She heard nothing

Ava's hands tremble at seeing Susan stand there at the door. How did she even come in without the sound from the door? How long has she been standing there? Did she hear all I was saying now? These go through Ava's mind as she stares at Susan, who is standing at her door looking right at her. To be sure, she quickly covers up by saying.

"Alright ma'am. I understand. I will call you back later. Do have a great day." She speaks so formally to deceive Susan of what she must have heard.

Susan observes, she is done with her calling, so she walks fast to her desk. She keeps a frowning face. She wishes to explain to Ava that what she saw in the morning was an accident and it's totally a misunderstanding. Ava stares at her with curiosity filled in her eyes. Both stares at each other for a while. Who will go first? They both wonder.

"Ava.."

"Susan…". Both mutters the same time.

"Okay… You go first." Susan stretches her hands to Ava.

Ava scoffs, putting out a plastic smile. "No! You go first."

"If you say so. Ava, am sorry I ran out without noticing you earlier on. What ever you saw was a misunderstanding and definitely an accident. What happened was that I went to get the file that the boss requested, the one I faxed that was a fraud. He wants to look at it to study and understanding against the upcoming proposal that he will be signing." She twitches her eyes to Ava as she finish explain to attract her response.

Ava goes quiet as she assimilates what Susan has said and then she draws her conclusion that she didn't overhear her conversation with Mrs Tina over the phone. She drops her phone under her desk and brings up her hand, holding and patting Susan's hand and then she says to her. "It's okay. I understand. I heard a scream, so I ran over to see what the issue was. Moreover, am glad that he was there at that time if not only God knows what we would be discussing right now."

"Right?–"

"Yeah, girl. Hope you did not get injured? And you are okay." She looks at her, turning Susan's petite waist sideways to see if there were any bruises.

"Am great and fine. And you, how are you doing? I didn't interrupt your call, right? I was bored at the office and it's lunchtime. I don't have anyone to go eat with. I always go with you. That is why I came so we can eat launch. Please don't refuse. You have been in your office since morning."

Susan plays smart as she stands up and pulls Ava out of her chair. She picks up Ava's phone and off; they went to the cafeteria. While they eat, Susan starts up a conversation with Ava to understand why she was looking at her like that whenever she sees her and the boss together. She doesn't intend to put it out to her face, but she has in mind to get it out of her mouth without going straight to the point with her.

"Urg.. ugh." she coughs, hitting her chest for relief. Ava brings forth a glass of water and urges her to take.

In a concerned manner, Ava stretches her hands to offer her the water. "Here you go baby girl, take some water and take it easy with the eating. If you want more, you will have it but slow down girl… So it doesn't choke you off, please." She shakes her head and continues to eat.

Susan, given an opportunity to talk, takes it. "Thanks babes, I just love the food and I will take it easy from now on. Hahahaha." She laughs after speaking.

"Do you know of anyone who is close to the boss, before and how did it ended up? Susan interrupts. "Sorry am asking you firstly. You are someone close to the boss as his secretary and, second, you are practically the only person in the office I can talk to like this."

"If you don't mind, I would love to know, please." Susan insists, keeping a baby face. She blinks her eyes twice, trying to hoodwink Ava into spilling the response.

Looking at Susan, Ava thinks deeply. This can be a rare way of poisoning Susan's mind for her to stay away or, better still, avoid Mr Xander. Giving her an opportunity to come in as someone who constantly remains by his side in the good and bad moments when people come and go. She smiles at Susan as she thinks it's her chance. Not realising that it's a trap set by Susan to understand how she thinks, seeing her and the boss. Seeing her smile, Susan is sure to get her answer.

"Hmmmmm." Ava exhales, tapping her chin slowly as she answers the questions. "Yes, my dear. There was this lady who got involved with the boss, though they haven't been in contact for a while." She pauses and stares at Susan.

Susan opines, her gaze fixed directly at Ava, sounding nervous. "What? what happened? Am waiting and all ears. Why did you stop?"

Immediately, Ava frowns her face in disappointment."I just remembered, what am telling you is because I want to advice you as my friend but this story should just be between me and you as it's our bosses secret. I know it because I am his secretary, ok?" Ava warns her.

"Ahhhhh." she reacts, "you know am not a gossiping person and I like my privacy as a person. In addition, I avoid problems." She assures Ava.

"That's Okay. I trust you." Ava continues. "Now, the thing here is, the lady is currently back and doing everything possible to get back with the boss as she always calls for an appointment, but the boss always turns her down. She even asked me if I know what the boss has been up to lately and I say no."

"I see you're close to the boss of recent and am worried. But I don't know how to approach you and spill nonsense. You might misunderstand me." Ava says, feeling so happy in her heart as she sees the face of Susan change.

" Am..m… m..m, am happy you said it now. I can be careful and say no when necessary. My life is the most important to me. Thanks so much love, you have done a lot for me. With what you have said, she must have done a lot to get to the boss and will, by all measures, have him back, right?" She asks Ava.

"Yes, I guess so." Ava says in agreement.

"But I think the boss will be a bad kisser." Susan mutters.

Just then, Ava alters unknown to her, even without thinking. "No… that's not true. He kisses great." Just then she realises herself and sees Susan staring at her.
