we bonded. I lock the door then head towards my room. I sit on my bed and memories of Nadia and I being ecstatic about living together. I start crying then decide to call Jayden. 

Jayden: Hey little sis, how are you liking the place? 

Me: Jayden it's not fair. She promised that she would be my roommate and now I'm all alone. Why did she leave me Jayden? We were going to sleep together today. We were going to shower together. We were going to explore Capetown and get lost together but now I can't do any of that. She didn't keep to her promise Jayden and I'm all alone

Jayden: Hey hey don't say things like that. Look, I know that was not what you guys had planned. I mean I miss her just as much as you do. She was the love of my life, but things just didn't go our way. We can't change that, we can only accept it. I know she wouldn't want you crying like this. What's the one thing she would tell you when you would cry? 

Me: Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened

Jayden: Exactly, and don't you ever say she left you. If you need her then you'll find at home, right there in your heart. You keep her there and she will never leave you, same way she won't leave me

Me: Thank you brother, I needed to hear that

Jayden: Well you always were a cry baby

Me: I was not. I'm gonna tell on you

Jayden: See what I mean?

Me: It's not the same, you called me a cry baby

Jayden: Was I lying?

Me: You annoying you know that? 

Jayden: You remind me every day

Me: Well someone has to

Jayden: Anyways how was your flight? 

Me: I slept throughout the whole thing

Jayden: Typical. Where's Ethan? 

Me: He went shopping 

Jayden: Alone? 

Me: Yeah well I was suppose to be sleeping actually 

Jayden: Then get some rest baby sis. You can call me when you get up ok? 

Me: OK, thanks again. Take care and I love you 

Jayden: I love you too

I drop the call then finally take my nap. I wake up a few hours late and it's dark outside. I get up and go to my toiletry bag to get my toothbrush. I head to the bathroom then brush my teeth then rinse my mouth with Luke warm tap water. I start looking for Ethan then find him watching tv.

Me: What are we watching? 

Ethan: Look who's finally up. I'm just watching Hide And Seek

Me: How dare you? And you don't even wake me up

Ethan: Well it just started 

Me: Restart it

Ethan: Me and my big mouth

Me: Where's my pizza

Ethan: I ate it

Me: What?!!! 

Ethan: Just kidding. There's two boxes on the kitchen counter

I head over to the kitchen then grab the two boxes. I walk back to the living room then sit down next to Ethan. I give him one box, then we watch the movie whilst commenting here and there. That's one of the things I like about Ethan. We can both watch a movie then make "talk" to the people in the movie as if they can here is. And if something we predicted happens we still react as if we didn't know that was going to happen. He really is my best friend now. After the movie ends, we dispose the boxes in the bin then head to sleep. 

The next morning morning we unpacked our bags and sorted out the whole apartment. Ethan then decides to take me for a walk, just to greet the Capetown air. I'll assume he has been here before. We walk till it's late evening then decide to head back to the apartment. I cook us a quick Mac and Cheese snack. When I hand Ethan his dish, he looks at it then his face suddenly drops. He gets up and goes to his room. What did I do wrong? Was the smell that unpleasant? I sit down just to give him some space. After five minutes my patience runs out then I head over to his room. I know on his door and go in. He was laying in his bed. I walk over to face him and I realise he had been crying. 

Me: Ethan what's wrong? Why are you crying? Did I do something wrong? 

Ethan: My mom used to make me mac and cheese as a night snack whenever I used to complain about being hungry. Every since the day she died, I never touched Mac and Cheese and now all those memories came back rushing to me. I'm sorry if I seemed rude
