She don't know why she called

Waking up this morning, Susan feels so good and she can't tell why. She relives the moment of yesterday when she chatted and spoke with her boss, Mr Xander. She looks. It's almost seven o'clock in the morning and she notices her clock seems to have a problem. Because the alarm surely did not sound. She is awake because she is now used to the time frame of waking up in the morning. In a bit of a hurry to meet work early before her boss, she takes thirty minutes to take her bath, arrange the house and not been able to eat breakfast, she just grabs a small size fruit juice from the fridge and out she is off to the office.

While seated in the car, she opens her phone to be time conscious and then she sees the missed calls from Ava, last night. She didn't call back last night, as it was pretty much late to call someone by that time. She immediately dials her number and after two calls, she didn't pick. Susan resolves at seeing her when she gets to work now.

"Finally, I'm here." Susan exhales as she steps out of the cab, walking towards the entrance gate. As usual, she smiles at the gatekeeper. She is happy as she notices she made it early to the office. It's a standard. She is not willing to compromise or less in a tight situation.

With a smile on her face, she heads towards her office as she holds her door to open up; she hears Ava's voice coming from her office. She must be answering someone's call, she thinks. Susan enters her office first to have her fruit juice before heading out to see Ava.

Immediately, she enters her office, drops all she came with. She sits down to have breakfast and just then, a knock on the door comes twice. She isn't sure of who it could be, so at the third knock, she says out loud, "Who is there? Come in." Drops the drink on the desk and stands up to see who it is that is looking for her this early.

The door opens and Ava walks in with an unbelievable smile from no where. Susan smiles back and walks out of her desk to meet with Ava. "Good morning, Ava. How are you doing this morning? Am really sorry I missed your calls." She holds Ava's hand.

"Susan, hey, so why didn't you pick up my call last night?" Ava looks at Susan with an unsettling expression on her face.

Susan overheard Ava's argument with Mr Xander yesterday and she is yet to understand what's going on with the both of them, looking at the expression on Ava's face too, she had to be careful with what she will say next to avoid been caught up between her issue with the boss.

Smiling so genuinely, she lies to her, saying. "Hey Ava, sorry about that. I was out with some friends and didn't have my phone on me." As she moves, a bit backwards from her.

Ava chuckles and exclaims as she stares at Susan in amazement. "Oh, no worries. I was just wondering. By the way, we have been friends for quite a long time and I have never heard you say, went outings with friends. And I know very well you make little friends."

Shaking on her question, she steps up and answers without stammering. "My best friend, John, went out, so I accompanied him to the place. You are right, I hardly make friends. You have studied me well, I guess." She mutters further to avoid suspicion.

"Alright love." Ava walks close to Susan's desk, sees the drink and then asks in curiosity. "Who bought the fruit juice you are drinking here?"

"I can see you like what Mr Xander likes now." She turns around, looking at Susan to answer her questions.

"My best friend picked it up from the grocery store. Why do you ask? Besides, I never knew that was Mr Xander's favourite. All I have seen him drink is the coffee, specially made for him."

"That's okay, you must've gotten that close to him to know what drinks he likes."

"I tried the same brand last week and loved it! From his favourite store where he gets it. I was thinking of picking up another bottle. I forgot the name but I now remember so I will get it for him." Ava shows off in front of Susan how much she knows Mr Xander. Susan now feels that Ava didn't come here just to see her but for something else.

To change the whole topic, diverting to Mr Xander, she says to Ava, "Yeah, it's called, "Fresh Squeeze". I think they have a couple of different flavors too at home. On your way home too, you can drop by to get some or have it delivered to you at home." She walks back to her desk and takes a sit.

Ava smiles at her as she says. "Awesome. Thanks for letting me know. So, what did you and your friends do yesterday?"

Drawing her seat close to her desk, Susan answers. "We just went out to grab some dinner and catch up. It was nice to see everyone again, especially after everything that's been going on lately like work, work and work."

Ava response to her. "Yeah, I know what you mean. It's been tough for everyone. But it's good to hear that you had a good time."

Susan realizes that she still doesn't know why Ava called so late so she looks up to her and asks. "Hey Ava, why did you even call me last night?"

"Oh hey Susan, I need something from you. That's why I called you so late. Yeah, I was trying to get to you because I needed some advice on something."

Wow, Susan exclaims to herself as she questions her apologizing. "Sorry I missed your calls. What did you need advice on?"

"It's just a work thing. I have a big presentation coming up and I wanted to get your opinion on it. As you are our boss's personal adviser, you might make a recommendation that will please him."

"Hmmm Sure, I'd be happy to help as a worker for this company to progress, not because I am Mr Xander personal adviser. When's your presentation?"

Ava responds to her "It's on Friday, so I don't have a lot of time to prepare."

"Okay, well, let's schedule some time to go over it together. I can look at your slides and give you some feedback."

In happiness, Ava says as she walks towards the door to head back to her office, "That would be great. Thank you so much, Susan. I appreciate your support."

"Anytime. Let's get this presentation done." As she finished and Ava turns to pull the door, the door opens and Mr Xander walks in.
