Answering Ava's call while stretching, his voice groggy and irritated. "Why this early, Ava? Do you know what the time is?"
Ignoring his tone, Ava launches into her monologue, "Remember that night, Xander? The night we spent together? It was amazing. I thought we had something special. I know we never gave it a name, but we were an item, right?"
"Hey, young lady, that was just a onetime fling and nothing more," Xander snarls, his voice firm. "I'm now your boss at the office, don't forget that. You need to understand that and move on."
Ava feels her heart sink at his words, but she refuses to give up. "But Xander, that night was beautiful, and we both enjoyed it. Why are you acting like it meant nothing to you?"
"Okay, that's enough for this morning already." Xander cuts in. "We are not having this conversation."
Ava feels a lump form in her throat. "But I love you, Xander. I can't just forget about you like that."
He hangs up before she could say another word, leaving her alone in her room, fussing down her morning with tears streaming down her face. She had always known that Xander being her boss, wasn't really going to be easy, but she had hoped that their connection went beyond just a physical attraction after the night they met. Now, she realizes she had been deluding herself all along.
"He can't do this to me." She pulls out from the covers.

Two years and a few months back
Xander walked into a bar to unwind as he had a long day at work and it was already Friday weekend. As he sat at the bar, slowly sipping his whiskey, he noticed a gorgeous blonde woman walking towards him. She took a seat a few stools away and ordered the same drink as him.
As he drank, he couldn't help but steal glances at the lady, admiring her long blonde hair and striking features. Before he knew it, the woman was sitting right next to him, looking him directly in the eyes.
"Hi handsome, I'm Ava," she said with a flirtatious smile. "Mind if I sit here?"
Xander was taken aback by her boldness, but couldn't help but be drawn in by her beauty. "Sure. After all, you're already on it." He giggled and rolled his eyes, trying to show that he didn't care.
"I wonder what a handsome man like you will be doing at an exquisite bar of this caliber, all by himself on a Friday night, when he's supposed to be having fun with his woman."
He paused from his drink and hesitatingly turns. "And who says I need one?" He rolled his eyes back to his drink. He knew that she just was trying to pry into his personal life, but still paid attention, seeing how beautiful she was.
"Nice sense of humor." She mutters coquettishly. "Bar man, more of this." As the night progressed, they had a few rounds of drinks separately like it was a contest. After a while, Xander takes a glance at the bar, scouting for boyfriend looks from any of the guys to avoid troubles. He lets out a sigh of relief and brazenly asked, "Do you-" but was cut off by her.
"Yes," from the woman who was staring at him with her beautiful black eyes.
"Wait, what do you mean?" he asked.
She took his glass of whisky and elegantly drank the whiskey then kissed him lightly, acompanied with a whisper. "Yes, I'll spend the night with you."
He was shocked; he was not going to ask her for that. He was trying to ask if she had no lover like him and probably ask for her contact number because he wanted to keep in touch. But with the opportunity to have her is Infront of him now. It would be a shame to let it go.
They quickly left the bar and headed to a nearby hotel room. As they stumbled through the door, they were all over each other, kissing and undressing in a frenzy of passion. It was a massive room decorated with luxurious pieces of furniture.
The night was a blur of pleasure and excitement, and as they lay in bed together breathing heavily, they fell fast asleep.
However, the next morning, he woke up with a hangover, her hands wrapped all over his broad chest. He turned his attention to the lady next to him.
A stranger with perfect curves and features. Her long, dark hair was splayed out on the pillow, and her delicate features were softened in sleep. He watched her for a moment, admiring the curve of her neck and the rise and fall of her chest. No doubt, she's beautiful. Perhaps that was the reason for the fling. But unfortunately, Xander was not interested in her beauty rather, it was just a one-night stand, a meaningless encounter.
As he sat up, he gently removed her hands from his body. But standing up didn't look funny because he woke up with a throbbing headache. "Ugh... My head hurts..." He groaned on a low key as he placed his hand on his forehead.
He picked up his clothes scattered on the floor and dressed up while she was still asleep, and grabbed his phone and wallet from the bedside table.
He placed the neatly folded clothes of Ava on the side table and $400 notes underneath her clothes. Immediately, he walked out of the hotel room.

Ava woke up late and saw that the messy room from last night was now squeaky clean. It was quiet and lonely that one will think that she had spent her night alone.
As she rubbed her eyes and stretched out on the bed, feeling fuddled, she remembered the events of the previous night. She replayed the memories in her mind, trying to piece together what had happened. It had been a wild night of drinking, and then ending up in bed with a stranger.
