Chapter Thirteen Judge Mather “Because of the lightness of her harlotry; she polluted the land. A spirit of harlotry has led them astray.” Judge Mather could afford good legal representation, but it was hardly necessary. When he took the stand to testify on his own behalf, his rabid insanity was so clearly on display that no court could have denied the motion to have him committed to a hospital for the criminally disturbed. Ironically, he ended up in the same institution that had been the cruel snake pit many of his victims had been consigned to.
