In
the morning, Elina, true to her word, is at the door. Fortunately, morning
doesn’t mean seven o’clock to her. It’s past nine, and I had time to think
about what I was going to say to her. I’m already on my second cup of coffee.
“What’s
going on between you and Nick?”
She
doesn’t waste one minute. As soon as she settles in front of me, she starts the
interrogation, and knowing her, I have reasons to be afraid of her.
“I
told you a thousand times nothing’s happening. Why do you insist on seeing a
problem between us?”
“Please,
Lexi. You’ve known each other for how long? Twelve years? I’ve never seen you
argue.”
“We’re
not arguing, so I don’t see what’s bothering you.”
“The
tension between you is palpable, and I’m
