Hackman knew that down that tunnel, there was a dead body.
Hackman told Oliver “Call the Homicide Detective, the ME, and call more CSIs this is about to get ugly.”
“I am going to wait right here; our crime scene just got a lot bigger Oliver. You are going to keep an eye on Billie's house. Nobody enters that house unless it passes through you; anything that happens, I will hold you accountable.”
Oliver called homicides, the Medical Examiner, and more crime scene investigators. Another hour passed by more CSIs arrived at the scene. Oliver sent them towards Hackman and did the same with the ME. Now they were waiting on the other Detective.
“Let's get this thing going, guys. I want this tunnel sealed; let's get this scene ready for the other Detective.”
“Good evening, Detective, I am Emily Stone, the ME.”
“Nice to meet you, Miss Stone; I am Detective Hackman Missing Persons Unit.”
“The call said that there was a homicide.”
“Don't worry; they informed you right. There is something inside that tunnel.”
“Okay, it's a little bit weird to see a missing person Detective at a murder scene. "
“I know it is a long story.”
“Fair enough, I better get to work; the body is waiting.”
“Don’t worry Miss Stone whatever is in there is not going anywhere.”
Not too long after the ME walked into the tunnel, a white corvette parked in front of the house. A light, brown-skinned woman got out of the car. She looked like the type of woman who doesn’t take Sugar, Honey, Ice, or Tea from anyone. She had a long white dress with no sleeves; the dress was open on one of her legs. She had a holster with a .50 silver dessert eagle in that leg, and right beside it, she had her badge. She looked nothing like a cop except for the gun and the badge. She then walked to an Agent that was standing by the door of the house.
“Good evening, Homicide Detective. Can you take me to the body?” she showed him her badge.
“Yes, I am Agent Oliver; if you go down near the tunnel, you will find Detective Hackman from the missing person unit, he is in charge,” Oliver said while he pointed in the direction of the tunnel.
“Thank you.”
As she walked toward the tunnel, she saw a well-dressed man looking at the tunnel.
He must be the Detective Hackman that Oliver mentioned. Not the typical old man, at least not from behind, she thought.
“Good evening, are you Detective Hackman?”
“To whom I owe the pleasure?”
“I am Detective White.” She said while shaking his hand.
“Really?” he asked, looking at her from head to toe.
“What?” she asked in a serious tone.
“Nothing, it's just that you are dressed in white, and I find it kind of funny,” Hackman said with an amused expression.
“Here we go; it's not like I haven’t heard that before,” White said, almost letting a half smile escape.
“What is the situation? I saw agents and CSIs on that house, and you are not a Homicide Detective, so who got kidnapped.”
“A kid named Billie called saying that he saw something terrible. The operator told Agent Oliver that they had been talking for almost twenty minutes, and he was taken while he was on the call. She also told the Agent that Billie said his babysitter was gone when he got back. They got here busted in the house; however, it was empty. They went upstairs and saw three rooms, two with the doors open and one with the door closed. As they moved closer, they noticed that the door was forced. They went into the room, but it was empty, except for a bed, a desk, a tv, a laptop, and a ball with tiny dots of blood. Then they had an accident; Oliver’s partner had an asthma attack. He is in the hospital right now in a critical state. Then I got here, started a perimeter, and went into the house. The parents never showed up, so I started looking around, but it was like they were ghosts. I found a laptop with the name Miss Walker, and I dusted the whole thing, but it was spotless. Turn it on, checked the history search, and nothing, I went to check a couple of the files, and surprise, surprise, the thing was encrypted. A file named Allan Walker and wife caught my attention, but I could not open it, so I closed the laptop and bagged it. As I was about to check the closet for anything helpful, Oliver came saying something about a gift, and that's when he took me down here. On the way out, I gave the laptop to one of the CSIs, and I told him that I wanted to know everything on that laptop.”
“Have you seen the body yet?”
“No, I kept my distance and called for more personnel and the ME. I was making sure nobody, but the ME and the Homicide Detective was getting inside that tunnel.”
“Thanks for filling me in, Detective Hackman.”
“No problem, I am going to go back to the house. I still need to find Billie.”
“It looks like we will be seeing each other for a while.”
“Looking forward to it,” Hackman said while he turned around and said goodbye putting two fingers up.
She smiles and shakes her head while turning around and walking into the Tunnel.
There was a light coming from the center of the tunnel, but it seemed far away. It must be the ME working on the body, she thought. As she kept walking toward the light, the sound of water drops hitting the ground intensified. It seemed like the tunnel was never going to end, and the light was getting farther and farther away. The air in the tunnel was heavy, as if death was moving in the air; she was getting goosebumps, and her hands were sweating. She could barely see where she was going.
The light flashed her twice, which meant the person holding the light could see her and hear her footsteps.
“Alice?”
“Who are you, and how do you know me?” White asked, surprised.
“Come closer; you are not going to believe what I got here. I hope you haven’t eaten anything.” the mysterious voice told her.
“I still don't know you.”
“I am Emily Stone; we went to college together.”
“Yes! now I remember you; I didn’t know that you became an ME.”
“I have been doing this for three years.”
She took a few more steps toward Emily when Emily turned her light and showed White something that would have given Freddy Krueger nightmares.
