The truth hurts

1007 Words
As Susan pours the last of the red wine into her glass. She feels a sense of nervousness and excitement wash over her. " Cheers to life and more." Susan utters loudly, clapping both cups. While they went on drinking, Xander can't help but notice the way Susan's face lit up with pleasure. She closes her eyes and takes a sip, savoring the taste. Xander watchs as she let out a contented sigh, and he knows that she was as impressed as he is. " Mmmm, this taste good." She mutters so intentional "Exactly! That feeling over there,You read my mind, I must say." "So if you weren't working at the EMPIRE, what would you be doing?" Xander asks whilst his eyes turned to his phone. "Hmmm, what I will be doing?" She ponders for a while glancing at the ceiling fans "I will be working else where, or probably still be looking for a job to raise capitals as time goes on for other stable income. Yes that's what I will be doing." He nods his head with a smile. "Independent woman, I see." "Yeah... That should be the goal right?" Her head hung downwards with akward smiles and body movements. "Offcourse... But your kind and mind of determination is rare." "Thanks sir." "You're welcome." As they continued drinking, the night takes a turn for the worse. Susan, a light drinker, becomes increasingly tipsy and loose-lipped. Both laughing and clinking glasses at their funny or not jokes enjoying the moment. Their hands rubbed pass each others as they chat. Susan begins to feel more and more tipsy. Without thinking, she blurts out, "Mr CEO or let me say Mr Xander... One of the most handsome men in this part of our world." Chuckles as she talks. "But you know, I really don't like how stern and bossy you are at the office. It's so annoying." "Really?" He froze for a second as he didn't see that coming. "Yeah...You're really something, you are arrogant, hard to approach, it takes killing the butterflies inside ones tummy to approach you to discuss anything." Xander's looks at her sharply, surprised at so much nerves she summoned. He can't believe what he just heard. He smirks, "Do you realize that I'm still here? You could get a query for this or even a suspension." "Yes yes that's who you are I said so. Hahahaha, she laughs as she stands up and falls back to the ground. Xander, however, was not so affected by the alcohol as Susan was. Noticing that Susan is a light drinker, Xander takes her glass of wine from her. "Hey, that's enough, you've done well. Just stay here alright !." Xander says to Susan. He tries to brush off her comments, but can't, rather, he feels uncomfortable and embarrassed by the situation. After all, alcohol helps people to say most things that they can't say on clear eyes, he thought as he lifts her up to the chairs. Xander raises an eyebrow in surprise, but then chuckles. "I had no idea that I come off that way. I just want to make sure everything runs smoothly at work." Susan nods, but then her words begins to slur. "I know, I know... Everything will be better with a better version of Mr Xander." As the night went on, Susan's behavior becomes more and more erratic. She stumbles around the apartment, slurring her words and making a scene. Xander, feeling more and more uncomfortable, decides it was time for him to leave. As he picks up his suite and made his way to the door, Susan calls out to him, sounding coquettishly, "please don't go! It's going to be lonly over here?" pleading for him to stay. But Xander knowing, it's best for him to go and put this night behind them both. He strolls out and slams the door behind him. Just when he opened his car, his thoughts went to her voice sounding in his ears, "Arrogant and stern." At this moment, he thinks of how he was going to leave Susan all drunk and unkept all by herself. Doing that will be a confirmation that he is really what they all concluded he is. He turns back, "Ugh!" His jaws groans, he clenches his palms, standing in same spot for a couple of minutes, glaring at the apartment walls. Seeing that standing there wasn't going to be of use, he heads back towards Susan's door, with a mix of emotions and anger. As soon as he opens the door, his jaw drops as he finds her lying all wasted on the tiled floor. His expression softens, knowing that he has no other option than to make sure she is okay, since he is already back. He grabs her waist, lifting her up to his shoulders, trying to locate her room, and when he did, he drops her on the bed, covering her with a blanket. "Please don't go" She says slowly and calmly, with her eyes blinking so dull like that of a dying bulb, her hands locked to his. She holds back unto him so firmly that he falls back to the bed and their lips smacking for a while then she tucks his muscles against her skin. His fingers stroking her hair. Just then, she whispers in his ears, "We love you." "No way!" He comes back to his senses and pulls out immediately, feeling so uncomfortable, hearing susan, mention those four letter words "L–O–V–E" to his ears. "Ugh, sh**t." He murmurs, rubbing his forehead aggressively. "What have I done." "What! Why did you stop?! Come back!" Susan calls out to xander, sobbing like a child. "Nevermind, I must take my leave ." Xander steps out of the room, paying deaf ears to whatever she was saying. "Really? Xander!" He pat his head, disappointed at the outcome of visiting his staff but as he drives home, her words continues to ring in his ears. "We love you ."
